NBA Fast Break Run 6 | Day 8

Pick 5 Players who will combine for 45 Rebounds to earn your win.

Recap & Overview:

Happy New Year’s Eve or Happy New Year’s Day (depending on where you are in the world) to you! As we reflect on 2024, it has been a positive year for NBA Top Shot. Far from perfect, but I am cautiously optimistic about the future of digital collectibles and Top Shot’s role and position going forward - Fast Break hopefully being a guidepost of success for other ventures. One day in the not so distant future, we will see Disney Pinnacle offering in-park activations for digital pins, commemorative moments from in-person events, digital concert stubs, etc. Until then, we can continue to participate and enjoy Fast Break and the continued tweaks to find the “right” formula.

As expected, Day 7 had a lower success rate than the past few days where less than 50% of lineups landed in the green. If you had CJ McCollum in your lineup (who made 8 of 14 three pointers), you’re likely happy with your result. If you didn’t sub out Klay Thompson who was a late scratch, you’re likely cursing the injury overlords. In terms of top five players used in lineups yesterday, Coby White is your Fast Break Dud of the Day as he shot 1 for 11 from outside. On the other hand, Donovan Mitchell was used in 68% of lineups and shot 5 for 11 from the three point line. Steph Curry was 3 of 11 in an 18-point loss to Cleveland and gave you the minimum required for yesterday’s objective.

With Day 8 ahead of us, there are now 22 perfect records (down from 26) remaining. If you have at least six (6) wins, you’re on track to place in the top-500 for the overall results. There are still six (6) days remaining in this run, so anything can happen. Usually the tail end of a run is where we notice people fall off the pace due to limited lineup options or poor results. With the +/- and assists minus turnovers objectives ahead of us, I anticipate the disparity between the top 500 will widen. Bookmark this site and check in daily for some additional insight to ensure you stay on course. With that said, let’s dig into today’s projections and stats.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 8 requires five (5) players who will gather 45.0 or more rebounds, which means your lineup will need to average 9.0 REB per player. Single objectives are straightforward, but not necessarily easy. You’ll want some players who can get you 10+ rebounds to buffer for any potential underperformers. With Nurkic suspended, Mason Plumlee will be an interesting option as he’s had 9.0 rebounds the past two games - especially if you’re limited on your lineup options.

  • Board Crashers:

    • Tier 1: Ivica Zubac, Isaiah Hartenstein, Anthony Davis, Giannis Antetokounmpo

  • Top Five (5) Players in FB Lineups: J. Allen (77%), I. Hartenstein (71%), I. Zubac (61%), J. Poeltl (49%), R. Gobert (33%)

Looking Ahead:

  • Tomorrow, 125 points scored is the single objective and there are 16 teams in action

  • Objectives (after today): +/-, OREB, AST-TO, PTS, BLK, FGM, PIP, STL

Considerations:

  • Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Phoenix, and Portland have the least number of games remaining (2)

  • Boston, the Lakers, and Oklahoma City have the most games remaining (4)

  • Cleveland & the Clippers are playing the tail end of a back-to-back

  • Each day, there are at least 10 teams in action

  • Both +/- and AST-TO make an appearance in Run 6 (Day 10 & 13)

  • Day 10 & Day 13 are looking to be the most challenging of this run

  • 8 of 13 days have two objectives; 5 have a single objective

  • Dallas’s last game of this run is on Day 11

Statistical Approach:

Top players in projected rebounds according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 games, and rest of season projections, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Tome Collective’s Fast Break Run 6 Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

Make that five in a row! Thanks to CJ McCollum, I survived Klay’s late scratch also. With Santi Aldama’s injury, I subbed in Mason Plumlee today since Nurkic is serving his 2nd of 3 game suspension. Going for win #6 for the second Grail Seeker pack.
