NBA Fast Break Run 5 | Day 12

Pick 5 Players who will combine for 35 Points in the Paint and 10 Three Pointers Made to earn your win.

Overview:

We’ve reached the end of Fast Break Run 5 and we are down to eight (8) perfect records going into the final day. If you follow us on social, you have until the start of today’s games to guess the total number of perfect records and the average position of the winner to earn some moments. If you haven’t commented your guess, your time is running out as the first game tips off at 6:00PM ET | 10:00PM UTC.

Yesterday’s results mirrored the previous day as only 44% of participants came away winners. Karl-Anthony Towns was used in 45% of lineups and delivered only 11 points. For that performance, he earned the not-so-coveted Fast Break Dud of the Day Award. On the other hand, Jayson Tatum and Kevin Durant were used in 55% and 44% of lineups respectively (the latter of which ballooned when Giannis was ruled out) and delivered 43 points apiece, earning the Fast Break co-Studs of the Day. If you had both of these players in your lineup, you likely earned a win (even if you included KAT).

Fast Break Run 6 is currently live, which will span 13 days (instead of 12) and will continue to feature the “perfect” pack for winning each day. Unlike the previous few runs, Run 6 will not come with game tickets, airfare, and accommodations. Instead, the top reward is $5,000 in Top Shot Credit, which isn’t too shabby. In addition, the daily rewards have been bumped up to include the top 250 (it was 50 not too long ago), but will come with Top Shot Credit instead of a pack. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves though, let’s finish strong and earn a win whether you need it to earn the next pack or for the sake of momentum.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 12 requires five (5) players who will score 35.0 or more points in the paint and make 10.0 three pointers, which means your lineup will need to average 7.0 PIP and 2.0 3PM per player. You can’t be in two places at once, so someone scoring points in the paint cannot also make a three pointer which means these two stats are not correlated. There are players who have the capability of doing both, but not on the same possession, so there’s no double dipping today. Thankfully, the points in the paint threshold isn’t high, so 18 total field goals within the painted area gets you above the line. With the state of the league, reaching 10 three pointers should not be the objective that determines your win for the day, but that’s assuming you have enough firepower outside the arc to make up for any greater focus you place on the interior scoring.

  • Little of Both: Nikola Jokic, CJ McCollum, Trey Murphy

  • Colors outside the Lines: Tyrese Haliburton, Trey Murphy, Malik Monk, Dillon Brooks

  • Paints inside the Lines: Nikola Jokic, Alperen Sengun, De'Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, RJ Barrett, Pascal Siakam, CJ McCollum, Scottie Barnes, Jamal Murray

  • Top Five (5) Players in FB Lineups: C. McCollum (55%), P. Siakam (53%), R. Barrett (52%), M. Porter (48%), T. Haliburton (47%)

Looking Ahead to Run 6:

  • Day 1 requires 15 three pointers and 130 points scored

  • Objectives:

    • 2x: 3PM, REB, PTS, FGM, BLK, STL, PIP

    • 1x: FGA, AST, 3PA, +/-, OREB, AST-TO

Considerations for Run 6:

  • Every team has between 6-8 games scheduled

  • There are no games scheduled on December 24th

  • Each day, there are at least 10 teams in action

  • Both +/- and AST-TO make an appearance in Run 6

  • 8 of 13 days have two objectives; 5 have a single objective

Statistical Approach:

Top players in projected points in the paint & three pointers made according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 games, and rest of season projections, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Tome Collective’s Fast Break Run 5 Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

Don’t love the four-day losing streak, which means we are down to our last chance at win #6. With KAT having a terrible scoring day and Kyrie getting hurt, we fell short even though Brunson & Norman had 30+ point games. Let’s end this one with a win and use that momentum into Run 6.
