NBA Fast Break Run 5 | Day 4

Pick 5 Players who will combine for 125 Points Scored to earn your win.

Overview:

It was a bit of deja vu as Day 3 looked very similar to Day 1 where over 90% of Fast Break participants walked away with a win thanks in large part to Sabonis who corralled 20 rebounds (50% of yesterday’s objective) and was used in 85% of lineups. He was also the first player this season to score 30 while grabbing 20 rebounds. For that feat, he is our Fast Break Stud of the Day. Honorable mention goes to Bam who contributed 16 rebounds for the 87% of lineups who used him. With two top tier performances, it’d be easy to overlook the putrid rebounding performance that Jakob Poeltl had yesterday. He was utilized in 81% of lineups and could only muster a disappointing 4 rebounds, which earns him the Fast Break Dud of the Day. Whether you started Jakob or failed to remove Jalen Duren from your lineup, you likely walked away with a win if you had Sabonis and/or Bam in your lineup, so you dodged one.

Today’s objective is straightforward, but also challenging unless you have one player who contributes well above the minimum threshold to cover the difference for players who do not reach the 25 point mark. Anything below 20 points and you’ll likely be sweating until the final buzzer of the final game of the players in your lineup.

As the four teams have landed in Las Vegas and are preparing for the Emirates NBA Cup semifinals, scroll to the end of this article after you complete today’s preparations for preview of Day 5 including projections.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 4 requires five (5) players who will score 125 or more points, which means your lineup will need to average 25.0 PTS per player. Single objective days are straightforward. There are multiple players who are averaging well over the minimum threshold for the day, but they don’t do so every day. Even great players like Luka have off days (Day 2). With that said, it should not come as a surprise that only Joker is projected to exceed 25.0 points AND has done so over his last 10 games. Every other top-end scorer is either above the threshold in projections or last 10, but not both.

  • Autofill - Season Average: Joker, AD, ANT, KD, & Book

  • Projections: Joker, AD, ANT, Brandon Miller, & Book

  • Last 10: Joker, Book, Brandon Miller, Embiid, & Wemby

  • 50/50 projections/last 10: Joker, Book, ANT, AD, Brandon Miller (save Wemby)

Regardless of your approach on the day, there will be some frequently used players based on the limited top-end scorers available even though there are sixteen teams in action today.

  • Bucket Getters: Nikola Jokic, Devin Booker, Anthony Edwards, Victor Wembanyama, Anthony Davis, Brandon Miller, Joel Embiid, Norman Powell

  • Top Five (5) Players in FB Lineups: A. Edwards (84%), D. Booker (80%), N. Jokic (77%), T. Maxey (56%), A. Davis (54%)

Objective(s):

  • Tomorrow, 5 offensive rebounds and 35 points in the paint will be the two (2) objectives and there are only 4 teams in NBA Cup action

  • Remaining objectives after today:

    • 2x: PIP, 3PM

    • 1x: OREB, BLK, FTM, STL, FGA, FGM, AST, REB, PTS

Considerations:

  • Day 5 matchups are set and the results will determine the two teams playing on Day 8 in Las Vegas

  • Day 8 will only have two (2) teams in action, which we won’t know until Day 5

  • Day 5 will only have four (4) teams in action

  • Day 10 & 12 will only have six (6) teams in action

  • The four teams who lost in the NBA Cup quarterfinals (Dallas, Golden State, Orlando, & New York) have two (2) games remaining

  • Plan your lineups around Day 12 as it requires the most divergent stats of this run - points in the paint & three pointers made

  • There are no games scheduled for December 18th

  • December 19th is a big day for returns from injury including (tentatively) Paolo Banchero, Zion Williamson, & others

Statistical Approach:

Top players in projected points scored according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 games, and rest of season projections, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Tome Collective’s Fast Break Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

Day 3 resulted in a win as was the case for many others. No complaints here considering Sabonis & Bam took care of business on a rebound day. I would be a happy camper if the same were true on Day 4. While you’re here, be quick - here’s the one hidden moment in today’s article.
