NBA Fast Break Run 4 | Day 6

Pick 5 Players who will combine for 30 +/- to earn your win.

Overview:

The wrinkle of the day comes in the form of a site maintenance that prevented participants from modifying lineups a couple hours before the full slate of NBA Cup games. This also kept participants in the dark on their progress - at least until the email notification was distributed around 1:00am ET. Did you receive the “Congrats On Your Win!” or the “So Close! Just Missed this Time!” notification? The latter of which comes with an extra bit of dread whenever you receive it.

Of the top five players who were utilized the most heavily yesterday, Brook Lopez contributed 1 steal and 3 blocks which was enough to earn him the Fast Break Stud of the Day. Honorable mention goes to Joker (5 steals, 1 block), Mason Plumlee (1 steal, 4 blocks), Mo Bamba (3 steals, 2 blocks), & Luka Doncic (4 steals, 1 block). Of the top five players used (Lopez, Jackson, Turner, J. Williams, E. Mobley), everyone contributed at least two (2) total stats, so they escaped the Dud of the Day moniker. Day 5 still proved to be a challenging one as only 52% of participants walked away with a win, which also brought down the number of perfect records to 210 (36% drop).

After yesterday’s result, the Emirates NBA Cup single elimination knockout round is set. Oklahoma City plays Dallas, Houston plays Golden State, Milwaukee plays Orlando, and New York plays Atlanta. Absent are the current top two teams in the East - Cleveland & Boston. The quarterfinals will take place on December 10th & 11th, followed by the semifinals on December 14th, and NBA Cup Finals on December 17th in Las Vegas (which will be attended by the Fast Break Run 3 winner).

With six (6) days remaining in this run (which takes us to the day before the NBA Cup knockout round), we are at the midpoint of this run. So long as you have at least three (3) wins, you still have a chance at the top reward. If not, the mid tier is your goal. Either keep the momentum going or turn it around today.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 6 requires five (5) players who accumulate 30 or more +/-, which means your lineup will need to average 6.0 +/- per player. One common strategy people have historically employed is the use of players from the same team who you believe will outscore the opposition. Unsurprisingly, Boston and Orlando players have the highest Last 10 and Season average for +/- and that’s reflected in the top five players utilized in lineups today. Keep in mind Orlando (25th best offense; #1 defense) plays Philadelphia (105.4 points per game; 111.7 points against per game) and Boston (3rd best offense; 7th best defense) plays Detroit (109.7 points per game; 112.4 points against per game).

  • Group Project Contributors: Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Wendell Carter, Franz Wagner, Goga Bitadze

  • Top Five (5) Players in Lineups: W. Carter (55%), D. White (54%), J. Holiday (48%), F. Wagner (41%), J. Brown (36%)

Upcoming Objective(s):

  • Tomorrow, 35 assists & 40 rebounds will be the two (2) objectives and there are 16 teams in action

  • Remaining objectives after today:

    • 2x: REB, AST

    • 1x: OREB, PTS, 3PM, FGM, BLK

Considerations:

  • Detroit, Indiana, LA Clippers, Milwaukee, Orlando, & Philadelphia are playing the tail end of a back-to-back today

  • Day 8 will be one of the most challenging days this run as it requires OREB & 3PM

  • Day 11 has only two (2) teams in action

  • Seven (7) teams have two (2) games remaining over the next six (6) days (refer to the Fast Break Grid)

  • The remaining 23 teams have three (3) games remaining

Statistical Approach:

Top players in projected Plus/Minus according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 games, and rest of season projections, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Rewards:

  • Daily Reward: Top 100 each day will receive a Fast Break Rookie Debut pack

  • Milestone Reward: Reach 3, 6, or 9 wins and each tier earns you a pack

    • 3 wins: One (1) Grail Seeker pack

    • 6 wins: Three (3) Grail Seeker packs

    • 9 wins: Fast Break pack

    • 11 wins: Perfect Fast Break pack

  • Run Reward: Place in the top 500 overall

    • Rank 1: Two (2) tickets to the NBA game in Paris, France including airfare and hotel

    • Rank 2-500: Spendable credit at varying values

Additional Resources:

Tome Collective’s Fast Break Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as Tome Society participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

Jalen Williams saved our Day 5 as he contributed 3 steals. That brings us to three wins which means we’re halfway to our six (6) win goal. Achieving nine wins is unlikely considering it would require us to win the remaining six days of this run, but it will remain a stretch goal unless we lose one more day. Until then, we will have both a realistic goal and a stretch goal for the rest of run 4.
