NBA Fast Break Run 4 | Day 2

Pick 5 Players who will combine for 30 Rebounds and 35 Points in the Paint to earn your win.

Overview:

If today foreshadows what we should anticipate for Run 4, we are all in for a bumpy ride. As over 60% of lineups used SGA and/or Fox, it came down to the final quarter and the final five minutes of their respective games before we started to see the number of winners begin to rise. At one point in the 4th quarter, there were under 300 total winners, which ballooned to 2,878 as SGA and Fox scored a few more points. Since SGA scored one more point than Jayson Tatum, he earns the Fast Break Stud of the Day as he delivered 36 points, which made up for an abundance of dud performances.

With LaMelo out of the lineup, Brandon Miller was poised (and projected) to have a big day and put up 25 shots against the Knicks…but he only hit 28% of them and ended with 20 points. This mirrored Fox and Ant’s performance on the day also, so there were plenty of underwhelming performances across the league yesterday. But the Fast Break Dud of the Day Award goes to Donovan Mitchell who contributed only 12 points on the day where his Cavaliers lost to the Atlanta Hawks…again. That’s 2 of 3 total losses on the season the Trae Young & company. Since Mitchell was included in 46% of lineups, he was likely the the most responsible for the high number of losses on Day 1 which also knocks over 3,000 participants out of the “perfect” pack running.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 2 requires five (5) players who gather 30 or more Rebounds and score 35 or more Points in the Paint, which means your lineup will need to average 6.0 REB & 7.0 PIP per player. Considering these two stats are correlated, you should not have any issues identifying a lineup who can easily achieve today’s goal. Although it’s not a guaranteed surefire win, it will be one of the easier days this run.

Let’s jump into today’s objectives and the best players for each and overall.

  • Little of Both: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jalen Johnson, John Collins, Walker Kessler

  • Board Crashers: Walker Kessler, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jusuf Nurkic, Jalen Duren, P.J. Washington, John Collins, Jalen Johnson, Clint Capela, Jonas Valanciunas

  • Bucket Getters in the Paint: Walker Kessler, Daniel Gafford, Damian Lillard

  • Top Five (5) Players in Lineups: C. Capela (62%), J. Johnson (54%), G. Antetokounmpo (53%), K. Durant (44%), W. Kessler (38%)

Upcoming Objective(s):

  • Tomorrow, 15 three pointers & 25 assists will be the two (2) objectives and there will be a robust twenty (20) teams in action

  • Remaining objectives after today:

    • 3x: AST

    • 2x: 3PM, BLK, FGM, REB

    • 1x: FGA, STL, +/-, OREB, PTS

Considerations:

  • Atlanta, Charlotte, & Detroit are playing the tail end of a back-to-back today

  • Day 4 has only eight (8) teams in action

  • Day 6 has the extra elusive Plus/Minus objective

  • Day 8 will be one of the most challenging days this run as it requires OREB & 3PM

  • Day 11 has only two (2) teams in action

  • There are eight (8) teams with four (4) games remaining (refer to the Fast Break Grid)

  • All other teams have five (5) games remaining

Statistical Approach:

Top players in projected Rebounds & Points in the Paint according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 games, and rest of season projections, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Rewards:

  • Daily Reward: Top 100 each day will receive a Fast Break Rookie Debut pack

  • Milestone Reward: Reach 3, 6, or 9 wins and each tier earns you a pack

    • 3 wins: One (1) Grail Seeker pack

    • 6 wins: Three (3) Grail Seeker packs

    • 9 wins: Fast Break pack

    • 11 wins: Perfect Fast Break pack

  • Run Reward: Place in the top 500 overall

    • Rank 1: Two (2) tickets to the NBA game in Paris, France including airfare and hotel

    • Rank 2-500: Spendable credit at varying values

Additional Resources:

Tome Collective’s Fast Break Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as Tome Society participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

New run, same Day 1 result…a fat L. In Run 3, we started slow and lost two straight before rattling off ten straight wins. Let’s hope for a similar trajectory (aside for the Day 2 loss). Based on the objectives, I’m feeling good about Day 2.
