Overtime Overload: Thunder and Warriors Survive Wild Shootouts

NBA Recap: October 23, 2025

The reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander put on a masterclass in Indiana, torching the Pacers for a career-high 55 points in a double-overtime win, 141–135. That gives SGA 90 points through his first two games—the fifth-most to start a season in NBA history. Rookie Ajay Mitchell added a clutch 26, helping OKC outlast the team they beat in last year’s Finals. Meanwhile, Steph Curry turned back the clock with 42 points to lead the Warriors past the Nuggets 137–131 in overtime, despite Aaron Gordon’s 50-point eruption.

Two games, two overtimes, and two MVP-level detonations. The Thunder are 2–0, both wins coming in extra time, and SGA looks every bit the alpha of the West. Golden State’s win over Denver was a shootout, with Curry and Gordon trading haymakers in a game that felt like May in October. If this is the pace we’re setting for the season, buckle up—the league’s best are already in top form.

NBA Fast Break Results: Day 3

86% of the 3,400+ Fast Break participants earned a win on Day 3, which marks the third consecutive day where over 60% of collectors walked away with their heads held high. That also means the majority are perfect through three days of this run, with ten more to go. As there are no win-based rewards, the wins will determine where people land overall.

Draymond Green did not have a steal yesterday, but he accumulated 12 of the needed 20 assists, which covered 60% of the first objective. In aggregate, that was the highest tally by any of the top five players, so he is your Fast Break Stud of the Day. On the other hand, Jonathan Kuminga had a paltry 3 assists with no steals which hamstrung the 38% of lineups where he was utilized. Based on his performance, he is your Fast Break Dud of the Day.

Today’s Fast Break Objective(s): Day 4 of 13

Objective(s): 125 Points Scored (25.0 PTS)

You’ll need five (5) players who will accumulate 125.0 or more points scored, which means each player will need to average 25.0 PTS. Although there have been a lot of players who are scoring at a high clip, one player could effectively derail your day. If your goal is to win the day, you’ll need to pick the five highest scoring or risk falling out of the top 100. If your goal is the run-based reward (since win-based isn’t available this run), you’ll simply need a W and outlast everyone else to stay within the top 200.

Top Player Options:

  • Point Scorers: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker, Cade Cunningham

  • Top Five (5) Players in Pro Lineups: G. Antetokounmpo (58%) | A. Edwards (45%) | L. Doncic (45%) | J. Brunson (36%) | D. Booker (35%)

Upcoming Fast Break Objectives:

  • Objectives remaining (after today):

    • 2x: 3PM, 3PA, REB, OREB, BLK, PITP, STL

    • 1x: FGM, FGA, AST-TO, AST

  • Tomorrow Objective(s):

Considerations:

  • Orlando has the most games remaining (7)

  • Denver & Houston have the least games remaining (4)

  • Day 4 (today), 7, & 9 all have 20 or more teams in action, so they’ll have the most flexibility

  • Day 10 has only eight teams in action, so that’ll be the least flexible day remaining

  • The always challenging AST-TO objective will be on Day 10 (Oct 30)

  • The Emirates NBA Cup tips on in early November

Statistical Approach:

Top players in points scored according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 (when available), and season averages, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ members, all active player stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Witty’s Fast Break Challenge:

In NBA Fast Break, how often you can use a player depends on the value of their moments—measured by average sale price. That system can put newer and/or smaller collectors at a disadvantage, limiting their ability to compete. This segment is designed to level the playing field, giving resourceful collectors a shot at rewards and proving that smart strategy can still win, even without a stacked collection.
