WNBA Fast Break Classic | 2025 Playoffs | Day 12

Today’s Objective(s): 15 Assists & 3 Steals

Overview:

Phoenix started strong in Game 1 and looked poised to steal one from the Aces on their home court. Although the Aces trailed heading into the 4th quarter, they were able to lean on their Finals experience to snipe a win from the Mercury. Generally speaking, it was a tightly contested matchup throughout, which is likely a theme we’ll see throughout this series. Should Las Vegas defend home court again, Phoenix is unlikely to waver and will be more than capable of evening the series on their home court.

It’s an early tip off, so be sure to set your lineup if you have the players to do so and/or today gives you the best opportunity to secure another win.

WNBA Recap: October 3rd

Bench Mob Delivers as Aces Steal Game 1 from Mercury (LVA 89, PHO 86)

Las Vegas escaped with an 89–86 win over Phoenix in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, thanks to a monster bench performance and a clutch fourth quarter. Dana Evans led the way with 21 points and five threes, while Jewell Loyd added 18 off the bench, marking just the fifth time in Finals history two reserves scored 15+ in the same game. The Aces trailed most of the night—Phoenix led by nine early and by four entering the fourth—but A’ja Wilson (21 pts, 10 reb, 5 ast, 0 TO) and Jackie Young (10 pts) helped flip the script late. Chelsea Gray dished 10 assists, and the Aces became just the second team ever to win a Finals game with two of their top three scorers coming off the bench.

Phoenix got a scorching start from Kahleah Copper (21 pts, 5 threes, 19 in the first half), while Alyssa Thomas nearly posted a triple-double (15 pts, 10 reb, 9 ast). Down one with 24.6 seconds left, Thomas missed two free throws—the first time in WNBA playoff history a player missed two potential tying FTs in the final two minutes, per Elias Sports Bureau. The Mercury had one last chance to tie, but Satou Sabally’s deep three missed with two seconds left. Phoenix looks to replicate what went well and improve where things did not — otherwise they’ll be in a tough spot down 2-0.

With her performance, she earned the Fast Break Star of the Day. WNBA Finals: Best of Seven Series

Phoenix Mercury @ Las Vegas Aces | 3:00PM ET | 7:00PM UTC (Aces Lead 1-0)

The Las Vegas Aces are back on home court tonight for Game 2, looking to build on their series lead. A’ja Wilson is locked in—she’s averaging 25 and 15 against Phoenix this year—and she’s got help: Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray have been steady and surgical. But the Mercury aren’t backing down. Alyssa Thomas is a walking triple-double, Satou Sabally is hitting threes, and their defense has been the stingiest of the playoffs. Vegas leads the league in scoring and efficiency, but Phoenix thrives in chaos. If Wilson gets rolling early, the Aces could take control. If not, buckle up.
