WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 10 | Day 7
Today’s Objective(s): 20 Assists & 5 Three Pointers Made
Overview:
Day 6 was the second day this run where less than 50% of participants earned a win. As there were only two teams in action, the player options were quite slim. There were eight (8) players in double digits, none of them scored more than 18 points, and only six scored above the 12.0 average needed to earn a win. Unfortunately only 34% achieved the required milestone and we are down to 19 collectors who remain perfect.
With three days remaining in the 2025 WNBA Season, yesterday’s game did not have any implications for the two teams fighting for the last playoff spot, but Atlanta’s win keeps them on pace for the second overall seed as they currently sit 0.5 games ahead of a red-hot Las Vegas team. Regardless of whether they finish second or third, they’ll likely face either Golden State or Indiana. Should they escape the first round, the Aces will likely be the team they face in the second round.
WNBA Score(s): September 8th
Dream Dominate Sun with Defensive Precision and Paopao’s Playmaking (Atlanta 87, Connecticut 62)
Atlanta closed out their regular season home slate with a commanding double digit win over the Connecticut Sun at Gateway Center Arena, extending their win streak to six and locking in a 29–14 record. The Dream’s defense was suffocating, holding the Sun to just 19 points in the entire second half and forcing a third-quarter collapse where Connecticut managed only nine points. Rhyne Howard led all scorers with 18 points in only 31 minutes as bench players were given more playing time than usual. Despite Aneesah Morrow’s double-double and late push for the Sun—scoring three consecutive layups in the fourth—Connecticut couldn’t recover from Atlanta’s third-quarter surge. The Dream’s balanced scoring and lockdown defense sent a clear message heading into the postseason: they’re peaking at the right time but are still in a fight with the Aces for the second seed.
Recap: Day 6
Rhyne Howard continues to thrive whenever she’s playing and yesterday was no different. She was utilized in 51% of lineups and delivered the most points on the day as she scored 18. With her performance, she was the Fast Break Star of the Day.
Brionna Jones, on the other hand, was the most utilized player as she appeared in 75% of lineups, but had the lowest points output of the top five as she went 4 for 12 from the field. With her performance, she was the Fast Break Dud of the Day.
Today’s Matchups:
Washington Mystics (16-27) @ New York Liberty (25-17) | 7:00PM ET | 11:00PM UTC
At Barclays Center, the New York Liberty host the Washington Mystics with an 83.3% win probability. Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones continue to lead a Liberty squad that will start their title defense on the road as they’ll likely be the 5th seed, while Washington enters on a nine-game skid, struggling to generate consistent offense. With playoff momentum on the line and the Mystics short on depth, New York is projected to cruise to a comfortable win.
Minnesota Lynx (33-9) @ Indiana Fever (23-20) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC
At Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Indiana Fever face the league-leading Minnesota Lynx, who hold a 68.5% win probability. Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell will need to be near-perfect to challenge Minnesota’s elite defense, anchored by Kayla McBride and Courtney Williams. With the Lynx having secured the No. 1 overall seed and Indiana fighting for the 6th seed, Minnesota’s depth and efficiency still give them the projected edge.
Chicago Sky (10-32) @ Las Vegas Aces (28-14) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00PM UTC
At T-Mobile Arena, the Las Vegas Aces host the Chicago Sky in the night’s most lopsided contest, with a 91% win probability. A’ja Wilson continues her MVP-caliber campaign, supported by Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young. Chicago, missing Angel Reese and struggling to contain elite offenses, will rely on Kamilla Cardoso and Rachel Banham to stay afloat. With Vegas riding a 14-game win streak, the Aces are projected to dominate and move back into a tie with Atlanta for the second seed.
Los Angeles Sparks (20-22) @ Phoenix Mercury (27-15) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00PM UTC
At PHX Arena, the Phoenix Mercury host the Los Angeles Sparks in a matchup favoring the home team with a 68.5% win probability. Kahleah Copper and Alyssa Thomas continue to drive Phoenix’s offense, while L.A. leans on Dearica Hamby and Rickea Jackson to stay in the playoff mix. With Phoenix looking to rebound from a rare loss and the Sparks needing to win to keep their season alive, the Mercury are projected to control the pace and have a high probability of eliminating the Sparks tonight.
Golden State Valkyries (23-19) @ Seattle Storm (22-21) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00PM UTC
At Climate Pledge Arena, the Seattle Storm host the Golden State Valkyries with a 71% win probability. Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins headline Seattle’s playoff push, while Golden State counters with Temi Fagbenle and Veronica Burton. Seattle controls their own destiny as a win earns them the last playoff spot. Should they lose their final game of this season, it opens the door for the Sparks to steal the 8th seed. If, however, Los Angeles losing either of their final two games, they’re eliminated. Golden State has the greater momentum at this point in the season and look to be the favorites as Seattle is 9-12 at home this season.
