WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 10 | Day 5
Today’s Objective(s): 25 Rebounds & 10 Free Throws Made
Overview:
We are back on track as Day 4 saw 69% of participants earn a win. Even with the high win rate, we saw a few people fall off the pace as we are now down to 90 Fast Breakers who are perfect on the run with five days to go (including today). So long as you have one win to your name, you still have a chance to reach the mid-tier reward.
Now onto the implications of yesterday’s games on the playoff race.. With Phoenix’s shocking loss to Connecticut, they fell off the pace for the second seed, but remain ahead of New York for the 4th seed. In the other game, Golden State lost of Minnesota but remain ahead of Indiana and Seattle for the 6th seed. Should Los Angeles lose to Dallas today, they will officially be eliminated which would officially push both Indiana and Seattle into the playoffs. Even if LA wins, Indiana can secure their spot in the playoffs with a win against the Mystics.
WNBA Score(s): September 6th
Sun Edge Mercury in Back-and-Forth Thriller (Connecticut 87, Phoenix 84)
Connecticut held off Phoenix at Mohegan Sun Arena in a game that saw 14 lead changes and came down to final possessions. The Sun overcame an 81.2% win probability favoring the Mercury, leaning on late-game execution and defensive stops to seal the win. While full box score details remain limited, the Sun’s ability to withstand Phoenix’s pressure and close strong in the fourth quarter was a testament to their resilience. The win bumps Connecticut to 11–31, while Phoenix—already playoff-bound—drops to 27–16. With postseason positioning still in flux, this result adds weight to Connecticut’s late-season push and hints at their potential spoiler role.
Lynx Surge Past Valkyries Behind Hiedeman’s Career Night (Minnesota 87, Golden State 84)
Minnesota closed out their regular season road slate with a close win over Golden State at Chase Center, powered by Natisha Hiedeman’s career-high 24 points. The Lynx flipped a five-point halftime deficit with a 16–0 third-quarter run, sparked by a flagrant foul on Hiedeman’s three-point attempt that led to a four-point possession and a momentum-shifting putback by Jessica Shepard. Shepard, stepping in for the rested Alanna Smith, posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Napheesa Collier added 20 points and a clutch baseline jumper in the final minute, while Kayla McBride iced the game with free throws after a late Valkyries turnover. Golden State, despite a sold-out crowd and balanced scoring from Janelle Salaun, Iliana Rupert, and Kaila Charles (15 points each), couldn’t recover from the third-quarter collapse. The Lynx, now 33–9, head into the playoffs as the top seed and odds-on favorite to win the title.
Recap: Day 4
Three of the top five players had a strong outing yesterday and contributed both points and field goals made. Satou Sabally was leaned upon by 71% of Fast Breakers, but she only shot 4 of 9 and only scored 11 points scored. With her less than stellar performance, she earned the Fast Break Dud of the Day.
On the other end of the spectrum, Tina Charles delivered 22 points and made 8 field goals to help Connecticut earn a win yesterday. She was the third most utilized player and played a major role in the high win rate yesterday.
Today’s Matchups:
Indiana Fever (22-20) @ Washington Mystics (16-26) | 3:00PM ET | 7:00PM UTC
At CFG Bank Arena, the Indiana Fever visit the Washington Mystics in a nationally televised matchup. Indiana enters as the favorite with a 70% win probability, riding a three-win-in-four stretch behind Aliyah Boston’s interior dominance and Kelsey Mitchell’s perimeter scoring. Washington, on a five-game skid, will lean on Shakira Austin and Sonia Citron to keep pace, but injuries and recent form suggest Indiana will control the tempo and complete the season sweep.
Dallas Wings (9-33) @ Los Angeles Sparks (19-22) | 6:00PM ET | 10:00PM UTC
Later at Crypto.com Arena, the Los Angeles Sparks host the Dallas Wings in their fourth meeting of the season. L.A. holds a 79.3% win probability and has won all three previous matchups, including a one-point thriller on August 21. The Sparks are led by Dearica Hamby and Rickea Jackson, while Dallas counters with rookie standout Paige Bueckers. With the Wings missing key contributors like Arike Ogunbowale, L.A.’s depth and offensive efficiency make them the projected winner.
Chicago Sky (10-31) @ Las Vegas Aces (27-14) | 9:00PM ET | 1:00AM UTC
Closing out the night at T-Mobile Arena, the Las Vegas Aces host the Chicago Sky in a lopsided contest with a 91.1% win probability. A’ja Wilson continues her MVP-caliber campaign, supported by Chelsea Gray’s playmaking and Jackie Young’s perimeter threat. Chicago, will rely on Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese to stay competitive. With Vegas surging and the Sky struggling to contain elite offenses, the Aces are projected to dominate and tighten their grip on a top-four seed.

WNBA Key Dates:
September 11: Regular Season Ends
September 14-October 17: WNBA Playoffs
Power Rankings (Week 14):
There is a little over a week remaining in the WNBA regular season and things are getting down to the wire and there are two clear battles happening — the first is seeding and the fight for the first round home court advantage and the other is securing a spot in the postseason. Minnesota is the only team that clearly knows their seeding for the playoffs whereas four teams are jockeying for the top three seeds.
There are also four teams pushing to land the three playoff spots with Los Angeles currently on the outside looking in. How they fare in their final five games will determine whether they’ll sneak into the postseason after such a terrible start to the season.
Playoffs Secured: Minnesota, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Phoenix, & New York have punched their ticket to the postseason
Home Court Jockeying: Atlanta, Las Vegas, Phoenix, & New York continue battling for the three (3) home court advantage opportunities
Middle Mayhem: Seattle, Golden State, Indiana, & Los Angeles are fighting for the three (3) remaining playoff spots with Los Angeles currently on the outside looking in
There’s Always Next Season: Washington, Dallas, Connecticut, & Chicago have officially been eliminated
