WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 10 | Day 4
Today’s Objective(s): 60 Points Scored & 20 Field Goals Made
Overview:
Fast Break day three was the first in this series where less than 50% earned a win. More specifically, only 16% (276 collectors) earned a win. There are also less than 100 collectors who remain perfect this run with six days to go in this series. Even if you have no wins, there is still a chance at earning the mid-tier reward, but there is little to no room for error from here on out for most.
With Los Angeles’s loss, they find themselves in a very tough spot and cannot spare another loss from here on out if they want to steal a spot from Indiana or Seattle. Indiana simply needs to beat either Washington or Minnesota to punch their ticket or let Los Angeles eliminate themselves. Seattle, on the other hand, would need to win their last game against Golden State to guarantee a spot in the postseason, but they can also lean on LA for help, also. Simply put, Los Angeles loses one more game (Dallas, Phoenix, and Las Vegas) and they’re officially eliminated.
WNBA Score(s): September 5th
Howard’s Historic Night Powers Dream Past Sparks (Atlanta 104, Los Angeles 85)
Rhyne Howard lit up College Park with a record-tying performance, dropping 37 points and matching the WNBA single-game mark with nine made threes in Atlanta’s 104–85 win over the Los Angeles Sparks. Howard’s shooting barrage—13-of-26 from the field and 9-of-17 from deep—was the centerpiece of a Dream offense that tied the league record with 19 threes in a regular-season game. Maya Caldwell added 19 points, including five triples, while Brionna Jones chipped in 12. Despite Dearica Hamby’s efficient 26-point outing on 11-of-15 shooting, the Sparks couldn’t withstand Atlanta’s third-quarter surge, where the Dream reeled off a 13–0 run to break the game open. The win clinched home-court advantage for Atlanta in the first round and underscored Howard’s place among the league’s elite shooters. With two games remaining, they are still in the hunt for the second seed.
Fever Exploit Sky’s Turnovers in Blowout Win (Indiana 97, Chicago 77)
Indiana dismantled Chicago by twenty points at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, fueled by a relentless defensive effort that forced 23 Sky turnovers. The Fever converted those miscues into 25 points, setting the tone early with a 31-point first quarter and never looking back. Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell orchestrated a balanced attack, while Aerial Powers and Makayla Timpson delivered key buckets in the second half. Indiana shot a blistering 61.8% from the field and went a perfect 11-of-11 from the line, showcasing their offensive efficiency. Chicago, meanwhile, struggled to find rhythm, shooting just 12.5% from three and committing unforced errors that stalled any comeback attempt. The win keeps Indiana firmly in the playoff hunt, while Chicago’s abysmal record reflects a season marred by inconsistency and missed opportunities.
Liberty Rally Past Storm in Road Thriller (New York 84, Seattle 76)
New York clawed back from a halftime deficit to defeat Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena, snapping the Storm’s two-game win streak and tightening the playoff race. Breanna Stewart was electric in the fourth, scoring 13 of her 24 points and hitting a clutch three to seal the win. Leonie Fiebich added 21 points, and Kennedy Burke’s perimeter shooting helped the Liberty outscore Seattle 25–16 in the final frame. The Storm, led by Nneka Ogwumike’s 20 points and Skylar Diggins’ playmaking, couldn’t match New York’s late-game execution. The Liberty now sit at 25–17, while Seattle drops to 22–21, with postseason implications hanging in the balance.
Recap: Day 3
Of the top five (5) players utilized yesterday, Breanna Stewart delivered the most combined objectives as she contributed five blocks and more than covered that category, but she had no steals on the day which proved to be the differentiator between a win or a loss. With her performance, she earned the Fast Break Star of the Day award.
Gabby Williams was the only player who had more than one steal as she accumulated two, so it was a struggle to say the least. Ezi Magbegor was the third most utilized player and she delivered three blocks, but she had no steals. Ariel Atkins and Jordin Canada had a steal apiece and no blocks, so they are your Fast Break co-Duds of the Day.
Today’s Matchups:
Phoenix Mercury (27-14) @ Connecticut Sun (10-31) | 1:00PM ET | 5:00PM UTC
At Mohegan Sun Arena, the red-hot Phoenix Mercury face the Connecticut Sun in a matchup that leans heavily toward the visitors with an 81.8% win probability. Phoenix enters riding a five-game win streak, powered by Kahleah Copper’s scoring and Alyssa Thomas’s versatility. Connecticut, despite Tina Charles’s steady production, has dropped four of its last five and continues to struggle with offensive efficiency. With Phoenix surging and the Sun fading, the Mercury are projected to control the pace and secure another road win.
Minnesota Lynx (32-9) @ Golden State Valkyries (23-18) | 8:30PM ET | 12:30AM UTC
Later tonight at Chase Center, the Minnesota Lynx take on the Golden State Valkyries in a Western Conference clash between two playoff teams. Minnesota is favored with a 72.3% win probability, boasting the league’s top scoring offense and a 49% shooting clip over their last ten games. Golden State, winners of five straight, will look to Veronica Burton and Janelle Salaun to keep pace, though injuries to Kayla Thornton and Tiffany Hayes limit their depth. With Minnesota winning both previous meetings and Collier back in rhythm, the Lynx are projected to outlast the Valkyries in a high-tempo battle.

WNBA Key Dates:
September 11: Regular Season Ends
September 14-October 17: WNBA Playoffs
Power Rankings (Week 14):
There is a little over a week remaining in the WNBA regular season and things are getting down to the wire and there are two clear battles happening — the first is seeding and the fight for the first round home court advantage and the other is securing a spot in the postseason. Minnesota is the only team that clearly knows their seeding for the playoffs whereas four teams are jockeying for the top three seeds.
There are also four teams pushing to land the three playoff spots with Los Angeles currently on the outside looking in. How they fare in their final five games will determine whether they’ll sneak into the postseason after such a terrible start to the season.
Playoffs Secured: Minnesota, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Phoenix, & New York have punched their ticket to the postseason
Home Court Jockeying: Atlanta, Las Vegas, Phoenix, & New York continue battling for the three (3) home court advantage opportunities
Middle Mayhem: Seattle, Golden State, Indiana, & Los Angeles are fighting for the three (3) remaining playoff spots with Los Angeles currently on the outside looking in
There’s Always Next Season: Washington, Dallas, Connecticut, & Chicago have officially been eliminated
