WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 8 | Day 7

Today’s Objective(s): 7 Three Pointers Made & 15 Three Point Attempts

Overview:

Six days down and four to go. With yesterday’s result, we are down to 62 collectors with perfection so far (down from 79). As such, they are the first to cross the line for the mid-tier reward. For everyone else, having at least three wins means you still have a chance to cross the threshold for the best prize available.

Also keep in mind there are about 2,000 total participants in WNBA Fast Break, so being in the top 10ish percent overall means you can earn a run-based reward. That means you still have a chance to earn more rewards, but you’ll need to set the best lineups possible based on your collection. With four days to go, look ahead to ensure you don’t have any surprises lurking. Also, Napheesa Collier is set to return either today or in their next game, so she’ll be a must-start if you’re limited on player options.

Note that historical Fast Break is another opportunity to earn rewards, so be sure to set those lineups too. Note that the window between games has shrunk considerably, so don’t inadvertently forget to set it. Don’t know who to start? Be sure to check today’s article for Day 2 of the historic Fast Break run.

WNBA Score(s): August 20th

Sparks Survive Bueckers’ Scorching 44 in Last-Second Win (LAS 81, DAL 80)

In a game that felt like a playoff preview, the Los Angeles Sparks edged the Dallas Wings 81–80 thanks to Kelsey Plum’s clutch floater at the buzzer. Plum finished with 20 points, but her final shot—banked in over a high screen from Dearica Hamby—was the dagger that sealed the win and sent Crypto.com Arena into a frenzy.

Rickea Jackson was electric from deep, hitting a career-high six triples en route to 25 points. Hamby anchored the paint with 13 points and 9 rebounds, while Cameron Brink added 11 and 8 boards. But the night belonged to Dallas rookie Paige Bueckers, who erupted for a career-high 44 points on 17-of-21 shooting, tying Cynthia Cooper’s record for most points by a first-year player in a WNBA game. Bueckers scored the Wings’ final 13 points, including a technical free throw that briefly gave Dallas the lead with just over a minute remaining.

The Sparks’ win not only kept their postseason hopes alive but also eliminated both Dallas and Chicago from playoff contention. For Los Angeles, it was a statement victory—one that balanced star power, poise, and timely execution in the face of a historic individual performance.

Recap: Day 6

Day 6 had only two teams in action, but the game was an exciting one as Paige Bueckers scored 44 points. Kelsey Plum, however, stole the show as she hit a game-winner to steal the win. Yesterday’s objectives weren’t based on scoring or game winners; instead it needed assists & steals. The latter turned out to be smooth sailing for most lineups whereas the assists were the make or break. Unfortunately, only 45% made the cut and the majority fell short.

Julie Allemand was utilized in a whopping 90% of lineups and she was also the highest performer as she contributed 8 assists & 2 steals, which accounted for over half of the needed assists & 67% of the required steals. With her performance, she earned the Fast Break Star of the Day.

Of the remaining four most utilized players, Kelsey Plum, Myisha Hines-Allen, & Haley Jones all accumulated one assist apiece, which contributed to many lagging lineups. With their collective lacking in the distribution department, they earned the Fast Break Dud of the Day.

Today’s Matchups:

Washington Mystics (16-19) @ Connecticut Sun (7-27) | 7:00PM ET | 11:00PM UTC

Mohegan Sun Arena sets the stage for a tighter contest between the Connecticut Sun (6–26) and Washington Mystics (14–18). Washington holds a slight edge with a 53.6% win probability, thanks to Sonia Citron’s recent scoring surge and Shakira Austin’s defensive presence. Tina Charles continues to lead Connecticut, but the Sun’s offensive inconsistency makes Washington the projected winner in a game that could seal their postseason hopes.

Chicago Sky (8-26) @ New York Liberty (22-13) | 7:00PM ET | 11:00PM UTC

At Barclays Center, the New York Liberty (21–12) host the Chicago Sky (8–24) in a game that tilts heavily toward the home team. With an 88.1% win probability, New York is expected to dominate behind Sabrina Ionescu’s playmaking and Jonquel Jones’ interior control. Chicago, still navigating injuries to key starters, will lean on Kamilla Cardoso and Marina Mabrey to stay competitive. With playoff seeding on the line for New York, expect a fast start and a comfortable finish.

Minnesota Lynx (28-6) @ Atlanta Dream (22-13) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC

In College Park, the Atlanta Dream (21–11) host the Minnesota Lynx (27–5) in a marquee matchup with playoff energy. Minnesota is favored with a 57.5% win probability, even without Napheesa Collier, thanks to Kayla McBride’s perimeter shooting and Alanna Smith’s defensive versatility. Atlanta counters with Allisha Gray and Cheyenne Parker, but Minnesota’s ability to control tempo and limit turnovers gives them the projected edge in a potential playoff preview.

Phoenix Mercury (21-13) @ Las Vegas Aces (22-14) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00AM UTC

Closing out the night in Las Vegas, the Aces (19–14) welcome the Phoenix Mercury (20–13) in a battle of Western contenders. Vegas holds a narrow 53.2% win probability, with A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray expected to lead the charge. Phoenix, riding Kahleah Copper’s scoring streak and Alyssa Thomas’s all-around impact, won their last meeting—but Vegas’s home-court advantage and defensive efficiency suggest they’ll even the season series.
