WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 8 | Day 3

Today’s Objective(s): 60 Points Scored

Overview:

With two days behind us, there are eight days ahead. Over the next four days, there will be two days with only two teams in action and two days where ten will be scheduled to play. How you set your lineups could very well determine where you stand by the end of this run, so plan accordingly.

In NBA Top Shot news, historical Fast Break will tip off on August 20th with five teams seeing changes to their lineup as five players were voted in including Rashard Lewis in Orlando (replacing Scott Skiles), Lamar Odom for the Lakers (replacing Kurt Rambis), Jalen Rose in Indiana (replacing Roy Hibbert), Cliff Robinson subbing in for Greg Oden in Portland, and Caron Butler subbing in for Jeff Malone in DC.

Also note that there is an upcoming Run It Back pack drop will take place in about four days and this set will be focused on legacy & phantom threads. As a reminder, you have three days to lock your sets to receive the airdrop.

WNBA Score(s): August 15th

Clark-less Fever Falter as Mystics Steal the Spotlight (WAS 88, IND 84)

Washington stunned Indiana 88–84 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, overcoming the absence of Caitlin Clark, who remained sidelined with a groin injury. Despite the Fever’s strong home record and playoff push, the Mystics executed late-game plays to seal the win, snapping Indiana’s momentum and tightening the race for postseason positioning.

Golden State’s Defensive Masterclass Silences Chicago (GSV 90, CHI 59)

Golden State continued its impressive expansion campaign with a commanding 90–59 win over the Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena. The Valkyries’ defense suffocated Chicago’s offense, and their balanced scoring attack highlighted why they’re one of the most disruptive new teams in league history. The Sky, still reeling from roster instability, couldn’t match Golden State’s pace or precision.

Sparks Survive Bueckers Barrage in Texas Nail-Biter (LAS 97, DAL 96)

Los Angeles eked out a 97–96 victory over Dallas in a nail-biter at College Park Center. Kelsey Plum and Paige Bueckers traded buckets in a high-octane fourth quarter, but the Sparks’ composure in crunch time proved decisive. The Wings, despite Bueckers’ 29-point effort, fell short in a game that showcased elite guard play and playoff-level intensity.

Storm Weather Dream in Vancouver’s Showcase (SEA 80, ATL 78)

Seattle edged Atlanta 80–78 in Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, marking the third-ever WNBA Canada Game. Skylar Diggins led the Storm with 21 points and 11 assists, while Nneka Ogwumike anchored the paint. Atlanta, led by Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard, couldn’t capitalize on late possessions, allowing Seattle to escape with a morale-boosting road win.

Wilson’s Double-Double Powers Aces Past Mercury (LVA 86, PHX 83)

Las Vegas outlasted Phoenix at PHX Arena, riding A’ja Wilson’s 30-point, 16-rebound performance. The Mercury kept it close behind Kahleah Copper and Satou Sabally, but Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young delivered clutch buckets to preserve the Aces’ win streak. The result tightened the standings as both teams jockey for playoff seeding.

Recap: Day 2

Day 2 reversed course compared to Day 1 as 95% of participants earned a win. That means virtually all participants are 6 wins away from the mid-tier pack and a large population are still perfect on the run with eight days to go. Kelsey Mitchell was the most utilized player as she was included in 75% of lineups, and she delivered with a 6 for 19 performance. Low on the field goal percentage, but contributed in both categories. As such, she is your Fast Break Star of the Day.

Of the remaining four players (A’ja Wilson, Nneka Ogwumike, Dearica Hamby, & Alyssa Thomas), none fell below the need 5.0 FGM, so there were no duds yesterday.

Today’s Matchups:

New York Liberty (21-12) vs Minnesota Lynx (27-5) | 2:00PM ET | 6:00PM UTC

Today’s lone WNBA matchup features the New York Liberty visiting the Minnesota Lynx at Target Center in a nationally televised showdown on CBS. Minnesota enters as the clear favorite, having won both previous meetings this season—100–93 on July 30 and 83–71 on August 10—behind dominant defensive performances and balanced scoring from Courtney Williams, Alanna Smith, and Kayla McBride. With Napheesa Collier still sidelined, the Lynx have leaned on their depth and league-best home record (16–1) to stay atop the standings.

New York, still navigating Breanna Stewart’s absence, will rely heavily on Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones to generate offense and keep pace. The Liberty have dropped two straight to Minnesota and will need a sharper start to avoid a season sweep. With playoff seeding tightening and the Lynx riding a five-game win streak, Minnesota is projected to control tempo and extend their dominance in this Finals rematch.

Today’s Objective(s): Day 3

You’ll need five (5) players who will score 60.0 or more points, which means each player will need to average 12.0 PTS. With only one (1) game on today’s schedule, your options are very limited. It’s also the first of two days where only two teams are in action.

If you have not set your preliminary lineups for the remainder of this run, this is a good time to do so considering the next two days will have 5 games scheduled on each day, which gives you the most flexibility. On Day 6, we’ll be back to a single game. Considering today only has two teams also, be sure to set your lineup today so you’re not stuck later in the run.
