WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 8 | Day 1
Today’s Objective(s): 15 Assists & 7 Three Pointers Made
Overview:
New run means a fresh start for all collections. This run is one day less than the previous, so your room for error is much less. There are three days where 10 teams are in action and two days where only two teams are in action. For the most part, you’ll have a lot of flexibility this run, but you’ll want to map out your run around those two pesky days.
Start your run off on the right foot and put your best one forward. Let’s review how yesterday’s games went, preview today’s games, and dive into the projections and stats.
WNBA Score(s):
Wings Upset Fever in One-Point Thriller (DAL 81, IND 80)
In a game that flipped the script on their season series, the Dallas Wings edged out the Indiana Fever 81–80, handing Indiana its first loss to Dallas this year. Paige Bueckers continued her rookie brilliance with clutch scoring and playmaking, while Li Yueru and Haley Jones provided key contributions in the paint. The Fever, led by Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, couldn’t capitalize on late possessions, and Caitlin Clark’s absence loomed large. Despite Indiana’s strong start and home-court advantage, Dallas executed down the stretch, snapping a five-game skid and improving to 9–24. The win also delayed Minnesota’s playoff clinch, which had been contingent on a Fever victory
Liberty Light It Up in LA: Meesseman, Jones Lead the Charge (NYL 105, LAS 97)
The New York Liberty unleashed their highest-scoring performance of the season in a win over the Los Angeles Sparks. Emma Meesseman dropped a season-high 24 points, Jonquel Jones added 21 and 11 boards, and Leonie Fiebich poured in 20 as the Liberty’s offense clicked from all angles. Natasha Cloud’s late-game heroics—three clutch layups in the final minutes—sealed the win and marked Sandy Brondello’s 100th victory as Liberty head coach. Despite 26 points from Kelsey Plum and a gritty 21-point outing from Dearica Hamby, the Sparks couldn’t contain New York’s perimeter barrage, surrendering 14 threes. The Liberty, now 21–11, bounced back from a loss to Minnesota and reaffirmed their status as a top contender in the East
Today’s Matchups:
Chicago Sky (8-23) vs Connecticut Sun (5-26) | 7:00PM ET | 11:00PM UTC
The Connecticut Sun host the Chicago Sky at Mohegan Sun Arena in a battle between two struggling squads. Chicago enters with a slight edge, having snapped a losing streak behind Kamilla Cardoso’s strong interior play. Connecticut continues to lean on Tina Charles, who’s chasing franchise milestones, but the Sun’s lack of scoring depth remains a concern. With both teams outside the playoff picture, Chicago’s rebounding advantage and recent momentum make them the projected winner.
Golden State Valkyries (16-15) vs Washington Mystics (14-17) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC
Golden State visits Washington in a matchup with postseason implications. The Mystics are slight favorites at home, led by a pair of rookies (Sonia Citron & Kiki Iriafen), while the Valkyries counter with Veronica Burton and Temi Fagbenle. Golden State won their last meeting by a single point, but Washington’s stronger shooting efficiency and home-court record suggest they’ll even the season series.
New York Liberty (21-11) vs Las Vegas Aces (18-14) | 9:30PM ET | 1:30AM UTC
The Las Vegas Aces host the New York Liberty in a nationally televised showdown on ESPN. Vegas is favored, looking to avenge two earlier losses to New York. A’ja Wilson is on a tear, averaging 25.5 points and 13.3 rebounds since August 3, while Jackie Young eyes a WNBA record for career wins before age 28. New York, still without Breanna Stewart, will lean on Sabrina Ionescu and newcomer Emma Meesseman. With Vegas surging and Stewart sidelined, the Aces are projected to take this one at home.
Atlanta Dream (20-11) vs Seattle Storm (16-16) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00AM UTC
At Climate Pledge Arena, the Seattle Storm host the Atlanta Dream in a late-night clash. Atlanta is favored slightly, having won two of three previous meetings and riding Allisha Gray’s consistent scoring. Seattle will rely on Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins to slow the Dream’s transition game. With playoff seeding on the line, expect a fast-paced battle—though Atlanta’s cohesion and perimeter shooting give them the projected edge.
