WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 7 | Day 10

Today’s Objective(s): 10 Assists & 3 Steals

Overview:

Today is Day 10 of 11 and the number of perfect records shrank from 96 to 77 even though it was the third straight day where over 50% of Fast Breakers earned a win. 510 have earned the seven win reward and there are two days remaining for others to cross the line. So long as you have five (5) wins, you still have a chance at the mid-tier pack. Today, though, will be the most challenging as there are only two teams in action.

WNBA Score(s):

Lynx Overcome Liberty Despite Collier’s Absence (MIN 83, NYL 71)

In a gritty rematch of the 2024 WNBA Finals, Minnesota outlasted New York at Barclays Center—without their MVP candidate Napheesa Collier, still sidelined with a sprained ankle. The Lynx leaned on a third-quarter eruption, outscoring the Liberty 30–19 behind Kayla McBride’s 18 points and DiJonai Carrington’s 15 — the latter proving to be a trade-deadline steal. Alanna Smith filled the void defensively, posting a stat-stuffing line of 8 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks. New York, again missing Stewie, couldn’t capitalize on early momentum and unraveled with 20 turnovers, many leading to fast-break scores. The Liberty bench sparked early, but Minnesota’s depth—especially from Hiedeman and Carrington—flipped the script in the second half. With this win, the Lynx extended their league-best record to 27–5 and sent a clear message: even without Collier, they’re built to contend.

Mystics Storm Back Behind Iriafen’s Career Night (WAS 91, DAL 78)

Washington flipped the script in Arlington, rallying from a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat Dallas 91–78—without starting center Shakira Austin, who sat out with a leg injury. Rookie Kiki Iriafen delivered a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds, dominating the paint and sparking a second-half surge that buried the Wings. Sonia Citron added 18 points, 17 of which came after halftime, along with 6 assists and 5 boards. Stefanie Dolson stepped up in Austin’s absence with 14 points, while Emily Engstler chipped in 11 off the bench. The Mystics outscored Dallas 61–37 in the second half, turning a 41–30 halftime hole into a statement win. Paige Bueckers led the Wings with 17, but Dallas couldn’t match Washington’s energy or execution down the stretch. For the Mystics, it’s a much-needed win that snaps a four-game skid—and a showcase of their rookie duo’s rising star power.

Dream Sweep Mercury Behind Hillmon’s Double-Double (ATL 74, PHO 66)

Atlanta closed out its season series against Phoenix with a 74–66 win at Footprint Center, riding a balanced attack and a dominant performance from Naz Hillmon, who posted 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists—her third double-double of the season. Allisha Gray added 17 points and 5 assists, fueling the second-half offense with 12 points after the break. The Dream built a 36–19 lead in the second quarter before Phoenix rallied, briefly taking the lead in the third, but Atlanta responded with a late push and never trailed again. Brionna Jones chipped in 15 points and 11 boards, while Jordin Canada scored 13 before exiting with an injury. The win marks Atlanta’s fifth straight and a 3–0 sweep over the Mercury this season.

Sparks Rally Late to Edge Storm in Thriller (LAS 94, SEA 91)

Los Angeles pulled off a dramatic comeback at Crypto.com Arena, defeating Seattle 94–91 in one of the season’s most tightly contested finishes. Dearica Hamby sealed the win with a three-point play with 5.6 seconds left, capping off a 19-point, 7-rebound performance. Kelsey Plum led the Sparks with 20 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds, while Cameron Brink delivered a breakout game off the bench—14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, plus 5 boards and 2 steals. The Storm, led by Brittney Sykes’ 27 points and Dominique Malonga’s 20-point, 11-rebound double-double, built a 26–14 lead in the first quarter but couldn’t hold off L.A.’s second-half surge. Seattle tied the game at 91 with 12.7 seconds left, but Hamby’s clutch finish gave the Sparks their 15th win and a crucial edge in the playoff race.

Aces Ride Wilson’s Historic Night to Beat Sun (LVA 94, CON 86)

Las Vegas leaned on a generational performance from A’ja Wilson—32 points, 20 rebounds, and 5 assists—to take down Connecticut 94–86 at Michelob ULTRA Arena. It marked the first 30-point, 20-rebound game in WNBA history, and Wilson’s 113th career double-double. Jackie Young added 21 points, and the Aces shot 49% from the field, overcoming a hot start from the Sun, who got 22 from Marina Mabrey. It’s Vegas’s fourth straight win—and a reminder that Wilson’s dominance is rewriting the record books.

Recap: Day 9

Day 9 was another successful for the majority as 68% of Fast Breakers earned a win. Of the five most utilized players (T. Charles, A. Ogunbowale, S. Sabally, K. Copper, & S. Diggins), Skylar Diggins led the way as she shot 7 for 18 from the field, which accounted for 28% of the FGM objective & 35% of the FGA objective, she earned the Fast Break Star of the Day.

Of the remaining four, you could make an argument for either Sabally or Tina Charles as your Fast Break Dud of the Day. The former was the 3rd most utilized player in Fast Break lineups (40%), but only shot 3 of 12 — well short of the FGM target, but higher on the FGA objective. The latter was the most utilized player (50%), but only shot 4 of 8 — a smidge short of the FGM objective and below the FGA target. So, they earned co-Duds of the Day.

Today’s Matchups:

Connecticut Sun (5-25) vs Golden State Valkyries (15-15)

Tonight’s lone WNBA matchup features the Connecticut Sun visiting the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center. Golden State enters as the clear favorite, backed by a strong home record and a recent win over Los Angeles, which was significant as the Sparks are also in the playoff hunt.

Connecticut, led by veteran Tina Charles, continues to search for rhythm amid a three-game losing streak. Despite Charles averaging over 16 points per game, the Sun have struggled defensively, allowing nearly 88 points per contest. With Golden State pushing to stay in the playoff mix and Connecticut fading in the standings, the Valkyries are projected to control tempo and secure a key home win.
