WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 7 | Day 2
Today’s Objective(s): 15 Assists
Overview:
Day 1 was a strong start to Run 7 as over 70% of participants earned a win, which looked dicey before the Los Angeles-Seattle game went into double-overtime. Today may be a smidge more challenging as there are only two teams in action, which will happen two more times this run (so plan accordingly).
WNBA Score(s):
Dream Blitz Mercury with Historic Shooting Night (ATL 95, PHO 72)
Atlanta overwhelmed Phoenix with a first-quarter avalanche—34 points on 62% shooting, including a franchise-record eight threes in a single quarter. Allisha Gray erupted for 26 points, hitting 7-of-9 from deep, while Naz Hillmon added 18 points and 9 boards in her first start of the season. The Dream led by 16 at halftime and opened the third with a 9–0 run, stretching the gap to 25 before Phoenix found the net. Kahleah Copper (19 points) and Alyssa Thomas (12 points, 10 rebounds) tried to rally, but the Mercury’s defense couldn’t contain Atlanta’s pace or perimeter firepower. It’s a statement win for the Dream—and a stumble for Phoenix in a tightening playoff race.
Sun Snap Liberty’s Streak with Defensive Masterclass (CON 78, NYL 62)
Connecticut flipped the narrative at Mohegan Sun Arena, holding New York to a season-low 62 points and forcing 21 turnovers in a wire-to-wire win. Marina Mabrey flirted with a triple-double—18 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists—while Leila Lacan and Olivia Nelson-Ododa combined for 32 off the bench. The Sun closed the game on a 9–0 run, locking down the Liberty for the final five minutes. For New York, it’s a fourth straight loss—and a wake-up call against a team that’s finally rediscovering its edge.
Valkyries Rally Late to Top Sky for Third Straight Win (GSV 73, CHI 66)
Golden State surged past Chicago with a clutch fourth-quarter push, turning a two-point deficit into a 73–66 road win. Veronica Burton led the way with 18 points, including a dagger three to end the third and four free throws in the final 35 seconds to ice it. Janelle Salaun (16 points) and Iliana Rupert (14 points, 4 threes) added scoring punch, while the Sky—missing Angel Reese, Ariel Atkins, and Hailey Van Lith—leaned on Kamilla Cardoso’s double-double and Rachel Banham’s 14 points to stay close. The Valkyries opened the fourth on a 12–2 run, and Chicago didn’t score in the final two minutes. For Golden State, it’s a win that underscores their resilience—and keeps their playoff hopes alive.
Fever Outpace Wings Behind Mitchell’s Hot Hand (IND 88, DAL 78)
Indiana extended its win streak to four with a sharp 88–78 road victory over Dallas, powered by Kelsey Mitchell’s 23 points and a pair of double-doubles from Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard. Despite missing Caitlin Clark for the sixth straight game, the Fever controlled the tempo and glass, out-rebounding the Wings by 14 and hitting 12 threes to Dallas’s 2. Paige Bueckers dazzled with 22 points, but the Wings couldn’t find consistent support, especially with Arike Ogunbowale sitting out the fourth quarter. Indiana’s balanced attack and defensive poise sealed the win—and sent a message that their depth runs deeper than star power.
Sparks Edge Storm in Double-OT Classic (LAS 108, SEA 106)
In a game that felt like a playoff preview, Los Angeles outlasted Seattle in double overtime, 108–106, behind Rickea Jackson’s 27 points and a game-winning layup from Dearica Hamby with 4.3 seconds left. The Storm got a vintage performance from Nneka Ogwumike, who dropped 37 points against her former team, but Skylar Diggins’ final shot rimmed out as time expired. The Sparks had four players score 20+, a franchise first, and Cameron Brink made her presence felt with three blocks in limited minutes. It was a night of clutch shot-making, 14 lead changes, and a reminder that L.A.’s playoff push is very real.
Recap: Day 1
With the LA-SEA game going into overtime, the number of winners ballooned from under 40% to over 70% thanks to Dearica Hamby. With her 16 points in the paint & 1 block, she earned the Fast Break Star of the Day. On the other hand, Ezi Magbegor ran into foul trouble throughout their contest and never got into the scoring mix for Seattle, but she delivered five blocks to cover the other objective. Since, however, she was utilized the most and produced the least on points, she earned the Fast Break Dud of the Day.
Today’s Matchups:
Minnesota Lynx (23-5) vs Las Vegas Aces (14-13)
Today’s lone WNBA matchup features a heavyweight clash at Michelob ULTRA Arena as the Minnesota Lynx visit the Las Vegas Aces. Minnesota enters as the clear favorite across major outlets, riding elite efficiency on both ends of the floor and boasting the league’s top defense. Napheesa Collier continues her MVP-level campaign, supported by Kayla McBride’s perimeter shooting and Courtney Williams’ steady playmaking. Las Vegas counters with A’ja Wilson, fresh off a 34-point outing, and Jackie Young, who’s quietly posted strong post-break numbers. While the Aces have shown flashes of their championship pedigree, Minnesota’s cohesion and dominance in prior meetings make them the projected winner in this nationally televised showdown on ABC.

WNBA Fast Break Grid
It's essential to consider the opponents, recent performance, and any injury updates before finalizing your Fast Break lineup. Additionally, staying up to date on the latest news and adjusting your roster accordingly will enhance your chances of earning a win today.
WNBA Key Dates:
September 11: Regular Season Ends
September 14-October 17: WNBA Playoffs
Power Rankings (Week 9):
There are 44 games in a WNBA Season, so teams have anywhere between 17-20 games remaining. This means there are plenty of opportunities to make a run and rise in the rankings. Over the past week, the Sparks have gone 3-0 and 7-3 in their last 10 as they are making a push for one of the coveted playoff spots. Between 4th & 10th, there are only 4 games separating the bunch so every game will matter, but especially the head-to-heads. Chicago, Dallas, & Connecticut are the most likely to not make the cut, but they could have a stretch similar to what we’re seeing in L.A. They’re running out of time though.
