WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 6 | Day 4
Today’s Objective(s): 50 Points Scored & 3 Steals
Overview:
Three days in and we’re looking at the majority who are 3-0 on the series. The likelihood of perfection for the majority are slim, but this is a positive start to reaching the 7-win threshold. Should there be a high number of Fast Breakers who reach the mid and/or top tier, anticipate the difficulty to be turned up a notch for Run 7. Until then, put your best foot forward while balancing your lineups for the remainder of this run. If you have not mapped out the rest of your lineups, today is a good day to de-prioritize compared to the objectives ahead.
WNBA Score(s):
Sparks Torch Sun in Offensive Showcase (LAS 101, CON 86)
L.A. came out firing and never cooled off. The Sparks dropped 101 points on Connecticut, riding a balanced attack and transition tempo to a road win that felt like a reset. Kelsey Plum and Dearica Hamby led the charge, while the Sun couldn’t contain the Sparks’ perimeter movement or interior finishing. Connecticut showed flashes but couldn’t string together stops. For L.A., it’s their 4th win in a row and hints at a second-half surge with playoff hopes.
Fever Clamp Down, Hand Aces Another Loss (IND 80, LVA 70)
Indiana leaned into grit and found a way to win. The Fever held Las Vegas to just 70 points, flipping the script on a team that had won three straight. With Caitlin Clark still sidelined, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston stepped up, combining for timely buckets and defensive stops. A’ja Wilson was the top scorer for Las Vegas, but the Aces couldn’t find their usual offensive flow. For Indiana, it’s a signature win—and a blueprint for how they can thrive even without their star.
Storm Blitz Sky with Third-Quarter Barrage (SEA 95, CHI 57)
Seattle turned a road trip into a statement. The Storm blew past Chicago with a 31-point third quarter that cracked the game wide open, cruising to a 95–57 win at Wintrust Arena. With the big lead and crushed spirits, the usual starters were able to rest while game minutes were given to Dominique Malonga (and others) who contributed a double-double—a sign of things to come for the rookie. The Sky, missing Angel Reese, struggled to generate rhythm and were outscored in every quarter. For Seattle, it’s a win that reinforces their East Coast swagger—and a reminder that their depth can overwhelm when the gears align.
Fast Break Recap: Day 3
Day 3 required field goals made and field goals attempted. It was the second day in the way where over 90% earned a win and the third where over 70% earned a win out of three days. Tina Charles was utilized in 50% of lineups and came up clutch for those collectors as she provided 10 makes out of 18 attempts, which earned her the Fast Break Star of the Day. On the other hand, Nneka Ogwumike was utilized in 63% of lineups (highest), but played less than 20 minutes in the contest and made 5 field goals out of 10 attempts in that timeframe. Her lower than usual minutes was thanks to a blowout victory against the Chicago Sky, which directly affected her playing time. Regardless, she is your Fast Break Dud of the Day based on her performance relative to the others.
Today’s Matchups:
Phoenix Mercury (15-8) vs New York Liberty (16-6) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC
At Barclays Center, the New York Liberty host the Phoenix Mercury in a matchup of two of the top teams in the league. New York enters with a 69.8% win probability and a four-game win streak, leaning on Breanna Stewart’s two-way dominance and Sabrina Ionescu’s orchestration. Phoenix counters with Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas, both capable of swinging momentum, but recent defensive lapses could be costly. With playoff seeding tightening, expect a high-tempo clash where Liberty’s home-court edge and cohesion make them the projected winner.
Las Vegas Aces (12-12) vs Minnesota Lynx (21-4) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC
The Minnesota Lynx welcome the Las Vegas Aces to Target Center in a rematch of their June 18 showdown, which Minnesota won 76–62. The Lynx boast the league’s stingiest defense, allowing just 74.7 points per game, and enter with a five-game home win streak. Napheesa Collier continues her MVP-level campaign, while Courtney Williams adds scoring punch. Vegas counters with A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray, but they’ll need near-perfect execution to crack Minnesota’s defensive shell. With a 14–2 record against Western Conference foes, the Lynx are favored to hold serve at home.
Dallas Wings (7-17) vs Golden State Valkyries (10-12) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00AM UTC
At Chase Center, the Golden State Valkyries (10–12) return from the All-Star break to host the Dallas Wings (7–17). Golden State holds a 66% win probability and looks to avenge their June 17 loss to Dallas, where Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers combined for 39 points. Bueckers, fresh off tying Caitlin Clark’s rookie milestone pace, remains a must-watch, while Kayla Thornton leads the Valkyries with All-Star momentum. With Dallas missing key contributors and struggling on the road (2–10), Golden State’s home-court advantage and defensive edge make them the projected victor.
Today’s Objective(s): Day 4
You’ll need five (5) players who will score 50.0 or more points and accumulate 3.0 or more steals, which means each player will need to average 10.0 PTS & 0.6 STL.
The points threshold is low so you have some wiggle room to maximize your chances for another win, but you don’t want to go too far down your roster as you’ll risk missing one or both categories. Although only three (3) steals are needed, it could sneak up on you if you’re not careful.
