WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 6 | Day 2
Today’s Objective(s): 15 Assists
WNBA Scores:
Liberty Lean In, Outpace Fever at Barclays (NYL 98, IND 84)
New York came out of the break with rhythm and resolve. The Liberty leaned on their core trio—Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, and Jonquel Jones—to control tempo and spacing, pulling away from Indiana in the second half. The Fever, still without Caitlin Clark, got solid contributions from Kelsey Mitchell and Natasha Howard but couldn’t match New York’s perimeter precision. For the Liberty, it’s a win that reinforces their top-tier standing and sets the tone for the second half.
Lynx Lock Down Sky, Cruise to Easy Win (MIN 91, CHI 68)
Minnesota looked refreshed and ruthless. The Lynx held Chicago to just 68 points, using defensive rotations and rebounding dominance to dictate every quarter. Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride led the charge, while Courtney Williams orchestrated with poise. Angel Reese posted a double-double for the Sky, but the supporting cast couldn’t keep pace. At 21–4, the Lynx continue to look like a team built for September.
Aces Clamp Down, Handle Dream in Balanced Win (LVA 87, ATL 72)
Las Vegas flipped a shaky first quarter into a wire-to-wire win, outscoring Atlanta 25–12 in the second and never looking back. A’ja Wilson was everywhere—scoring, facilitating, defending—while Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray kept the offense humming. The Dream struggled to generate clean looks after a hot start, and Vegas’ late-game execution sealed it. For the Aces, it’s a reminder that their ceiling remains championship-caliber even after a mediocre first half of the season.
Sparks Surge Late, Hold Off Mystics (LAS 93, WAS 86)
L.A. found its gear in the second half, turning a tight contest into a seven-point road win. Dearica Hamby posted a monster 24-point, 14-rebound double-double, while Rickea Jackson dropped 20 of her 22 points after halftime. The Mystics got solid play from Shakira Austin and Brittney Sykes but couldn’t contain the Sparks’ transition game. That’s three straight wins for L.A.—and a sign their offense is starting to click and a playoff position is feasible.
Wings Stun Storm with Road Rout (DAL 87, SEA 63)
Dallas came into Climate Pledge Arena and lit a match. The Wings outscored Seattle in every quarter, riding a balanced attack and defensive intensity to a 24-point win. Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers led the scoring punch, while the Storm struggled to find rhythm without Nneka Ogwumike at full strength. For Dallas, it’s a much-needed jolt—and a blueprint for how they can climb back into the playoff mix.
Fast Break Recap: Day 1
The first day of this run required points and three pointers. Kelsey Mitchell led the way for Indiana and for 75% of lineups as she contributed 29 big points along with 3 three pointers. Although the Fever lost to the Liberty, she delivered 36% of the points needed along with 43% of the three pointers needed, which earned her the Fast Break Star of the Day. The only player to be utilized in more lineups was the other Kelsey (Plum), who was relied upon by 78% of collectors. Unfortunately she did not have as good as a day as expected and dragged down many lineups with her 11 points (and 3 three pointers). As she was the lowest scoring top five player, she is your Fast Break Dud of the Day. On a positive note, 77% of collectors earned a win on Day 1 to maintain the possibility of reaching the top tier reward, which required 10 wins.
Today’s Matchups:
Atlanta Dream (13-10) vs Phoenix Mercury (15-7)
Tonight’s lone WNBA matchup tips off at PHX Arena, where the Mercury host the Dream in a nationally televised showdown on CBS Sports Network. Phoenix enters as the favorite, backed by a stronger record and home-court advantage, though both teams have traded wins in their last five outings. Alyssa Thomas & DeWanna Bonner anchor the Mercury’s starting five, while Atlanta counters with Allisha Gray and Brionna Jones as they are without Rhyne Howard again. With playoff positioning tightening and both squads capable of explosive runs, expect a high-energy clash—but Phoenix’s depth and defensive edge make them the projected winner.
Today’s Objective(s): Day 2
You’ll need five (5) players who will distribute 15.0 or more assists, which means each player will need to average 3.0 AST.
Assists are a challenging objective in general, which is exacerbated due to the single game on today’s slate. There are a handful of players who could single-handedly cover over 50% of today’s objective - namely Alyssa Thomas & Jordin Canada. The remaining three spots on your roster are fillers with the hopes they have a decent game to cover the difference. Should Alyssa or Jordin have off games, anticipate a low win rate.
