WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 5 | Day 8

Today’s Objective(s): 5 Three Pointers Made & 5 Offensive Rebounds

WNBA Scores:

Lynx Bounce Back, Overpower Sky with Balanced Attack (Lynx 91, Sky 78)

Minnesota didn’t let Saturday’s slip linger. The Lynx returned to Wintrust Arena and flipped the narrative, outscoring Chicago in every quarter en route to a 91–78 win. Napheesa Collier continued her MVP-level stretch with 29 points, while Courtney Williams, Kayla McBride, & Bridget Carleton were all in double figures, giving Minnesota the spark it needed to pull away. Angel Reese posted 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Sky, but Chicago couldn’t match the Lynx’s tempo or defensive pressure. For Minnesota, it’s a bounce-back win that reasserts their top-tier status heading into All-Star weekend.

Mercury Survive Valkyries in West Coast Nail-Biter (Mercury 78, Valkyries 77)

Phoenix escaped Chase Center with a one-point win that felt like a playoff preview. The Mercury shot a blistering 47% from the field, while the Valkyries struggled to convert despite launching 33 threes. Alyssa Thomas & DeWanna Bonner anchored Phoenix’s offense, while Golden State leaned on perimeter volume to stay close. In the final minute, the Mercury’s defensive rotations held firm, and the Valkyries couldn’t get a clean look to flip the score. For Phoenix, it’s a third straight win—and a reminder that experience still matters when margins shrink.

Fast Break Recap: Day 7

Yesterday’s objectives centered on points and blocks and Napheesa Collier led the way with 29 points and 1 block. She was utilized in 36% of lineups and earned the Fast Break Star of the Day with her performance. On the other hand, Ariel Atkins was included in the most lineups (71%) and was injured after playing 15 minutes. Within her time on the court, she contributed a meager 2 points and no blocks. Due to her lackluster performance, she earned the Fast Break Dud of the Day award.

Today’s Matchups:

Indiana Fever (11-10) vs Connecticut Sun (3-18)

Tonight’s matchup at TD Garden marks Connecticut’s second-ever Boston showcase, but the Indiana Fever arrive with the spotlight firmly on their shoulders. Riding high off a 102-point outing against Dallas, Indiana enters with an 89.6% win probability and a chance to sweep the Sun on the road. Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell headline a surging offense, while Tina Charles and Olivia Nelson-Ododa look to salvage pride for a Sun squad that’s dropped 13 straight home games to Indiana. With ESPN airing the game nationally, expect Clark’s playmaking and Mitchell’s scoring to set the tone in what projects as a decisive Fever win.

Washington Mystics (11-10) vs Los Angeles Sparks (7-14)

At Crypto.com Arena, the Washington Mystics and Los Angeles Sparks meet in a near toss-up, with L.A. holding a slight 52.2% edge. The Sparks aim to capitalize on home-court energy and recent momentum, while Washington leans on Brittney Sykes and Sonia Citron to break through. Past matchups have been tight—three games decided by two points or fewer since May 2024—and tonight’s clash could follow suit. With both teams hovering below the playoff line, urgency will drive intensity, but L.A.’s slight edge at home makes them the projected favorite in a game that could swing late.

Today’s Objective(s): Day 8

You’ll need five (5) players who will sink 5.0 or more three pointers and accumulate 5.0 or more offensive rebounds, which means each player will need to average 1.0 3PM and 1.0 OREB.

Inherently when you’re shooting from outside, you’re not on the interior looking to gather the offensive board. There are a handful of players who have shown they can deliver both, but many collectors will look to moneyball it and identify specialists in either category with the hopes of crossing the threshold in both categories.

Power Rankings (Week 8) & Notable Fast Break Players:

Minnesota maintains their stranglehold on the top spot, but a couple losses brings them closer to the pack. New York jumps two spots to 3rd with Golden State falling two spots due to a rough week. Dallas’s momentum has stalled and they also fell down two spots since last week. With the All-Star break quickly approaching, it also means we’re at the halfway point of this season. There are plenty of games to be played though, so the playoff picture may look much different in about a month.
