WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 5 | Day 3
Today’s Objective(s): 20 Field Goals Made & 30 Field Goal Attempts
Recap & Overview:
Sun Snap the Skid, Storm Caught in the Crossfire (Sun 93, Storm 83)
Connecticut finally found daylight and earned just their third win of the season. After dropping ten straight, the Sun erupted for 93 points behind a vintage Tina Charles performance—29 points and 11 rebounds, her best outing of the season. Seattle, riding momentum from a win over New York, fell into the lull of facing the cellar dwellers. They were caught flat-footed and couldn’t match the Sun’s urgency or interior execution. Connecticut’s ball movement and rebounding edge flipped the script, and the losing streak is officially history.
Valkyries Spoil Clark’s Return, Dominate Fever (Valkyries 80, Fever 61)
Caitlin Clark was back—but the rust of not playing for a few games showed. Golden State blitzed Indiana early and never let up, cruising to a 19-point win on the road. Veronica Burton led the charge with 21 points, while Temi Fagbenle and Kayla Thornton controlled the glass and tempo. Clark, returning from a groin injury, showed flashes but couldn’t ignite the offense. Even a usually reliable Kelsey Mitchell had an off-night as she was 3 of 13 from the field (23.1%). For the Valkyries, it was a statement win against a team they’re chasing in the standings.
Mercury Burn Bright, Hand Lynx Rare Loss (Mercury 79, Lynx 71)
Phoenix flipped the narrative and showed why they should not be underestimated. In a matchup that favored Minnesota on paper, the Mercury leaned on their veterans (including a newly signed DeWanna Bonner) and defensive grit to hand the Lynx just their third loss of the season. Kahleah Copper and Brittney Griner made timely plays, while the Mercury held Minnesota to just 71 points, well below their season average. For Phoenix, it’s a win that resets expectations—and proves they can punch with the league’s elite.
Sky Surge Past Wings in Fourth-Quarter Push (Sky 87, Wings 76)
Chicago found its rhythm late and rode it to a double-digit win over Dallas. The Sky outscored the Wings 25–15 in the final frame, turning a tight contest into a convincing home victory. Angel Reese chipped in with her usual energy, while Kamilla Cardoso and Elizabeth Williams anchored the paint. Dallas, still without Arike Ogunbowale, struggled to generate consistent offense. For the Sky, it’s a much-needed boost heading into a tough weekend stretch.
Fast Break Day 2 Recap
Day 2’s objective—three-pointers and assists—was clearly a tough one to crack, with only 35% of collectors earning a win.
Skylar Diggins, used in 66% of lineups, stepped up with 7 assists and a made three-pointer, single-handedly propping up many rosters. Her contributions make her the clear Fast Break Star of the Day. Honorable mention goes to Veronica Burton, who finished with 6 assists and 5 threes and propped up lineups who included her.
On the downside, Kayla McBride’s Fast Break slump continues. She logged just 2 three-pointers and no assists, failing to help collectors hit either target. With multiple dud appearances already this run, she’s unfortunately becoming a recurring figure in this section—Fast Break Dud of the Day, once again.
Today’s Matchups
Lynx vs. Sparks: The Minnesota Lynx (17–2) roll into Crypto.com Arena as the league’s most dominant force, facing a struggling Los Angeles Sparks squad (6–13) that’s dropped four straight. Minnesota’s depth and defensive tenacity make them heavy favorites, especially with Napheesa Collier anchoring the frontcourt and Kayla McBride’s perimeter shooting keeping defenses honest. The Sparks will lean on Dearica Hamby’s versatility and rookie Rickea Jackson’s spark, but they’ll need a near-perfect outing to disrupt the Lynx’s rhythm. Expect Minnesota to control the pace and extend their win streak barring a major upset.
Aces vs. Mystics: In Fairfax, the Las Vegas Aces (9–10) wrap up a grueling five-game road trip against the Washington Mystics (9–10), with both teams eyeing a pivotal win to break .500. The Aces’ fate may hinge on A’ja Wilson’s availability after a wrist injury sidelined her midweek. If she sits, Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray will need to elevate their play to match the Mystics’ rising rookie duo—Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen—who’ve been electric in recent outings. Brittney Sykes, though cooling off, remains a defensive anchor. With both teams splitting their earlier matchups and Washington heating up from deep, this one could swing either way, but Vegas’s experience gives them a slight edge if Wilson suits up.

We almost survived Kayla McBride’s poor day, but came up one three pointer shy of the objective. We switch gears to Day 3 where we need to clear the 20 field goal threshold. Although we are out of the running for the 9-win pack, we have an outside chance at the 7 win pack.
