WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 5 | Day 2

Today’s Objective(s): 5 Three Pointers Made & 20 Assists

Recap & Overview:

Mystics Hold On Late, Edge Sky Behind Austin’s Clutch Finish (Mystics 81, Sky 79)

Washington needed a closer—and Shakira Austin answered the call. With the clock winding down in a tense back-and-forth finish, Austin calmly sank the go-ahead free throws with two seconds on the clock to help the Mystics seal a nail-biter at home. The Sky had chances, especially with Angel Reese notching yet another double-double, but the Mystics made just enough plays when it counted.

Liberty Outduel Aces in Statement Win (Liberty 87, Aces 78)

After three quarters, New York would hold a thin two-point lead going into the final frame. With about five minutes remaining, the game was knotted at 72 points apiece, but then the Aces would go cold for the next two and a half minutes where New York would build an eight point lead. From there, it was all but over and the Liberty leave Las Vegas with a much needed win to get back to their early season dominance. With Jonquel Jones still sidelined, they’ll need to survive a few more weeks.

Fast Break Opens Strong Despite A’ja Injury Setback

Day 1 of Fast Break Run 5 saw 82% of lineups notch a win, a significant improvement from the rocky openers we saw last run. Sabrina Ionescu, who appeared in 32% of lineups (5th highest), delivered the goods with 9 made free throws and 8 field goals, easily meeting the day’s dual-objective requirements and earning herself the title of Fast Break Star of the Day.

Honorable mention goes to Angel Reese, whose 12 free throws and 15 boards came after publicly voicing frustration about foul calls, which she received plenty of today.

Unfortunately, A’ja Wilson’s injury threw a wrench into things. Used in 73% of lineups, she was forced to exit after just 14 minutes and contributed only 2 free throws and zero field goals. Even though it was beyond her control, the impact on collectors was clear: she takes the unfortunate title of Fast Break Dud of the Day.

Luckily, the rest of the field stepped up, and many collectors weathered the storm.

Today’s Matchups: Storylines Shape the Slate

Today’s action spans the day with four compelling matchups on deck:

  • Seattle travels to Connecticut in what should be a favorable matchup for the Storm, given the Sun’s recent form. Expect solid production from Seattle’s frontcourt.

  • Golden State faces Indiana again, and with both teams hovering around the playoff bubble, this could be a tone-setter for the second half of the season.

  • Minnesota and Phoenix square off in a heavyweight matchup loaded with star power and stat stuffers.

  • Lastly, Angel Reese and the Sky hosts the rookie Paige Bueckers and the surging Wings. Look to Dallas to maintain their recent form against Chicago.

Fresh objectives, fresh matchups, and plenty of paths to victory. Let’s lock in lineups that push your run-based reward chase forward.

Today’s Objective(s):

WNBA Fast Break Day 2 requires five (5) players who will sink 5.0 three pointers and distribute 20.0 or more assists, which means each player will need to average 1.0 3PM & 4.0 AST. Between the two, assists will be the more challenging stat and will likely determine whether you earn a win or not today. There are a number of players who can deliver both in both objectives, but there are also specialists who may not factor in the other category (Alyssa Thomas). Keep in mind there are seven days remaining beyond today and five of those days only have four teams in action, so plan accordingly.

  • Little of Both: Caitlin Clark, Skylar Diggins, Courtney Williams

  • Outside Snipers:

    • S Tier: Sami Whitcomb, Caitlin Clark, Kayla McBride, Rachel Banham, Kelsey Mitchell, Erica Wheeler, Ariel Atkins, Skylar Diggins, Gabby Williams

  • Distributors: Alyssa Thomas, Caitlin Clark, Courtney Williams, Skylar Diggins, Veronica Burton

  • Top Five (5) Players in Pro Lineups: A. Thomas (78%), C. Williams (76%), S. Diggins (73%), K. McBride (64%), G. Williams (40%)

Upcoming Fast Break Objectives:

  • Tomorrow’s Objective(s): 20 Field Goals Made & 30 Field Goal Attempts (4.0 FGM & 6.0 FGA)

  • Objective Frequency (after today):

    • 2x: FGM, 3PM

    • 1x: FGA, AST-TO, REB, PITP, FTM, BLK, PTS, OREB, FGM, AST

Considerations:

  • Indiana has the most number of games remaining (5)

  • New York has the least number of games remaining (2)

  • Chicago is playing the second game of a back-to-back

  • After today, Day 6 & 9 are the only days with more than 2 games scheduled

  • The dreaded Assists minus Turnovers day lands on Day 4

Tome Collective’s WNBA Fast Break Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

We are live! Day 1 worked out in our favor by the slimmest of margins. The number of days where only two games were scheduled were the most challenging to map out. We also have a limited set of rookies in our collection, so we aren’t able to use Angel Reese, Kiki Iriaken, Sonia Citron, etc. We are also missing some higher end players who don’t have a wide range of moments, so your options may be wider than is represented in our outline.
