WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 3 | Day 9
Today’s Objective(s): 20 Field Goals Made & 10 Assists
Recap & Overview:
Mercury Stun Liberty, Valkyrie Keep Shocking the League
Back-to-back? No problem. Phoenix took down the one-loss Liberty last night, proving they’re more than ready to enter the title contender chat. Holding a slim halftime lead, the Mercury absorbed a third-quarter run from New York and then flipped the script in the fourth to walk away with a statement win.
The Liberty now have just two losses this season—both courtesy of the Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury, two teams loudly staking their claims as serious threats.
Golden State’s Depth Tested—And Delivers Again
The expansion Valkyrie continue to defy expectations, this time toppling Indiana in front of their Bay Area faithful. Despite missing the most players of any team due to EuroBasket absences, Golden State showed grit, rallying from a four-point deficit entering the fourth to outscore the Fever by 15 and lock in yet another win.
Indiana’s now 6–6 on the season, and if they want to graduate to true contender status, they’ll need to start stringing together wins with consistency.
Fast Break Recap: Dominance in the Paint—For Some
Yesterday’s Fast Break challenge focused on rebounds and points in the paint, and Alyssa Thomas led the charge with 15 boards and 8 PITP, earning her the Fast Break Star of the Day. In total, 55% of collectors earned a win yesterday, which carries the three-day trend of 40-60% winners when the previous five days had 90%+.
Other top performers like Natasha Howard and Breanna Stewart held their ground, but Jonquel Jones let down 72% of lineups after re-aggravating her ankle injury and logging only 8 minutes. That early exit sealed her fate as the Fast Break Dud of the Day.
Looking Ahead: Three Matchups, Plenty at Stake
Tonight’s slate features intriguing storylines across all three games:
Atlanta continues its surge and looks to stay hot against a resilient Washington squad, powered by two standout rookies.
Dallas vs. Connecticut is a battle of bottom dwellers hoping to climb out of the league’s cellar. Every win counts.
A’ja Wilson returns as the Aces take on the Storm in what could be a statement win—or another tough reality check.
