WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 3 | Day 3
Today’s Objective(s): 20 Field Goals Made & 30 Field Goal Attempts
Recap & Overview:
Seattle Strikes, Minnesota Falls for the First Time
The Seattle Storm handed Minnesota its first loss of the season, shaking up the Commissioner’s Cup race in the process. While the Lynx had looked untouchable, this result now opens the door for another Western Conference team to reach the Cup Final on July 17th.
If both Seattle and Minnesota win their last two tournament games, the Storm will claim the top spot based on head-to-head advantage. Minnesota still controls its destiny, but this defeat adds pressure heading into their final stretch.
Sparks Stun the Aces, Jackson Shines
One of the biggest surprises of the night came from Los Angeles, where the Sparks pulled off an upset against Las Vegas. While Kelsey Plum may have felt vindicated after being traded from the Aces in the offseason, Rickea Jackson stole the show, exploding for 30 points on 64% shooting.
Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray did everything they could, combining for 80% of Las Vegas’ total scoring, but it wasn’t enough. The Aces now sit with four losses, a shockingly rough start for a team expected to dominate. Even more devastating, this defeat all but eliminates them from Commissioner’s Cup contention, leaving only the regular season to focus on moving forward.
Bueckers Returns, But Dallas Still Struggles
Paige Bueckers made a triumphant return from her concussion, dropping 35 points on 68% shooting, reminding everyone why she remains a Rookie of the Year front-runner.
Despite her stellar performance, the Wings couldn’t capitalize, falling to Phoenix and remaining stuck at just one win for the season.
Fast Break Recap: High Win Rate for Day 2
Yesterday’s Fast Break challenge focused on Assists & Steals, and the majority of participants walked away victorious as 98% earned a win.
Gabby Williams emerged as the standout, appearing in 42% of lineups and contributing 7 assists & 4 steals, covering 35% of the assist threshold and a whopping 200% of the steals objective. Her dominance earned her the Fast Break Star of the Day.
Unlike previous slates, none of the top five utilized players turned in weak performances, meaning there were no duds on the day.
