NBA Fast Break Classic | Playoffs Round 1 | Day 6

Today’s Objective(s): 12 Three Pointers Made & 25 Three Point Attempts

Recap & Overview:

As expected, the number of winners yesterday was mild compared to the majority of this run, but not for the reasons we anticipated. Jimmy Butler was utilized 39% of lineups, but sustained a pelvic contusion after being undercut by Amen Thompson (who was tripped) late in the first quarter. He would not return and is flying back to the Bay Area for an MRI to determine the severity. Should he not be available in Game 3, Houston could repeat their performance yesterday and steal some wins in Northern California.

If you were one of the Fast Breakers who had him in your lineup, you would have needed four players to carry the day. Considering the top five (5) players (Mitchell, Wagner, Brown, Curry, & Banchero) each scored at least 20 points and four (4) of them scored 30 or more, there were opportunities. If, however, you did not have someone like Jalen Green in your lineup who had three (3) steals, the secondary objective could have been your downfall.

With that said, Jaylen Brown delivered 36 points and 1 steal as Tatum was unavailable, and led the Celtics to a 2-0 lead over Orlando. It also earned him the Fast Break Stud of the Day award. On the other hand, there were no egregious underperformance with points so there are no Duds, but steals were lacking among the top five players utilized yesterday.

Tomorrow we will see the first set of Game 3s and two of the three series are tied 1-1, so the winner will gain momentum leading into an important Game 4. OKC, on the other hand, looks to be in full control against Memphis and are on their way to helping the Grizzlies begin their summer vacation plans sooner rather than later.

As for the collectors who are clamoring for Playoff collecting, NBA Top Shot released their plans for this postseason (finally). Commons will be minted to 2,025, rares to 299, legendaries to 75, and ultimates to 10 and each tier will come with set completion rewards.

  • Common Completion: $25 in NBA Top Shot credit AND earn a limited edition NBA Top Shot 2025 Playoffs Mug

  • Rare Completion: Earn a limited edition and serialized NBA Top Shot 2025 Playoffs Jersey

  • Legendary Completion: Receive a one-of-a-kind, limited edition & serialized NBA Top Shot Basketball

  • Ultimate Completion: Earn a special, limited edition Gold & Diamond NBA Top Shot Championship Ring, serialized and custom engraved with your name

A different approach than we have seen in prior years, but a welcome change overall. A nice touch are the physical collectibles to coincide with the digital. Preliminarily the announcement has been well-received, but with caveats as there is natural cautious optimism. As we wait for the first set of playoff moments to be minted, let’s dive into today’s objectives.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 6 requires five (5) players who will make 12.0 or more and take 25.0 or more three pointers, which means each player will need to average at least 2.4 3PM & 5.0 3PA per player. The former will determine whether you walk away with a win and the latter will impact where you rank overall. Beasley & Harden are projected to have about 13 makes and takes whereas Brunson, Murray, SGA, Dort, & Bane are projected to have about 10. Set your lineup based on projections, averages, or whomever you think will have the hot hand today.

  • Shot Makers & Takers: Malik Beasley, James Harden, Jalen Brunson, Jamal Murray, Luguentz Dort

  • Top Five (5) Players in Classic Lineups: M. Beasley (84%), J. Harden (80%), N. Powell (74%), I. Joe (48%), L. Dort (38%)

NBA Playoffs:

Looking Ahead:

  • Tomorrow: 30.0 Rebounds & 3.0 Blocks (6.0 REB & 0.6 BLK per player)

  • After Today (objective frequency; excluding today’s objective):

    • 3x: AST, REB, FGM

    • 2x: FGA

    • 1x: BLK, PITP, STL, PTS, 3PM, 3PA

Considerations:

  • Denver, LA Clippers, New York, Detroit, LA Lakers, Minnesota, Golden State, & Houston will play a Game 5 as their respective series are tied 1-1

  • Day 11 & 12 will have at least two (2) games scheduled; Day 13-16 is TBD based on the outcomes of Game 4s

  • Day 8 and 9 have the most number of teams in action (8) between Day 1-9

  • Day 10-16 are practically guaranteed wins, but the challenge is selecting the five (5) players with the highest accumulation of the respective objective(s)

Statistical Approach:

Top players in projected three pointers made & three point attempts according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, playoff average, and the playoff projections, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected playoff stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Tome Collective’s Fast Break NBA Playoffs Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

Even though we had Jimmy Buckets in our lineup yesterday, we survived thanks to Green, Banchero, & Wagner. That makes win #5, so only two to go for the primary objective. Who knows, maybe we’ll place in the top 200 during this run.
