NBA Fast Break Classic | Playoffs Round 1 | Day 5

Today’s Objective(s): 5 Steals & 100 Points Scored

Recap & Overview:

Another day and another day where over 90% of Fast Break participants earned a win. On the plus side, the majority enjoy the allure of the win. On the down side, the jockeying for the top 200 daily packs are often determined by tiebreakers. With six teams in action, there was at least variance among the top 200 considering there were only two (2) Fast Breakers who shared the most points yesterday. If you were one of the 63% who had Giannis in your lineup, you had the Fast Break Stud of the Day as he delivered 28 points in the paint and 7 offensive rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to earn a win against the Pacers - even with Damian Lillard back in the lineup.

On the other end of the spectrum, you had Rudy Gobert who only had one (1) offensive rebound and four (4) points in the paint. It wasn’t enough to sink lineups, but he definitely didn’t help the 58% of lineups who started him. For his performance, he earned the not-so-coveted Fast Break Dud of the Day. The salt in the wound was their loss to the Lakers that evened the series. At least they’re heading back to Minnesota to be surrounded by their raucous fans.

Today, we’ll have the remaining Game 2s as Houston, Orlando, and Miami look to even their respective series. With the Lakers earning a win yesterday, we will have at least two (2) teams in action on Day 12. Day 13-16 are still up in the air and will depend on what transpires in Game 4s, so we are a few days away from that clarity. Thus far, we’ve seen some intense matchups and some big blowouts, but the majority have been highly entertaining. With Jayson Tatum doubtful for today, Boston could be at risk of dropping a game to a hungry Orlando team, so that will be a game to watch as well. More so, the Houston v. Golden State game looks to be a bounce back game for Houston or they risk being swept by a hot Warriors team.

Day 5 of Fast Break and the remaining Game 2s will make for another exciting day of playoff basketball. Set your lineup and enjoy the show today.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 5 requires five (5) players who will accumulate 5.0 or more steals and score 100.0 or more points, which means each player will need to average at least 1.0 STL & 20.0 PTS per player. These two objectives are infrequently correlated, but there are a handful of players who have a tendency to deliver both. Jimmy Butler’s 5 steals in Game 1 may be an outlier, but his scoring output could be the worth the inclusion in your lineup. Although 100 points is lower than the normal threshold of 125, there is still a risk in missing the mark if you have a gross underperformer (like Jalen Green in Game 1). Also, steals are never a given, so you could be tripped up there as well (and no Dyson Daniels in sight). Whether you lean entirely on the players who can deliver both objectives or moneyball it to identify specialists, today will likely have a much lower success rate than we’ve seen to date.

  • Little of Both: Stephen Curry, Donovan Mitchell, Jimmy Butler, Franz Wagner, Tyler Herro

  • Thieves: Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, Bam Adebayo, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Tari Eason, Donovan Mitchell

  • Scorers: Stephen Curry, Paolo Banchero, Donovan Mitchell, Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Franz Wagner

  • Top Five (5) Players in Classic Lineups: F. Wagner (67%), D. Mitchell (64%), J. Tatum (51%), P. Banchero (49%), S. Curry (48%)

NBA Playoffs:

Looking Ahead:

  • Tomorrow: 12.0 Three Pointers Made & 25.0 Three Point Attempts (2.4 3PM & 5.0 3PA per player)

  • After Today (objective frequency; excluding today’s objective):

    • 3x: AST, REB, FGM

    • 2x: FGA, 3PM, 3PA

    • 1x: BLK, PITP, STL, PTS

Considerations:

  • Denver, LA Clippers, New York, Detroit, LA Lakers, & Minnesota will play a Game 5 as their series is tied 1-1

  • Day 11 & 12 will have at least one (1) game scheduled; Day 13-16 is TBD based on the outcomes of Game 4s

  • Day 8 and 9 have the most number of teams in action (8) between Day 1-9

  • Day 10-16 are guaranteed wins, so it will be a challenge in selecting the five (5) players with the highest accumulation of the specific objective(s)

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

That’s win number 4, so we are more than halfway toward the goal. With Tatum sidelined due to a bone bruise, we’re going with another unconventional lineup with the hopes that they all show up. Jalen Green is a bit of a wild card considering how poorly he shot the ball in Game 1 against Golden State, so we’re hoping for a bounce back effort. Here’s our lineup today.
