NBA Fast Break Classic | Playoffs Round 1 | Day 4

Today’s Objective(s): 5 Offensive Rebounds & 35 Points in the Paint

Recap & Overview:

The pendulum swung back in the right direction as 90% of lineups earned a win on Day 3. There were six (6) players with over ten rebounds apiece, which would have covered over a third of yesterday’s objective. Considering Zubac, Joker, and Duren were 3 of 5 most utilized players, its clear why there were so many winners. Of this bunch, Duren had the most rebounds (13) so he is your Fast Break Stud of the Day. On the other side of the coin is Karl-Anthony Towns who was utilized in 75% of lineups, but only contributed six (6) rebounds in a loss to the Pistons. Although not an awful performance, it was the worst of the bunch, so he is your Fast Break Dud of the Day.

Day 4 continues the slew of Game 2s as Milwaukee, Memphis, and the Lakers look to follow Detroit & the Clippers’ lead and even their respective series. Of the bunch, Memphis has the unlikeliest path to a win as they were blown out by over 50 points in their first meeting against a confident Thunder squad. If there’s any hope at not being swept, they’ll need to do a lot better than they did in Game 1. For Milwaukee, Dame was upgraded to questionable, so he’s not officially out of the mix. Given his squabble with Haliburton & Siakam, it would make for an interesting story if he were to return and help the Bucks even the series. Lastly, the Lakers looked lost at home against a well-balanced Timberwolves team and are at risk of going down 0-2 heading to Minnesota. I wouldn’t count out LeBron & Luka as they have shown success in the playoffs, but they’ll need more help from the rest of the lineup if they want to even the series.

Sit back and enjoy another entertaining day of playoff basketball. While you’re at it, be sure to check your lineup and confirm there aren’t any who are ruled out. Although the thresholds are lower than they were during the regular season, there are no assurances of a win (see Day 2). Also, with Detroit and the Clippers winning to even their respective series, that means Day 11 will have at least four (4) teams in action. As the Playoffs progress and games are decided, we’ll have a better sense of the players that’ll be available for the tail-end of this series which will ultimately dictate your player options based on your collection. It will likely determine how the Fast Break overall standings will shape out also. In the meantime, be sure to accumulate as many wins as you can on the front end, so put your best foot forward based on whichever strategy you decide to deploy today utilizing the data you have available.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 4 requires five (5) players who will accumulate 5.0 or more offensive rebounds and score 35.0 or more points in the paint, which means each player will need to average at least 1.0 OREB & 7.0 PITP per player. Although these two objectives are correlated, scorers who score in the paint aren’t always the ones positioned to gather rebounds. So, there are players who can get you both or you can moneyball it and utilize specialists. If you focus too much on points though, you risk losing the day on offensive rebounds. If yesterday’s Pro run is any indication, the threshold is winnable with the wide mix of players.

  • Little of Both: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Pascal Siakam, Julius Randle

  • (Offensive) Glass Crashers: Zach Edey, Rudy Gobert, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Isaiah Hartenstein, Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Pascal Siakam, Myles Turner, Jarred Vanderbilt, Jaxson Hayes

  • Inside Scorers: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Pascal Siakam, Jalen Williams, Jaren Jackson, Julius Randle, Ja Morant, Anthony Edwards

  • Top Five (5) Players in Classic Lineups: G. Antetokounmpo (66%), I. Hartenstein (66%), R. Gobert (65%), P. Siakam (60%), J. Jackson (49%)

NBA Playoffs:

Looking Ahead:

  • Tomorrow: 5.0 Steals & 100.0 Scored (1.0 STL & 20.0 PTS per player)

  • After Today (objective frequency; excluding today’s objective):

    • 3x: AST, REB, FGM

    • 2x: STL, FGA, PTS, 3PM, 3PA

    • 1x: BLK, PITP

Considerations:

  • Denver, LA Clippers, New York, & Detroit will play a Game 5 as their series is tied 1-1

  • Beginning Day 10, how soon a series ends will impact which players are available thereafter

  • Day 8 and 9 have the most number of teams in action (8) between Day 1-9

  • Day 10-16 are guaranteed wins, so it will be a challenge in selecting the five (5) players with the highest accumulation of the specific objective(s)

Tome Collective’s Fast Break NBA Playoffs Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

Back on track on Day 3 and we are five wins from the minimum threshold. This is an unconventional lineup and unlikely to reach the top 200…but stranger things have happened - especially on day where offensive rebounds & points in the paint are needed.
