NBA Fast Break Classic | Playoffs Round 1 | Day 3

Today’s Objective(s): 35 Rebounds

Recap & Overview:

Day 2’s playoff games went the way many (and the odds) anticipated with Oklahoma City, Cleveland, and Boston winning by large margins (OKC won by 51 points over Memphis). If the rest of the series goes the way it did today, we’ll likely see their respective series going no more than 5 games which means the last few days will exclude a large swath of players.

Houston was the second “upset” of the playoffs as the 2 seed fell to the 7 seed, yet were the underdogs based on betting odds. They’ll hope to turn it around when they face Golden State again for Game 2 of the series and hope to look like the team in the second half of Game 1 instead of the team who showed up in the first half where they scored less than 40 points total. Should they lose again, Golden State will head back to Northern California in good position to close out the series on home court.

Day 2 Classic looked to be a relatively easy day as the number of assists fell well below what we’ve seen in the past. Surely there were reliable players who could accumulate 30.0 or more assists. Apparently, the players did not receive the memo and only 3% of Fast Break lineups had enough to exceed this threshold. If you did not have Davion Mitchell in your lineup, you likely fell short of the objective as he was the only player to have 9 or more assists and only five (5) players total had 6 or more assists. With that said and considering the top five most utilized players, Ja Morant (71%) and Jayson Tatum (50%) are your Fast Break Duds of the Day as they could only produce four (4) assists. The most utilized player (Darius Garland, 77%) could only deliver five (5) Assists. Of the top five players utilized, Fred VanVleet contributed seven (7) assists to earn the Fast Break Stud of the Day.

Knowing today has only four (4) team in action, anticipate minimal variance among the players utilized today. This means we will collectively win together or lose together depending on who lives up to their expectations. Let’s dive into today’s projections.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 3 requires five (5) players who will accumulate 35.0 or more rebounds, which means each player will need to average at least 7.0 REB. Single objective today with a lower than usual threshold. There are only four (4) teams in action today, so your options aren’t as expansive, but you should have no trouble reaching today’s objective. The question is whether you want to push for a top 200 finish and burn valuable players or not.

  • Glass Crashers: Nikola Jokic, Ivica Zubac, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Duren, Josh Hart

  • Top Five (5) Players in Classic Lineups: I. Zubac (85%), J. Hart (78%), K. Towns (77%), J. Duren (60%), N. Jokic (45%)

NBA Playoffs:

Looking Ahead:

  • Tomorrow: 5.0 Offensive Rebounds & 35.0 Points in the Paint (1.0 OREB & 7.0 PITP per player)

  • After Today (objective frequency; excluding today’s objective):

    • 3x: AST, REB, FGM

    • 2x: STL, FGA, PITP, PTS, 3PM, 3PA

    • 1x: BLK, OREB

Considerations:

  • Beginning Day 10, how soon a series ends will impact which players are available thereafter

  • Day 3 has the least number of teams in action (4) between Day 1-9

  • Day 2, 8, and 9 have the most number of teams in action (8) between Day 1-9

  • Day 10-16 are guaranteed wins, so it will be a challenge in selecting the five (5) players with the highest accumulation of the specific objective(s)

Statistical Approach:

Day 2 felt like it was an easy win, but turned out to be far from it. Today is more focused on getting a win vs. reaching the top 200 as many lineups will look similar due to the limited number of players to choose from. Four of our five included in our lineup are also included in the list of most utilized. We shelved Joker for a different day and included Mitchell Robinson instead.
