NBA Fast Break Run 13 | Day 9

Today’s Objective(s): 5 Blocks & 5 Steals

Recap & Overview:

Yesterday felt good as 94% of all Fast Breakers earned a win. As there were only two games and multiple players becoming unavailable due to injuries, most lineups leaned on Zach LaVine (77%) and DeMar DeRozan (76%) either deliberately or out of necessity. If you had both of these players in your lineup, you walked away victorious as they combined for 80 points. Between the two, Zach had the better performance as he scored 43 points. He is also the first Kings player in history to score at least 35 points and 5+ three pointers in consecutive games (he would’ve been useful on Day 7), which earned him the Fast Break Stud of the Day.

Of the other three players, none had an egregious underperformance so there were no clear Duds of the Day. Malik Monk was close though as he was utilized in 38% of lineups and only scored 2 points - primarily because there were better scoring options in the Kings lineup. One of the rare occurrences in Run 13 where no Duds were present.

There are five days remaining in this run and there remains four (4) Fast Breakers who are perfect to date. Today will be a challenge as blocks and steals are needed. With ten games on today’s slate, you have plenty of player options to choose from. Keep in mind every team will have three (3) games remaining after today and some teams will begin to pull players ahead of the NBA Play-In Tournament (April 15-18) and the NBA Playoffs beginning on April 19th. About a month later, the WNBA Regular Season will begin which will be Caitlin, Angel, & Cameron’s second season. It’ll also be NCAA Women’s National Champion (UCONN) Paige Bueckers’s rookie season who is projected to be the top overall pick by the Dallas Wings and will undoubtedly be a fan favorite. If this run is any indication, anticipate a Classic and Pro mode for the WNBA and moments are more scarce relative to the NBA. If the rewards are attractive, values will inevitably rise.

Until then, we have a few more days in this run and multiple rounds of playoffs to participate in Fast Break. Let’s dive into today’s objectives and projections.

As a reminder, Tome+ membership grants you access to useful Fast Break resources, Pro Mode articles, and full data sets for Classic. If you’re curious, but don’t want to pay the $4.99 per month or $12.99 for three months, sending any rare moment to TS: TomeCollective will grant you access for three months, which will include the NBA Playoffs and the first two months of the WNBA Season.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 9 requires five (5) players who will accumulate 5.0 or more blocks and 5.0 or more steals, which means each player will need to average at least 1.0 BLK & 1.0 STL. There are easy days and there are difficult days. Blocks and steals lean more toward the difficult side as few players can truly generate both on a consistent basis. Players like Dyson Daniels has averaged 3.1 steals per game and Myles Turner & Brook Lopez have averaged 1.9 blocks per game for the season. Unsurprisingly, these three are in the top 5 most utilized players today.

  • Little of Both: Jaren Jackson, Draymond Green, Rudy Gobert, James Harden, Onyeka Okongwu

  • Shot Blockers: Myles Turner, Chet Holmgren, Brook Lopez, Zach Edey, Evan Mobley, Kristaps Porzingis, Nic Claxton, Bismack Biyombo, Rudy Gobert, Mark Williams

  • Thieves: Dyson Daniels, Reece Beekman, Kawhi Leonard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, James Harden, Cason Wallace, Jimmy Butler, Josh Hart, Scotty Pippen, Devin Vassell

  • Top Five (5) Players in Classic Lineups: J. Jackson (79%), B. Lopez (66%), M. Turner (48%), N. Claxton (42%), D. Daniels (42%)

  • Pro Mode Limitations: Throwdowns (Rare)

Looking Ahead:

  • Tomorrow: 50 Points in the Paint & 12 Offensive Rebounds will be the two objectives; 20 teams in action

  • Objectives frequency (after today): FGM, FGA, OREB, AST, PIP, 3PM, PTS

Considerations:

  • Ten (10) teams have the least number of games remaining (3)

  • All other teams have the most number of games this run (4)

  • No teams are playing the tail-end of a back-to-back

  • 4 of the last 5 days have 20 or more teams in action (including today) & the final two days have all teams in action; Day 11 is the exception

  • Pro mode has a different limitation each day; it also has different objectives compared to Classic

NBA Playoff Picture:

Eastern Conference: With Detroit’s loss, they move closer to solidifying the 6th spot with three games remaining. Miami’s win keeps them within 0.5 games from the 9th position, which will determine who has home court between the Bulls & the Heat.

Western Conference: With Sacramento’s win, they move a full game ahead of Dallas for the 9th spot, which will determine who has home court between the Kings & the Mavericks.

Statistical Approach:

Top players in projected blocks & steals according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 games, and rest of season projections, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Tome Collective’s Fast Break Run 13 Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

It was the LaVine & DeRozan Show who carried us to a win yesterday as they collectively crested the points objective. That means we only have one win to reach the 7-win threshold and another five to reach the 11-win stretch goal. We are also currently 175th overall, which would earn us a $5 reward. As we are close, we are going to push for a top 100 finish which would earn us a $25 reward.
