NBA Fast Break Run 9 | Day 8

Pick 5 Players who will combine for 5 Blocks & 30 Field Goals Made to earn your win.

Recap & Overview:

The 2024-2025 NBA season had one of the more active trade deadlines in recent memory. For the sake of Fast Break, here are the most notable trades. De’Andre Hunter has made his way up the depth chart for Fast Break lineups and now makes his way to Cleveland; Nurkic lands in Charlotte in exchange for Cody Martin & Vasilije Micic (along with draft capital); three-point specialist Bogdan Bogdanovic is headed to the Clippers; Denis Schroder lands in Detroit after being traded to four teams in the past two days; and Marcus Smart is headed to the Wizards. This isn’t an exhaustive list, but they are the most meaningful for Fast Break.

Along with the trade deadline shenanigans, the NBA All-Star team selections were made by Shaq, Kenny, and Chuck. If you look at the make-up of each team, you could argue it was scripted as Shaq has Team USA (LBJ, Steph, AD, KD, etc.), Kenny has the new blood talent (Ant, Brunson, JJJ, Cade, etc.), and Chuck has the international powerhouses (Jokic, Giannis, SGA, Sengun, etc.). It’ll be interesting to see whether this ASG format garners a better outcome than we’ve seen in previous years.

As for yesterday, the entire Boston lineup earned the Fast Break Dud of the Day. If you were one of the many who leaned heavily on the Celtics, you were given third degree burns. It hurt more if you had a perfect record up until today. On the other hand, Denver beat Orlando by 22 points so many of their players had an outstanding +/- outcome.

As we are officially at the midway point of this run, there are seven (7) days remaining to earn the needed wins to earn the different tier of rewards. So long as you have at least four (4) wins, you still have a chance at the 11-win reward. With that said, let’s start the second half of this run with a win.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 8 requires five (5) players who will accumulate 5 or more blocks and make 30 or more field goals, which means your lineup will need to average 1.0 BLK & 6.0 FGM per player. There are a slew of players who have the capability of delivering on both stats or you can moneyball it and focus on specialists to earn a win today. Regardless of your approach, a balanced lineup with reliable stat stuffers will help you win the day. Lean on the data below to maximize your lineup.

  • Little of Both: Victor Wembanyama, Kevin Durant, Evan Mobley, Scottie Barnes

  • Shot Blockers: Victor Wembanyama, Walker Kessler, Brook Lopez, Evan Mobley, Chet Holmgren, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jalen Duren, Joel Embiid

  • Shot Makers: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kevin Durant, Cade Cunningham, Tyrese Maxey, Devin Booker, LaMelo Ball, Joel Embiid, Miles Bridges, Victor Wembanyama, Trae Young, Donovan Mitchell, Jalen Williams, Darius Garland, De'Aaron Fox, Tyler Herro

  • Top Five (5) Players in FB Lineups: B. Lopez (54%), E. Mobley (50%), G. Antetokounmpo (31%), J. Collins (29%), I. Hartenstein (25%)

Looking Ahead:

  • Tomorrow, 50 Points in the Paint & 12 Offensive Rebounds will be the two objectives; 22 teams in action

  • Objectives frequency (after today): OREB, AST-TO, FGA, PIP, REB, PTS, AST, STL, 3PM, 3PA, FGM

Considerations:

  • Twelve (12) teams have the least games remaining this run (3)

  • Oklahoma City & Utah teams have the most games remaining this run (5)

  • No teams are playing the tail-end of back-to-back games

  • Day 10 & 12 only have 6 & 8 teams in action, respectively so your lineup options will be more limited

  • Day 9, 11, & 13 have 20 or more teams in action (Day 13 has all 30 teams in action)

  • 3 of 7 remaining days this run will have a single objective (or resembles a single objective)

  • Assists minus turnovers makes a return on Day 10

Statistical Approach:

Top players in projected blocks and field goals made according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 games, and rest of season projections, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Tome Collective’s Fast Break Run 9 Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

Ouch. Many people will lean on one or two teams for plus/minus day and that’s usually a recipe for a big win or a big loss. Thanks to the Celtics, we lost big yesterday. Let’s get back on track today. With the trade of Mark Williams to the Lakers, we needed to swap him out.
