NBA Fast Break Run 9 | Day 7

Pick 5 Players who will combine for 30 +/- to earn your win.

Recap & Overview:

It was a busy day for trades throughout the NBA with potential Fast Break implications. Jimmy Butler makes his way to Golden State where he will likely play more meaningful minutes and may spark greater usage in Fast Break relative to the year so far where he has grossly underperformed his norm. Next, Kyle Kuzma teams up with Giannis and Dame in Milwaukee. Also, Mark Williams moves from Charlotte to the Lakers and will likely fill the center role that was vacated by AD. Lastly, Brandon Ingram moves north of the border to Toronto and will slot into their starting lineup.

With the trade deadline quickly approaching (Thursday, February 6th @ 3:00PM ET today), we may not be done with player movement that’ll affect lineups for the remainder of this run and for the rest of the season. Kevin Durant is the most prominent name currently swirling as a potential trade target for many teams, so keep an eye out for trade news today.

Before we move forward, let’s reflect on yesterday’s results. Steph Curry was utilized in 81% of lineups and came through for these Fast Breakers as he made 6 of 18 three pointers. Similarly, Anthony Edwards made 6 of 14 three pointers and was utilized in 49% of lineups. Combined they accounted for 80% of the objective yesterday, so they are your Fast Break co-Studs of the Day. Now if you were one of the 47% of lineups who included Malik Beasley in your lineup, you’re likely fuming at his performance considering he made no three pointers out of six attempts. In his last eight games prior to yesterday, he made at least 3 three pointers in each…so this was an awful day to hit a cold streak. Unsurprisingly, he earned the Fast Break Dud of the Day.

With six days behind us and eight days ahead, we are down to 504 perfect records for Run 9. Should Boston have a poor day against the Mavericks, anticipate that number to drop significantly. If not, there are some tumultuous days ahead. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves though, let’s take it one day at a time and dive into today’s stats.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 7 requires five (5) players who will accumulate 30 or more plus/minus, which means your lineup will need to average 6.0 +/- per player. A common approach to this objective is loading up on one or two teams who have a favorable matchup. Keep in mind +/- increases and decreases based on points scored while your lineup is on the court so one moment you could be up and the next you could be down. Unless your players are starters on a team who’s blown out the opposition, you won’t truly know where you stand until the final buzzer sounds. As there are no projections for this objective, we utilized Last 10 and season stats. With that said and based on today’s matchups, Boston players will be popular picks as they’re playing the Dallas Mavericks who have lost three straight games, but it will likely be Anthony Davis’s debut. Denver is also favored against Orlando, but they beat the Kings yesterday 130-111.

  • +/- based on Last 10 Games: Toumani Camara, Deandre Ayton, Jalen Suggs, Jarred Vanderbilt, Jerami Grant, Dorian Finney-Smith, Ivica Zubac, Anthony Edwards, Scoot Henderson, Derrick Jones, Austin Reaves

  • +/- based on Season Average: Jarred Vanderbilt, Nikola Jokic, Kawhi Leonard, Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, Jaylen Brown, Aaron Gordon, Luke Kornet, Al Horford, Michael Porter, Alperen Sengun

  • Top Five (5) Players in FB Lineups: D. White (56%), K. Leonard (51%), J. Tatum (39%), J. Brown (36%), M. Porter (29%)

Looking Ahead:

  • Tomorrow, 5 blocks & 30 field goals made will be the two objectives; 14 teams in action

  • Objectives frequency (after today):

    • 2x: FGM

    • 1x: OREB, AST-TO, FGA, BLK, PIP, REB, PTS, AST, STL, 3PM, 3PA

Considerations:

  • Five (5) teams have the least games remaining this run (3)

  • Seven (7) teams have the most games remaining this run (5)

  • Golden State, Minnesota, Orlando, & Sacramento are playing the tail-end of back-to-back games

  • Day 10 & 12 only have 6 & 8 teams in action, respectively so your lineup options will be more limited

  • Day 9, 11, & 13 have 20 or more teams in action (Day 13 has all 30 teams in action)

  • 4 of 8 remaining days this run will have a single objective (or resembles a single objective)

  • Assists minus turnovers makes a return on Day 10

Statistical Approach:

Top players in last 10 & season average plus/minus according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. Tome Collective’s Fast Break Run 9 Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

That’s win number five overall and fourth in a row. We have two more to go for our primary objective and six more to go for the stretch goal. Today’s lineup is filled with Boston players, so we’re hoping they’ll earn a blowout win against Dallas.
