NBA Fast Break Run 9 | Day 3
Pick 5 Players who will combine for 35 Rebounds and 40 Points in the Paint to earn your win.
Overview:
The news of the day is the shocking blockbuster trade between the Lakers and Dallas (with some assistance from Utah). If you haven’t been keeping up, Anthony Davis is now in Dallas while Luka is moving to Hollywood (when he returns from his calf injury). This does not, however, have Fast Break implications as Dallas & the LA Lakers have mirroring schedules after today. Considering the trade occurred late yesterday, AD will likely be unavailable for Dallas’s game against Cleveland so whichever days you planned to use Anthony Davis can remain unchanged unless you find a better option.
Unlike Fast Break Run 8’s Day 2, only 19% were successful in selecting a lineup that produced at least 5 steals and at least 5 blocks. Much of that blame can be directed at Myles Turner who was used in 64% of lineups, but only produced one steal and no blocks. As he was the only player who contributed one stat, he is your Fast Break Dud of the Day. On the other end of the spectrum was Rudy Gobert who had two (2) steals and two (2) blocks and likely contributed to many wins today. As you could likely see coming, he is your Fast Break Stud of the Day.
Today’s objectives are more attainable, so utilize the data and information you have while you maximize your Day 3 lineup for today. Let’s dive in.
Today’s Objective(s):
Fast Break Day 3 requires five (5) players who will accumulate 35.0 or more rebounds and 40.0 or more points in the paint, which means your lineup will need to average 7.0 REB & 8.0 PIP per player. These two stats have a high correlation as players who have a tendency to score inside the paint are also those who gather the most rebounds - ex: Giannis. That’s not always the case as some players prefer to slash to the rim, but may not be the most proficient with rebounds - ex: Maxey. There are plenty of players who have the ability to cover both objectives, so relying on specialists may not be the most impactful - especially if they’re more important on other days this run.
Little of Both: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Ivica Zubac, Nikola Vucevic, Jalen Duren, Evan Mobley
Glass Crashers: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Ivica Zubac, Jalen Duren, Nikola Vucevic, P.J. Washington, Evan Mobley
Inside Scorers: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Cade Cunningham, Daniel Gafford, Tyrese Maxey, Nikola Vucevic, Ivica Zubac, Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving, Jaren Jackson, Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, Jakob Poeltl, Kawhi Leonard, Jalen Duren, Kelly Oubre, Scottie Barnes
Top Five (5) Players in FB Lineups: I. Zubac (79%), J. Poeltl (70%), N. Vucevic (58%), J. Allen (50%), E. Mobley (47%)
Looking Ahead:
Tomorrow, 125 Points Scored will be single objective; 20 teams in action
Objectives frequency (after today):
2x: PTS, 3PM, 3PA, AST, FGM, STL
1x: +/-, OREB, AST-TO, FGA, BLK, PIP, REB
Considerations:
Brooklyn, LA Lakers, New York, & Portland have the least number of games remaining this run (5)
Philadelphia has the most number of games remaining this run (8)
No team is playing the tail-end of back-to-back games
Day 10 & 12 only have 6 & 8 teams in action, respectively so your lineup options will be more limited
Day 7 only have two (2) teams in action, so plan around this date to avoid being stuck without options
Day 6, 9, 11, & 13 have 20 or more teams in action (Day 13 has all 30 teams in action)
Half the days this run will have a single objective (or resembles a single objective)
Assists minus turnovers makes a return on Day 10
The always volatile +/- lands on Day 7 with a slighter higher threshold (30 vs. 25)
Statistical Approach:
Top players in projected rebounds & points in the paint according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 games, and rest of season projections, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Tome Collective’s Fast Break Run 9 Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):
Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.
Day 2 was a bust as we came up short on the steals, so now we shift our focus to Day 3. AD moving to Dallas does not conflict with his inclusion on Day 9, but we still have flexibility in slotting in Luka if he returns before the break. With the five (5) players we have playing on Day 3, we feel good about our chances.
