NBA Fast Break Run 8 | Day 9

Pick 5 Players who will combine for 25 +/- to earn your win.

Recap & Overview:

Veteran Fast Breakers circled Day 8 (along with a few other days) for Run 8 as it was going to be a challenging one to win, which became more difficult with Dyson Daniels and others out yesterday. Unsurprisingly, only 9% of participants earned a win yesterday which shrinks the total number of perfect records to 13 with three more days to go. Fun fact: the win rate the past 6 days have not exceeded 44%. All in all, many would agree this has been a tough series. So long as you have at least six (6) wins, you still have a chance at the 9-win pack though. Otherwise you’ll need at least four (4) wins for the 6-win pack.

Based on the top five players utilized yesterday, there were no glaring underperformances as everyone delivered at least two (2) total stats. In terms of outperformances, the entire New York Knicks team compiled 20 total steals and Daniel Gafford accumulated five (5) blocks. Collectively, there are your Fast Break Studs of the Day. Did you know the record for most team steals is 27 by the Seattle SuperSonics in 1997 (predecessor to the Oklahoma City Thunder). The individual with the most steals in a game? Kendall Gill with 11, who happens to have a single moment on NBA Top Shot.

We’re going to need that same energy and defensive prowess to have a positive outcome today. Let’s dive into the stats.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 9 requires five (5) players who will accumulate 25 +/-, which means your lineup will need to average 5.0 +/- per player. A common approach to this objective is loading up on one or two teams who have a favorable matchup. Keep in mind +/- increases and decreases based on points scored while your lineup is on the court so one moment you could be up and the next you could be down. Unless your players are starters on a team who’s blown out the opposition, you won’t truly know where you stand until the final buzzer sounds. As there are no projections for this objective, we utilized Last 10 and season stats. With that said and based on today’s matchups, Milwaukee & Houston players will be popular picks.

  • +/- based on Last 10 Games: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Gary Trent, AJ Green, Jerami Grant, Aaron Holiday, Damian Lillard, Bobby Portis, Khris Middleton, Ryan Rollins

  • +/- based on Season Average: Alperen Sengun, Fred VanVleet, Dillon Brooks, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Elijah Harkless, Khris Middleton, AJ Green, Tari Eason, Amen Thompson

  • Top Five (5) Players in FB Lineups: A. Sengun (61%), F. VanVleet (59%), D. Brooks (46%), K. Middleton (39%), D. Finney-Smith (32%)

Looking Ahead:

  • Tomorrow, 15 OREB & 60 PIP will be the two (2) objectives; there are 22 teams in action

  • Objectives Breakdown (after today): OREB, PIP, 3PM, 3PA

Considerations:

  • Atlanta, Houston, LA Lakers, Milwaukee, & Utah are playing the tail-end of a back-to-back today

  • Twenty (20) teams have the least number of games remaining (1)

  • Ten (10) teams have the most number of games remaining (2)

  • Milwaukee’s last game is on Day 9 (today)

Statistical Approach:

Top players in +/- according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 games, and rest of season projections, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Tome Collective’s Fast Break Run 8 Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

One block away from our fifth win. Day 9 is looking extra spicy, so we’ve loaded up on Houston Rockets players with a Bucks player mixed in. To earn the six win pack, we’ll need two wins over the next three days. Not feeling very confident with this one, but hoping for the best.
