NBA Fast Break Run 8 | Day 5

Pick 5 Players who will combine for 40 Rebounds to earn your win.

Recap & Overview:

Since coming back from his lengthy hiatus due to injury, Paolo Banchero had scored less than 20 points only once during his six-game stretch. With Franz Wagner returning and with the Magic playing the likely lottery bound Portland Trailblazers, it was understandable why Banchero was one of the top five utilized players yesterday. Alas, Paolo had his worst shooting day in recent memory as he went 1-14 from the field and only scored eight (8) points - his first sub-10 point game all season. Portland earned their 3rd straight win while Orlando lost their 5th straight. By being off the pace by 17 points and likely contributing to the high volume of losses, he is your Fast Break Dud of the Day. On the other hand, Joker led the Nuggets to a win and chipped in 35 points for the cause and Fast Breakers who included him in their lineup.

After two 70%+ win percentages to start off this run, the past two days have produced less than 50% winners (there was 20% yesterday). The field of perfect records shrank further, but there are still a few hundred in the mix for the top prize. Considering there are only 6 teams in action today, the available players are limited - especially those who are reliable in accumulating rebounds. Put your best foot forward, be sure to plan ahead, and keep yourself in the know on various injuries that may impact your lineup. And with that, it’s time to dive into the projections. Tracking the injury report will be vital today considering the players who have an injury designation.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 5 requires five (5) players who will accumulate 40.0 rebounds, which means your lineup will need to average 8.0 REB per player. Although today’s objective is straightforward, the limited number of games and the uncertainty around certain key rebounders will make for a challenging day. Mark Williams is a must-start if you have him available as he will anchor your lineup and provide a buffer for low rebound outputs for other players in your lineup. Deandre Ayton (if healthy) & Jarrett Allen are the other strong considerations on a day where high-end rebounders are limited. Beyond that, use your best judgment based on your lineup limitations and the data available for those players.

  • Glass Crashers: Mark Williams, Deandre Ayton*, Jarrett Allen, Yves Missi*, Miles Bridges, Donovan Clingan*

  • Top Five (5) Players in FB Lineups: J. Allen (87%), M. Bridges (60%), M. Williams (60%), J. Jackson (27%), D. Avdija (24%)

*Carrying an injury designation today

Looking Ahead:

  • Tomorrow, 15 three pointers & 130 points scored are the two objectives; there are 28 teams in action

  • Objectives Breakdown (after today):

    • 2x: 3PM

    • 1x: BLK, STL, +/-, OREB, 3PA, AST, PIP, PTS, REB

Considerations:

  • Portland is playing the tail-end of a back-to-back today

  • The always challenging +/- will take place on Day 9

  • Indy, OKC, and San Antonio have the least number of games remaining (2)

  • Cleveland has the most number of games remaining (5)

  • Day 7 only have two (2) teams in action, so plan around this date to avoid being stuck without options

  • Day 6, 8, & 10 have 20+ teams in action (10+ games)

  • Milwaukee’s last game is on Day 9

  • Of the 11 days in this run, five have 10 or fewer teams in action

Statistical Approach:

Top players in projected rebounds according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

Burned by Paolo on Day 4 which breaks our win streak. Day 5 is looking tough as Ayton, Missi, and Mobley are either confirmed out or potentially out. If Ayton is out, we’ll sub in Robert Williams or Missi (if he’s available).
