NBA Fast Break Run 3 | Day 9

Pick 5 Players who will combine for 15 Free Throws Made and 25 Assists to earn your win.

Overview:

For the first time this run, we do not have a clear Fast Break Dud of the Day. Of the five (5) most used players (K. Towns (48%), N. Jokic (46%), S. Curry (45%), L. Markkanen (38%), M. Porter (35%)), none egregiously underperformed. On the contrary, virtually all contributed in meaningful fashion. KAT only had one 3PM but gathered 16 rebounds, Joker did what Joker does best, Steph had a better 2nd half to deliver three (3) 3PM, and Lauri provided five (5) three pointers to go along with a healthy number of rebounds. Of the bunch, the Fast Break Stud of the Day award goes to Michael Porter who helped 35% of lineups with his outperformance with 11 rebounds and 4 three pointers. Honorable mention goes to Brandon Miller who delivered 11 rebounds and 6 three pointers, although he wasn’t heavily utilized. Considering this is his sophomore season and he continues to show signs of being a must-have for Fast Break, I don’t anticipate his Rare staying around the $17 mark for long.

There are close to 8,000 participants this run and there are less than 100 perfect records after yesterday where only 33% earned a victory. This means that if you have at least six (6) wins, you have a shot at landing in the top 200, but things change quickly in the Fast Break streets so we’ll see how the remaining four (4) days go. Let’s dive into the specifics.

Today’s Objective(s):

Fast Break Day 9 requires five (5) players who will cash in 15 free throws and distribute 25 assists, which means your lineup will need an average of 3.0 FTM and 5.0 AST per player. There are a number of players who are proficient in both objectives and others who excel in one or the other. Players like James Harden will be used quite heavily and based on his last ten games, Jayson Tatum is also someone who looks to deliver for both stat lines. Between the two objectives, assists will likely be the hurdle as free throws should be a relatively easy one to secure (hopefully).

  • Little of Both: James Harden

  • Charity Stripers: Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler, DeMar DeRozan, James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, Anthony Edwards, Cam Thomas, RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, De'Aaron Fox

  • Distributors: Tyrese Haliburton, James Harden, Domantas Sabonis, Dennis Schroder

  • Top Five (5) Players in Lineups: J. Harden (80%), T. Haliburton (57%), J. Butler (49%), J. Embiid (32%), D. Sabonis (28%)

Upcoming Objective(s):

  • Tomorrow, 5 blocks & 5 steals will be the objectives and 18 teams are in action

  • Objectives after Today: BLK, STL, AST-TO, PTS, 3PM

Considerations:

  • Milwaukee has only one game remaining (Day 11)

  • Nine (9) teams have three (3) games remaining over the final four (4) days

  • No teams are playing the tail end of a back-to-back

  • Boston & Miami are the only two teams not playing on final day

  • Day 12 have 20 or more teams in action

  • Day 11 is the always volatile and difficult to predict Assists minus Turnovers objective

  • Aside from Day 11, every day requires two objectives

Statistical Approach:

Top players in projected Free Throws Made & Assists according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ subscribers, projected rest-of-season stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Tome Society’s Fast Break Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as Tome Society participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

Another day where it came down to the last quarter of the last game of the day before we were able to confirm we squeaked by with a win. That makes six and solidifies our four total Grail Hunter packs. Day 9 will require some tweaking considering Luka is out and Butler ins questionable considering we will need to win 3 of 4 remaining days to earn the top tier reward. Going for win #7 tomorrow!
