KAWHI, GARLAND HOLD OFF INDIANA IN A THRILLER

LA Clippers 114, Indiana Pacers 113

Indiana led by 24 early and lost by one. That's the Clippers right now. LA trailed 42-21 after the first quarter, then methodically clawed back through the next three periods to steal a result that has enormous implications for their play-in positioning. Kawhi Leonard was the engine all night — 28 points on 13-of-26 shooting, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and a +17. He made the pivotal plays down the stretch. Darius Garland added 30 on 10-of-19 shooting (6-of-11 from three), and the pick-and-roll partnership between the two is developing real chemistry at exactly the right time. Brook Lopez had 16 with 4 assists, and Bennedict Mathurin drew 10 fouls and went 12-of-15 from the line for 17.

Indiana had no answer for the comeback. Aaron Nesmith led the Pacers with 26 on 10-of-14 shooting (4-of-5 from three) at 87.4% true shooting, Obi Toppin came off the bench for 20 on 8-of-11 shooting (4-of-7 from three), and Andrew Nembhard had 13 and 10 assists. But Indiana turned it over 20 times against the Clippers' aggressive half-court defense, and LA converted 27 points off those miscues. LA's biggest lead was 3 — the whole fourth quarter was a knife fight — and the Clippers survived.

CLEVELAND GOES NUCLEAR, STRUS ERUPTS FROM THREE

Cleveland Cavaliers 149, Miami Heat 128

Donovan Mitchell was awful — 1-of-10 from the field, 25.5% true shooting, a -14 — and Cleveland still won by 21. That's how dominant this performance was from top to bottom. Max Strus came off the bench and went 8-of-11 from three (72.7%) for 29 points on 97.4% true shooting. James Harden had a double-double as he contributed 14 assists and 17 points. Cleveland led by 36 at their peak and outscored Miami 81-46 over the first two quarters and the outcome was more than settled at the halfway mark.

Miami had no answers. Tyler Herro shot 1-of-6 from three for 11 points and was -23. Bam Adebayo went 3-of-14 from the field (25 attempts including a whopping 8 threes) but only scored 14 points to go along with his 16 rebounds. The Heat had 128 points and still lost by 21 because Cleveland's offensive efficiency was extraordinary — 53.6% from the field, 46.3% from three as a team. This team is finding ways to win even without their best player and that could make for an interesting Eastern conference playoffs.

BOSTON HOLDS OFF ATLANTA, PRITCHARD GOES OFF

Boston Celtics 109, Atlanta Hawks 102

Boston fell behind by 16 in the first half and came all the way back, and the reason had a name: Payton Pritchard. The reserve guard came off the bench and scored 36 points on 13-of-23 shooting (6-of-11 from three) and 4-of-4 from the free throw line — 72.7% true shooting on an enormous volume night. Boston was trailing going into the third quarter, Pritchard went to work, and by the end of the third it was a different game entirely. The reigning 6th Man of the Year would be a frontrunner to repeat if he hadn’t become ineligible after starting 48 games, but he is contributing in a meaningful way off the bench. Jayson Tatum added 26 with 12 rebounds for a valuable double-double and Neemias Queta had 5 points and 11 rebounds in a quietly excellent performance.

Atlanta fought hard and looked to be in control. Jalen Johnson had 29 on 9-of-21 shooting (5-of-11 from three), 6 rebounds, and 6 assists in a losing effort — two strong outings against Boston this week. The Hawks actually had a 5.75 assist-to-turnover ratio as a team — just 4 turnovers all game. But they couldn't stop Pritchard in the third quarter when Boston needed it most. Boston improves to 49-25 and regains sole possession of the East's 2-seed while the Hawks fall to 6th in the East.

OKC BOUNCES BACK, BLOWS PAST CHICAGO

Oklahoma City Thunder 131, Chicago Bulls 113

A 22-point OKC run in the third quarter ended any drama. The Thunder had trailed at halftime and responded with the kind of defensive stranglehold that has defined their season. SGA had 25 on 8-of-24 shooting — a rough shooting night that he papered over with 9-of-12 from the line, 8 assists, and 3 blocks. Jalen Williams added 18 with 8 assists, Jaylin Williams double-doubled with 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench on 87.2% true shooting, and Isaiah Joe popped for 15 on 4-of-9 shooting (4-of-9 from three). The OKC bench scored 58 points.

Chicago's Tre Jones had the best individual line in this game but in a losing effort — 21 on 8-of-12 shooting (70.8% FG), 9 assists, 76.3% true shooting. Matas Buzelis had 15 and 9 rebounds and snapped his fifteen game streak of making at least two three pointers. But Oklahoma City found their rhythm and Chicago had no defensive answer. OKC moves to 58-17 and stays in control of the West's 1-seed.

DURANT COMMANDS HOUSTON'S WIN OVER MEMPHIS

Houston Rockets 119, Memphis Grizzlies 109

Kevin Durant was everything Houston needed — 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting (3-of-7 from three), 6 rebounds, and 10 assists, a genuine all-around double-double performance. He was the playmaker, the closer, and the defensive anchor when Memphis made runs in the third. Jabari Smith Jr. had 21 with 16 rebounds, Amen Thompson added 18 with 8 rebounds and 10 assists — a near-triple-double of his own, Tari Eason came off the bench for 16 with 7 rebounds, and Reed Sheppard had 15 points with 4 steals.

Memphis showed fight — Cam Spencer had 11 with 10 assists in a double-double, Javon Small chipped in 14 on 6-of-9 shooting — but Houston won the rebounding battle 68-43 and scored 16 second-chance points to put the game away. The Rockets move to 44-29 and maintain a firm grip on the 6-seed direct playoff spot in the West.

TORONTO ROLLS PAST NEW ORLEANS, BARNES DOMINATES

Toronto Raptors 119, New Orleans Pelicans 106

Scottie Barnes was the best player on the floor for the second time in as many games — 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting, 12 assists, and 3 blocks in a 13-point win. Barnes had 12 assists with just 4 turnovers — a 3:1 ratio that reflects how controlled he was as a playmaker. Jakob Poeltl backed him up with 18 on 9-of-11 shooting (81.8% FG) and 11 rebounds, Sandro Mamukelashvili came off the bench for 18 on 7-of-14 shooting (3-of-5 from three), and Brandon Ingram scored 13 points.

Toronto's defense locked down New Orleans in the first two quarters, leading by 22 before the Pelicans could find any rhythm. Zion Williamson had 22 on 9-of-13 shooting (74.5% TS) in another quietly impressive performance for a Pelicans team with nothing to play for in the standings. Saddiq Bey added 19 and Jordan Poole had 12 but shot just 3-of-12 overall. Toronto moves up to the 5-seed at 41-32 and keeps pace in a tight Eastern race.

JOKIC TRIPLE-DOUBLES, MURRAY DEALS AS DENVER PULLS AWAY

Denver Nuggets 135, Utah Jazz 129

Two of the best offensive performances of the night happened on the same team. Nikola Jokic had a 33-point, 15-rebound, 12-assist triple-double — 13-of-16 from the field (81.3%), including both threes he attempted, and 84.5% true shooting. Jamal Murray had 31 with 14 assists and 8-of-8 from the free throw line at 72.0% true shooting — a second-consecutive giant Murray performance after his 53-point night Wednesday. Together they combined for 64 points and 26 assists against a Utah team that shot 55.8% from the field and still fell short.

Utah was legitimately good in this game. Kyle Filipowski had 25 on 11-of-17 shooting, Cody Williams added 24 on 9-of-14 shooting, and John Konchar went 8-of-10 from the field for 16. Utah led by 14 in the third quarter — this was a genuine game, not a blowout. But Denver's fourth quarter was the definitive statement: they outscored Utah 37-24 in the final period, with Jokic and Murray combining for most of it. Denver is 47-28 — on an absolute tear — and their 4-seed position over Minnesota is looking increasingly secure and are only 1.5 games behind the Lakers for the 3rd seed.

FLAGG AND BAGLEY CARRY DALLAS PAST PORTLAND

Dallas Mavericks 100, Portland Trail Blazers 93

Portland turned the ball over 25 times and Dallas converted 33 points off those turnovers. That's the entire game. Cooper Flagg led Dallas with 24 on 9-of-17 shooting, 4 steals, and a steady two-way performance. Marvin Bagley III came off the bench and was excellent — 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting (3-of-5 from three) at 82.5% true shooting and Naji Marshall added 19 with 5 steals. Dallas played spoiler and showed positive signs for the future.

Portland's Deni Avdija had 20 but committed 5 turnovers himself, Donovan Clingan had 17 rebounds in 22 effective minutes but shot just 2-of-9 from the field, and Scoot Henderson was 3-of-11 for 9 points. Portland simply had too many mistakes in a game they needed — they're now 37-38, dropping below .500 for the first time in weeks, and are at risk of falling to 10th place as they only lead Golden State by 0.5 games.

GUI SANTOS AND PODZIEMSKI POWER GOLDEN STATE

Golden State Warriors 131, Washington Wizards 126

Golden State needed a fourth-quarter surge to survive Washington — they trailed by as many as 14 in the second half before outscoring the Wizards 39-32 in the fourth. Gui Santos had his second straight monster game — 27 on 8-of-12 shooting (3-of-5 from three) and 8-of-9 from the line at 84.6% true shooting. Brandin Podziemski double-doubled with 22 and 10 rebounds and Gary Payton II had 15 and 5 assists. Washington's Will Riley had 22 on 8-of-12 shooting (3-of-5 from three) at 82.6% TS for a losing side that put up 126 points and still fell short.

Golden State are 36-38 — and have the opportunity to host a play-in game if they leapfrog the struggling Trail Blazers. Steph Curry could make his return this season in the Play-In Tournament, which could give them the edge in moving onto playing either the Suns or the Clippers. This Washington team is a tough out and the Warriors had to fight for every point of this one.

LUKA HITS 12 STRAIGHT, LAKERS ROLL PAST BROOKLYN

Los Angeles Lakers 116, Brooklyn Nets 99

Twelve. Twelve consecutive games with 30 or more points. Luka Doncic scored 41 on 15-of-25 shooting (5-of-10 from three), 6-of-6 from the free throw line, and finished with a +19. He was dominant in the fourth quarter when Brooklyn briefly made it interesting — he took over and removed all doubt. Austin Reaves added 26 with 5 assists and 8 rebounds. Jaxson Hayes had 5 blocks. LAL led by 17 at their peak and cruised to an 17-point win. LeBron even assisted his son Bronny on his three pointer.

Brooklyn's Nic Claxton had 16 on 8-of-10 shooting in a clean performance inside, but the Nets were a -17 as a team and never had an answer for Luka's fourth quarter. The Lakers are 48-26 and firmly in the West's 3-seed, but only lead by 1.5 games. The MVP conversation around includes Luka, but Joker, SGA, and Wemby are all staking their claim for the award.

⭐ STAR OF THE NIGHT

Nikola Jokic | Denver Nuggets - 33 PTS | 13-16 FG | 15 REB | 12 AST | 84.5% TS | Triple-Double

The triple-double almost undersells it. Thirteen-of-sixteen from the field. Eighty-four-and-a-half percent true shooting. In a game where Utah shot 55.8% from the field and led by 14, Jokic was the reason Denver won. Murray had 31 with 14 assists on the same night. These two are operating at a level no other backcourt-big combination in basketball can match right now. The Nuggets have won five straight thanks to Joker and Murray.

💀 DUD OF THE NIGHT

Donovan Mitchell | Cleveland Cavaliers - 6 PTS | 1-10 FG | 25.5% TS | -14 | L

One-of-ten. Cleveland won by 21. To Mitchell's credit, he had 6 assists and 4 steals — he was functional defensively — but a 25.5% true shooting performance from the franchise cornerstone is alarming even when the team wins comfortably. He has now shot 1-of-10 one game and fouled out in another in consecutive games against the same Miami team. Something is off, and with the playoffs weeks away, it's worth watching.

QUICK TAKES

  • Luka's streak is at 12 consecutive 30-point games. There is no active debate about the MVP — he is the candidate.

  • Jokic 33 points, 15 rebounds, and 12. Murray 31 points and 14 assists. On the same team, on the same night. Denver has won 5 straight and they're peaking at the perfect moment.

  • Payton Pritchard 36 off the bench for Boston. That's a performance that belongs in the highlight reel — 13-of-23 shooting when Boston needed it most after falling behind by 16.

  • Max Strus 8-of-11 from three for 29. Cleveland won by 21 with their star guard shooting 1-of-10. That bench is a different kind of weapon.

  • Kevin Durant 25 and 10 assists for Houston. That double-double playmaking is a dimension of his game that doesn't get enough attention. When he's distributing like that, the Rockets are dangerous.

  • Portland is now 37-38 after 25 turnovers against Dallas. They've slipped below .500 and their play-in spot is suddenly in play. The Warriors’ win further complicates the Western Conference standings.

  • Cooper Flagg: 24 points and 4 steals as he continues to state his case for Rookie of the Year award. He's showing every night that he belongs as a focal point of this offense.

  • Scottie Barnes: 23 points, 12 assists, and 3 blocks on 75.1% TS. Two dominant games this week. He's playing like a franchise cornerstone.

  • The BOS-ATL game had 11 lead changes in the second half. Pritchard's third-quarter surge was the difference. Big win for Boston in the race for the 2-seed.
