NBA Recap | March 21, 2026

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 40 and Isaiah Hartenstein put up one of the most absurd stat lines of the season — 9 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists. Luka Doncic followed with 33 points in a one-point road win at Orlando — becoming the first player in NBA history to score 30+ in every game of a 9-game win streak, joining Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to average 40+ PPG over such a run. Darius Garland and Kawhi Leonard combined for 75 points (41 and 35 respectively) in an overtime classic in Dallas. Reed Sheppard had 23 points, 14 assists, and 4 steals as Houston held off Miami 123-122. Dyson Daniels went ballistic for 28 on 70.6% shooting to bounce back Atlanta's spirits after the Houston loss. Dylan Harper and Keldon Johnson combined for 48 points as San Antonio steamrolled Indiana. James Harden had 20 and 10 assists in Cleveland's comeback win. Milwaukee finally ended a skid, squeaking past Phoenix with Ryan Rollins going for 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. Ten games, all of them live. Let's run it.

SGA & HARTENSTEIN LEAD THUNDER PAST WIZARDS

Oklahoma City 132, Washington 111

The story was Shai, but the stat line you'll still be talking about tomorrow belongs to Isaiah Hartenstein: 9 points, 20 rebounds — 7 offensive — and 10 assists. A near triple-double where the points were the least interesting number. Hartenstein controlled every area of the paint — offensive rebounding, passing out of post catches, interior defense — in a performance that defines what a two-way center can mean to a title contender. Oklahoma City's bench contributed 47 points and Chet Holmgren double-doubled with 18 and 10 rebounds.

SGA continued his 20-plus-point streak in efficient fashion: 40 on 17-of-27 shooting, 63.0% from the field, 7 assists. He drew 7 fouls, got to the line 8 times, and was +11. Jared McCain added 18 with 4 threes. The Thunder led by 25 at one point and controlled this game after the first quarter.

Washington fought harder than the margin suggests — they kept it even through three quarters — but OKC's fourth-quarter outburst (29-15) sealed it. Bilal Coulibaly led the Wizards with 21 on 53.3% shooting, and Bub Carrington had 19 on 7-of-12. Alex Sarr bounced back from his nightmare Thursday with 14 and 8 assists — a much better showing.

LUKA & LEBRON MAKE HISTORY

Los Angeles Lakers 105, Orlando Magic 104

One point. Luka delivered again, this time with 33 on 12-of-30 shooting (40%), 8 assists, and 4 steals, going +10 in a game that came down to the wire. Luka went 6-of-9 from the line and drew 7 fouls. Austin Reaves had 26 on 10-of-20 shooting with 5 assists — the Lakers' second option delivered when needed.

With this win, Luka now owns the most historically decorated 9-game winning streak in NBA history. He's the first player ever to score 30 or more points in each game of a 9-game win streak, and he joins Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to average 40-plus points per game across such a run. The MVP conversation is no longer a conversation — it's a conclusion. If the season ended tonight, there is no reasonable argument for anyone else.

LeBron James played his 1,612th regular season NBA game, breaking the all-time record for most games played by a single player in league history. He had 12 points and 4 steals, efficient if quiet, as ever in his supporting role on this team. The record is his alone.

Orlando actually outscored LA 35-25 in the second quarter to take a lead and kept it through three quarters, outscoring the Lakers 57-44 in the first half. Paolo Banchero struggled from the field again — 4-of-14, 28.6% — but drew 8 shooting fouls and scored 16. Jalen Suggs had 14. Goga Bitadze was 3-of-3 from the field with 7 rebounds and 5 assists in limited minutes. But the Magic's 21-of-23 from the free throw line couldn't hold off Luka's fourth-quarter push, and the Lakers sealed their ninth straight win.

HARDEN AND MOBLEY LEAD CLEVELAND'S COMEBACK

Cleveland Cavaliers 111, New Orleans Pelicans 106

James Harden scored 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting, 4-of-9 from three, 10 assists, and a +14 that was the best mark on the floor. His double-double anchored a fourth-quarter surge that turned a 15-point deficit into a win: Cleveland trailed by 15 in the third before outscoring New Orleans 35-18 in the fourth. Donovan Mitchell added 27 and Sam Merrill double-doubled with 15 and 10 rebounds. Evan Mobley was more hunter than scorer but grabbed key rebounds during the run.

New Orleans had this game in their hands. Zion Williamson had one of his best nights of the season: 25 on 10-of-14 shooting (71.4%), 6 rebounds, and 69.6% true shooting. Saddiq Bey added 19 on 4-of-8 from three with 6 assists. But the Pelicans shot 30% from three in the second half and watched their defense collapse as Cleveland's fourth-quarter run materialized.

HOUSTON HOLDS OFF MIAMI BY ONE

Houston Rockets 123, Miami Heat 122

Reed Sheppard played the best game of his young career: 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting (5-of-8 from three), 14 assists, 4 steals, and 89.3% true shooting. He ran Houston's offense with surgical precision against a Miami team that wouldn't die. Amen Thompson double-doubled with 24 and 18 rebounds — 7 offensive while Alperen Sengun had 19 points and 12 boards. In total, three Houston players double-doubled in a one-point game.

Miami's Bam Adebayo was extraordinary in defeat: 32 on 12-of-21 shooting (including 2-of-4 from three), 21 rebounds — 5 offensive — and 65.3% true shooting. That's a top-10 performance this season by any player, and it came in a loss. Simone Fontecchio hit 5-of-9 from three for 21 off the bench and Tyler Herro scored 25 points. But Houston led by 8 late in the fourth and held on despite Miami generating the final run. Kevin Durant had 27 on 5-of-9 from three, including clutch perimeter shooting down the stretch. His 27 tonight pushed him past Michael Jordan into fifth place on the NBA's all-time regular season scoring list — a milestone that would be the headline of any normal Saturday.

SAN ANTONIO STEAMROLLS INDIANA

San Antonio Spurs 134, Indiana Pacers 119

San Antonio came out with a 42-29 first quarter and never looked back. Dylan Harper had 24 on 9-of-13 shooting (88.9% on twos), 100% from the line, with 78.9% true shooting — a dominating performance from the rookie. Keldon Johnson was equally efficient: 24 on 10-of-12 shooting (83.3%), including 2-of-3 from three. The Spurs scored 76 points in the paint, converted 24 fast-break points, and were 32-of-42 at the rim (76.2%). Wemby scored 20 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, accumulated 6 assists, and swatted 5 attempts to round out the Spurs’ biggest contributors in the win.

Indiana had Andrew Nembhard stepping up with 25 on 8-of-13 shooting (73.7% TS), 7 assists, and Jarace Walker delivering 21 off the bench on 8-of-10 shooting (5-of-7 from three). But the Pacers were outrebounded 59-32 and gave up 20 second-chance points. Indiana's defensive identity collapsed against San Antonio's physicality, and the result was never in doubt after the first frame.

DANIELS LEADS ATLANTA'S BOUNCE-BACK WIN

Atlanta Hawks 126, Golden State Warriors 110

Twenty-four hours after Houston snapped their 11-game win streak, Atlanta bounced back with a dominant home win. Dyson Daniels was the catalyst: 28 on 12-of-17 shooting (70.6%) — 2 of those from three — with 6 assists, 4 steals, and 78.3% true shooting. He was +35 and the engine of everything Atlanta did offensively, slashing through Golden State's defense all night. CJ McCollum had 23 on 62.5% shooting. NAW contributed 17 on 7-of-7 from the line, drawing 6 fouls.

Atlanta generated 38 points off Golden State's 21 turnovers — the most punishing turnover conversion rate of any team this week. The Hawks outscored Golden State 39-20 in the third quarter to turn a 1-point halftime advantage into a blowout. Nate Williams had 19 on 8-of-9 shooting off the Warriors' bench — the only Warrior bright spot — and Draymond Green had 13 and 4 assists. But Golden State's turnover problem is becoming a recurring issue. They are 2-8 in their last 10 games, but are still in the playoff picture, currently in 10th place and 7.5 games ahead of the Pelicans.

GARLAND AND KAWHI’S 75 IN DALLAS OVERTIME

LA Clippers 138, Dallas Mavericks 131 (OT)

After sitting out a game, Kawhi Leonard scored 34 on 12-of-22 shooting (5-of-9 from three), and the Clippers escaped Dallas in overtime, snapping a 4-game losing streak. But the night's signature performance belonged to Darius Garland: 41 points on 15-of-24 shooting — 8-of-12 from three (66.7%) — with 11 assists, 81.0% true shooting, and a +9 in a game that went the distance. Combined, Garland and Leonard had 75 points in the win. LA hit exactly 50% from three for the game (21-of-42) — a historic shooting display. Derrick Jones Jr. added 15 on 83.3% true shooting with 5 assists.

Dallas's Naji Marshall went for 28 on a relentless interior game, P.J. Washington had 21, and Marvin Bagley went 7-of-8 from the field for 17. Cooper Flagg had 18 with 10 rebounds and 8 assists — another well-rounded line — and 4 blocks. Klay Thompson hit all 4 of his three-point attempts for 12 off the bench. But the Mavericks' 9-point first quarter was too deep a hole, and Garland and Kawhi were too much to overcome in overtime.

PHILLY ROLLS IN UTAH

Philadelphia 76ers 126, Utah Jazz 116

Philadelphia rolled into Salt Lake City and won behind a collective performance. Quentin Grimes led with 25 on 9-of-15 shooting (70.9% TS) and 4 assists. VJ Edgecombe had 22 and 13 rebounds — his third double-double in four games. Trendon Watford came off the bench for 20 on 7-of-11 shooting with 9 rebounds. Philadelphia had 26 second-chance points on 16 offensive boards and 27 fast-break points — a punishing transition and second-chance game.

Utah's Ace Bailey led with 25 (5 blocks) and Kennedy Chandler added 19, but the Jazz shot only 22.5% from three (9-of-40) and couldn't stop Philadelphia's interior avalanche. Utah drew 31 fouls and made 29 of 31 free throws — the most from any team this week — but it wasn't enough against a Sixers team playing with purpose. Utah's 40 three-point attempts that only produced 9 makes is a shot selection story worth watching.

LAMELO AND CHARLOTTE STAY HOT

Charlotte Hornets 124, Memphis Grizzlies 101

Charlotte shot 41.9% from three (18-of-43) and led by 26 at one point. LaMelo Ball had 29 on 7-of-14 shooting including 7-of-14 from three — an elite deep shooting display — with 4 assists and 3 steals. Brandon Miller hit 5-of-9 from three for 22 on 85.4% true shooting. Moussa Diabate had an all-around double-double: 11 points, 14 rebounds (6 offensive), 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a +21. Charlotte generated 23 second-chance points on 13 offensive boards. They've now shot 40%+ from three in back-to-back games — the offense is clicking at a different level right now. They currently sit in 10th, but they are only 2.0 games behind 6th place Atlanta.

Memphis was led by GG Jackson (19 pts, 50% from the field) and Javon Small (17), but the Grizzlies got outmuscled, outshot, and outrebounded. The absence of a reliable defensive identity showed again as Charlotte's shooters found space all night.

ROLLINS DOUBLE-DOUBLES AS BUCKS SURVIVE PHOENIX

Milwaukee Bucks 108, Phoenix Suns 105

Milwaukee's Ryan Rollins stepped into the spotlight with 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals — a double-double with playmaking and defensive contributions. Kyle Kuzma had 20 on 58.3% shooting and Jericho Sims came off the bench for 5 points and 11 rebounds, adding 3 assists and a pair of free throws in crunch time.

Phoenix shot 38.5% from three (15-of-39) and generated 27 second-chance points on 12 offensive rebounds — they were physical and competitive. Jalen Green had 24 on 52.9% shooting whereas Devin Booker struggled with 14 on 23.5% from the field. Milwaukee led by 9 in the second quarter before Phoenix erased it in a 42-26 second quarter, then the Bucks reasserted control in the third and held on. This is just Milwaukee's third win in their last 13 games, so this was an ugly loss for the Suns.

⭐ STAR OF THE NIGHT

Reed Sheppard | Houston Rockets 23 PTS | 8-12 FG | 5-8 3PT | 14 AST | 4 STL | 89.3% TS | +17

In a game decided by one point, Sheppard ran the offense cleanly, scored efficiently, and created for everyone around him. Fourteen assists on 8-of-12 shooting with only zero turnovers — that's a historically elite assist-to-turnover ratio. The 89.3% true shooting is the highest mark of any qualifying player tonight. Bam Adebayo's 32/21 in a loss is the most spectacular individual stat line, but Sheppard's performance won the game that mattered.

💀 DUD OF THE NIGHT

Devin Booker | Phoenix Suns 14 PTS | 4-17 FG | 23.5% FG | 36.5% TS | -3

Phoenix needed their franchise player in a close game and Booker went 4-of-17. His 23.5% field goal percentage was the worst mark of any starter on any team tonight. Two-of-twelve on twos. Jalen Green carried the offense — and while the Suns made it close, Booker's struggles in the first and fourth quarters left points on the table that Milwaukee ultimately kept. Three times in the last two weeks Phoenix has needed Booker to deliver in a close game and come up short from the field.

QUICK TAKES

  • Luka Doncic is the first player in NBA history to score 30+ in each game of a 9-game win streak. He joins Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to average 40+ PPG over such a run. At this point, the MVP award is his to lose — no one else in the league is having this kind of sustained impact.

  • LeBron James played game 1,612 of his regular season career tonight, breaking the all-time record for games played by a single player. He had 12 points and 4 steals. The quiet greatness of it all.

  • Kevin Durant passed Michael Jordan into fifth place on the NBA's all-time scoring list tonight. On a night with 60 other things happening, KD quietly passed one of the greatest scorers in history.

  • Isaiah Hartenstein: 9 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists. The points are the least interesting number on that line.

  • Kawhi Leonard and Darius Garland combined for 75 points and snapped a 4-game losing streak. Full strength, they're a threat to anyone.

  • Milwaukee is 3-10 in their last 13 games and continue to struggle with Giannis.

  • Reed Sheppard's 14 assists and 4 steals in a one-point win is the quiet story of the week. This kid can run a team.

  • Zion Williamson had 25 on 71.4% shooting and still lost. That's how good Cleveland's fourth quarter was.

  • Charlotte has hit 40%+ from three in back-to-back games. The Hornets are building momentum and look to move up the standings.
