NBA Recap | April 8, 2026
Seven games. Detroit got their franchise player back. OKC kept rolling. Jokic posted a quiet triple-double. Booker scored 37 for the second straight night. And Orlando's bench scored 62 to take down Minnesota and move within 0.5 games out of the 6-seed. Let's run it.
Cavs Hold Off Hawks in a Slugfest
Cleveland Cavaliers 122, Atlanta Hawks 116
This one was earned. Cleveland trailed by as many as 11 in the second quarter, then orchestrated a 44-20 third quarter explosion to seize control — and had to survive a frantic Hawks fourth quarter push to close it out.
Evan Mobley was the engine. He finished with 22 points and 19 rebounds — a dominant, commanding performance on the glass — while protecting the paint with 3 blocks. Donovan Mitchell was Cleveland's offensive engine with 31 points on 12-of-19 shooting and 71.6 true shooting percentage. He couldn't miss around the rim: 11-of-15 on two-pointers and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. James Harden added 21 points, doing enough damage to keep Atlanta's defense from keying entirely on Mobley and Mitchell.
For Atlanta, Nickeil Alexander-Walker led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting including 4 threes. Onyeka Okongwu put up 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and Jalen Johnson posted a double-double — 12 points and 11 rebounds — despite a quiet offensive night. Dyson Daniels had 12 points and 6 assists with only 1 turnover in a quietly excellent two-way shift. But two Hawks players fouled out, and the third quarter simply undid everything Atlanta had built in the first half.
Cleveland improves to 51-29. Atlanta falls to 45-34, dropping a game they needed for breathing room, but they remain 5th in the East.

Cade Is Back, Pistons Roll Milwaukee
Detroit Pistons 137, Milwaukee Bucks 111
The best part of Wednesday night in Detroit wasn't the margin. It was who was in the lineup.
Cade Cunningham made his return after missing 11 games with a collapsed left lung — suffered March 17 when he dove for a loose ball and collided with Tre Johnson in Washington. In 26 minutes, he looked comfortable and sharp: 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds. The Detroit offense, which had already managed to go 8-2 without him and clinch the East's 1-seed, suddenly had its conductor back on the podium.
The rest of the Pistons took care of the rest. Jalen Duren was sensational — 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting (86.9 true shooting percentage) with 9 rebounds and 6 offensive boards, generating 8 second-chance points. Ronald Holland II came off the bench for 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, drilling 3-of-4 from three. Detroit's bench alone outscored Milwaukee's full team in the first half, and the Pistons led by as many as 31 in a game that was effectively over by halftime.
Milwaukee brought some fight. Ryan Rollins had 23 points, Ousmane Dieng added 17, and Jericho Sims put together a genuine triple-double — 11 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists — in a losing effort that deserved a better game around it. But the Bucks shot 34 percent from the floor in the first half and never made Detroit uncomfortable at any point.
Detroit improves to 58-22. Milwaukee falls to 31-49, with an offseason of uncertainty with their star looming.

Magic Bench Goes Off, Orlando Handles Minnesota
Orlando Magic 132, Minnesota Timberwolves 120
Orlando's bench scored 62 points. That does most of the explaining.
The Magic committed to interior pressure all night — 19 offensive rebounds leading to 28 second-chance points, 64 points in the paint, and 53.7 percent from the field as a team. Goga Bitadze was the best player on the floor in terms of overall impact: 14 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists, finishing possessions on both ends and giving Orlando a center presence that Minnesota had no answer for. Desmond Bane added 18 points and 6 assists in his second game with the team. Jalen Suggs drilled 3-of-5 from three for 11 efficient points, and Jevon Carter off the bench went 4-of-4 from the floor with 3 threes for 11 points, making every shot count.
Minnesota got a spectacular performance from Terrence Shannon Jr. — 33 points on 11-of-14 shooting, 71.4 percent from three — the most efficient shooting night of his season. Jaden McDaniels added 18 points. But the Timberwolves' defense got shredded on the offensive glass, and 16 Minnesota turnovers gave Orlando 26 points off takeaways that proved decisive.
Orlando improves to 44-36, keeping them within reach of the 6-seed. Minnesota falls to 47-33, but remaing 6th in the West.

Jokic Triple-Double, Nuggets Handle Memphis
Denver Nuggets 136, Memphis Grizzlies 119
Denver looked like the playoff contender they needed to be. After a second quarter where Memphis outscored them 39-31 to briefly hang around, the Nuggets closed with a 39-22 third quarter and never looked back.
Nikola Jokic posted a typically understated triple-double: 14 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists with 2 steals. He didn't need to carry the offense — Jamal Murray handled that with 26 points on 8-of-17 shooting, going 5-of-10 from three. Christian Braun attacked the rim relentlessly, going 7-of-10 with 6 fast-break points for 14 efficient points. Denver shot 58.9 percent from the floor as a team — 83.9 percent at the rim — and controlled the defensive glass with 43 defensive boards.
Memphis got useful contributions from Taylor Hendricks (16 points on 75 percent shooting) and Toby Okani (15 points, 4-of-7 from three), but the Grizzlies were outgunned whenever Denver turned the pace up. Memphis also accumulated three technical fouls between players and coaching staff, which speaks to the frustration of a 39-22 third quarter dismantling.
Denver improves to 52-28 and gets them closer to clinching the 3-seed. Memphis falls to 25-55.

Spurs Defense Smothers Portland
San Antonio Spurs 112, Portland Trail Blazers 101
San Antonio took care of business behind De'Aaron Fox and a suffocating defensive performance. Fox finished with 25 points on 10-of-20 shooting, 7 assists, and 3 steals — working in transition to the tune of 7 fast-break points — while Carter Bryant off the bench provided one of the night's most efficient shooting lines: 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting with 5-of-6 from three and a 94.4 true shooting percentage.
The Spurs generated 13 steals, produced 28 points off Portland's turnovers, and held the Blazers to just 10 bench points while their own reserves contributed 48. Luke Kornet off the bench was quietly excellent — 10 points, 6 assists, and 83.3 true shooting percentage. Dylan Harper added 13 points and continued to look like a foundational piece for San Antonio's future alongside Fox.
Portland's Toumani Camara was excellent — 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting with 6 assists and 3 steals — and Donovan Clingan posted a double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks. But Scoot Henderson needed 20 shots for 20 points, Jrue Holiday went 6-of-17, and Portland's 50 percent free throw shooting was a recurring backbreaker in a game they kept within reach at various stretches.
San Antonio improves to 61-19, 2nd in the West. Portland falls to 40-40, squarely in the Play-In Tournament.

OKC Locks Down Home Court
Oklahoma City Thunder 128, LA Clippers 110
OKC just keeps humming. The Thunder shot 57.8 percent from the floor, went a perfect 16-of-16 at the rim, and led by as many as 25 in a win that was settled by halftime.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ran the game in maestro mode — 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting with 11 assists and only 3 turnovers. He didn't need to score 30; the Thunder had too many weapons. Isaiah Joe off the bench went 6-of-9 with 4-of-7 from three for 21 points at 93.8 true shooting percentage. Jalen Williams was the other key piece — 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting with 6 assists and 6 fast-break points. Isaiah Hartenstein went 4-of-5 for 10 points and 7 rebounds in a tidy interior performance.
Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting and fought for every bucket, but OKC's defensive force was too much on the night. Brook Lopez added 16 points off the bench and Kobe Sanders went for 17, but the Clippers trailed by double digits for most of the second half and never had a realistic path back.
Oklahoma City improves to 64-16, which is the best record in the NBA. The Clippers fall to 41-39, but stay ahead of Portland in the Play-In Tournament.

Booker Erupts for 37 Again
Phoenix Suns 112, Dallas Mavericks 107
Devin Booker scored 37 on Tuesday. He scored 37 again on Wednesday. Back-to-back games, back-to-back 37-point performances, in the final week of the regular season — Booker is playing some of the best basketball of his career right now, and he dragged Phoenix to a 5-point win over a Dallas team that had no business keeping it this close.
Booker went 13-of-27 from the floor with 9 assists and got to the line 9 times, making every free throw. Dillon Brooks had the best supporting performance of his Phoenix tenure — 28 points on 11-of-22 shooting, drilling 4-of-5 from three. Royce O'Neale was clinical off the bench, going 5-of-7 with 4 threes for 14 points.
Dallas's bench nearly pulled off the upset. John Poulakidas went 8-of-12 from the floor including 5-of-8 from three for 23 points in a reserve performance that made the Suns sweat. Marvin Bagley III added 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting in a physical interior showing. Cooper Flagg had 11 points and 11 rebounds but was 4-of-18 from the floor — and that shooting inefficiency in a 5-point game is ultimately where the story ends for Dallas.
Phoenix improves to 44-36, with no chance at moving out of the Play-In Tournament, but they’ll have home court. Dallas falls to 25-55.

⭐ STAR OF THE NIGHT
Devin Booker | Phoenix Suns
Back-to-back 37-point performances to close the regular season. On Wednesday, Booker went 13-of-27 with 9 assists, hit every free throw attempt, and posted a 59.8 true shooting percentage while carrying a Suns team that needed every basket. He is playing the best basketball of his regular season, and the timing couldn't be better with Phoenix trying to lock up their play-in positioning.
💀 DUD OF THE NIGHT
Cooper Flagg | Dallas Mavericks
In a game Dallas needed and nearly stole, Flagg shot 4-of-18 from the floor for 11 points. He had 11 rebounds and 6 assists — the effort and IQ were there — but a 28.5 true shooting percentage in a 5-point loss was the difference between a win and an L. Flagg is going to be a star. He's just not quite there yet.
QUICK TAKES
Cade Cunningham returned from a collapsed lung and immediately posted a double-double in 26 minutes. Detroit is a different team with their franchise player available — and the playoffs are less than two weeks away.
Evan Mobley with 19 rebounds against a Hawks team fighting for playoff seeding. That's a performance that belongs in the MVP conversation.
Devin Booker back-to-back 37-point games to close the regular season. There's no defensive scheme for what he's doing right now.
Goga Bitadze with 15 rebounds and 6 assists as a center in a 12-point Magic win. Orlando is built differently, and it shows.
Nikola Jokic triple-double with 14 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists and nobody in the building panicked. That's what greatness normalized looks like.
De'Aaron Fox generating 3 steals and 7 fast-break points in a 11-point Spurs win. San Antonio's defense is fully locked in heading into the postseason.
Cooper Flagg at 4-of-18 in a 5-point Dallas loss. The creation is real. The shot-making has to catch up.
