WNBA Fast Break Classic |2025 Playoffs | Day 2
Today’s Objective(s): 10 Assists & 15 Rebounds
Overview:
The first round of the WNBA playoffs is a best of three format, which means Indiana and Seattle could be eliminated today. On the plus side, each team is playing in front of their home crowd, so it isn’t all doom and gloom. Should they earn the upset win, they’ll head back to their opponent’s home court for the deciding Game 3 of the first round.
As it pertains to Fast Break, your optionality will depend on the rarity of the moments you own of the players in action today. As a reminder, legendary moments have unlimited plays throughout the playoffs, but common/fandom and rare moments have limited usage for the remainder of the playoffs. If, for example, you’re limited to a single play of Nneke Ogwumike, and Seattle shocked the world and upset the Aces, she would no longer be available for the remainder of the playoffs all the way through the Finals. It means you’ll need to be deliberate about who you think will win each round and determine whether you want to save players or burn them.
If you have any legendary WNBA players available, it would be prudent to use them so long as they’re viable for each day’s objective. Keep in mind the win-based reward tops out at eight (8), but there are a maximum of 17 days total, which could be less depending on the number of games each round reaches.
There are two games on today’s slate and there are two games tomorrow with both days having the same objectives. Schedules and semifinal matchups will remain in flux until they’re not. For now, the only matchup that appears to be uncertain is New York and Phoenix — especially with Breanna Stewart’s injury. Based on how Game 1 went, anticipate Minnesota, Las Vegas, and Atlanta to close out their respective matchups sooner rather than later.
WNBA Recap: September 14th
Lynx Dominate Valkyries in Statement Win (MIN 101, GSV 72)
Minnesota opened their postseason with a commanding 101–72 win over Golden State at Target Center, showcasing why they’re the top seed. The Lynx led by 7 at halftime, but tipped the scales in their favor in the 3rd as they outscored Golden State by 14 points. Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride led the charge, while Minnesota’s bench contributed meaningful minutes late. The win marked the franchise’s largest playoff margin since 2017 and set the tone for a series they intend to close quickly.
Dream Hold Off Fever Behind Defensive Grit (ATL 80, IND 68)
Atlanta protected home court with an 80–68 win over Indiana, leaning on their defensive identity and balanced scoring. The Dream surged ahead early and maintained control, limiting the Fever to just 68 points—well below their season average. Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray paced the offense, but Indiana struggled to generate rhythm, shooting under 35% and failing to capitalize on second-chance opportunities. Atlanta now leads the series 1–0 and looks poised to advance.
Liberty Outlast Mercury in Overtime Thriller (NYL 76, PHO 69)
New York escaped Phoenix with a gritty 76–69 overtime win, despite committing 20 turnovers—one shy of their season high. Natasha Cloud led the Liberty with 23 points, while Breanna Stewart added 18 before exiting late with a knee injury sustained on an and-1 layup. Leonie Fiebich hit a clutch three in OT to seal the win, and New York’s defense held Phoenix to 33% shooting and just 6-of-26 from deep. Kahleah Copper led the Mercury with 15 points, but Phoenix couldn’t overcome a late 8–0 Liberty run. They now hold home-court advantage heading home for Game 2.
Aces Extend Win Streak to 17 with Rout of Storm (LVA 102, SEA 77)
Las Vegas continued their dominant stretch with a 102–77 blowout over Seattle, marking their 17th straight win and improving to 7–0 in first-round games under Becky Hammon. A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young combined for 47 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists, while Jewell Loyd, Cheyenne Parker, and Dana Evans added 34 off the bench. The Aces led by 20 at halftime and cruised through the second half, with starters resting by the five-minute mark. Seattle, outplayed in every facet, must regroup quickly to avoid a repeat of last year’s first-round sweep.
Fast Break Results: Day 1
94% of Fast Break participants earned a win. A’ja Wilson, utilized in 46% of lineups, had the best performance of the bunch as she knocked down 10 of 18 from the field. With her performance, she earned the Fast Break Star of the Day. Of the top five players, none grossly underperformed, so there were no Duds on the Day. Anticipate this to be an anomaly beyond the first round though.
Round 1: Best of Three Series
Indiana Fever @ Atlanta Dream | 7:30PM ET | 11:30AM UTC (ATL 1-0)
Game 2 tips off at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the No. 3 Atlanta Dream aim to sweep the first-round series against the No. 6 Indiana Fever. Atlanta enters as the favorite after a strong Game 1 showing, powered by Rhyne Howard’s perimeter dominance and Brionna Jones’s interior control. Indiana will lean on Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell to extend the series, but with Atlanta’s defense holding opponents to under 80 points in four of their last five, the Dream are projected to close out the series and advance to the semifinals.
Seattle Storm @ Las Vegas Aces | 9:30PM ET | 1:30AM UTC (LVA 1-0)
Later at Climate Pledge Arena, the No. 2 Las Vegas Aces face the No. 7 Seattle Storm in Game 2 of their first-round matchup. Las Vegas holds the edge with a 10-game win streak and a league-best 49.1% shooting clip over their last ten outings. A’ja Wilson continues her MVP-caliber run, while Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray provide perimeter firepower. Seattle, led by Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins, will need a near-flawless performance to stay alive. With Vegas dominating both ends of the floor, the Aces are projected to sweep and move on.
