WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 10 | Day 9

Today’s Objective(s): 25 Field Goals Made & 50 Field Goal Attempts

Overview:

We’ve reached the final day of the final regular season run of the 2025 WNBA Season. It has been an exciting season with interesting storylines including Paige Buecker’s arrival, Alyssa Thomas’s masterclass in triple-doubles, Las Vegas’s ongoing win streak, Golden State becoming the first expansion to make the playoffs, Minnesota’s dominance, and many more.

In Fast Break, we hit our stride in terms of rewards and structure about the midway point of the season and each one delivered engaging rewards for those interested in the W. Although there were about a third of the participants relative to the NBA iteration, the number of participants rose overall. For many, Fast Break was a gateway to the W and many players became household names beyond Caitlin, Angel, and Paige. As such, there is rising interest and familiarity with the WNBA, which bodes well for their future.

Today is the finale of the regular season and there continues to be storylines worth following for seeding. Of the eight playoff spots, only the 1, 4, and 5 seeds have been finalized. Las Vegas looks to continue their incredible win streak against the recently eliminated Sparks team and a win will help them secure the #2 seed. Kelsey Plum, who was traded to the Sparks in the offseason from the Aces, is in unfamiliar territory as she was part of multiple champion teams in Vegas.

There are four games on today’s slate and there continues to be playoff implications for many of them. Let’s review the outcome of yesterday’s single game, highlight the results of WNBA Fast Break, and preview today’s games along with their playoff implications.

WNBA Score(s): September 10th

Dream Close Regular Season with Commanding Win Over Sun (Atlanta 88, Connecticut 72)

Atlanta capped off its regular season with an emphatic double digit road win over Connecticut at Mohegan Sun Arena, securing their 30th victory and extending their win streak to seven. The Dream came out firing, dropping 31 points in the first quarter and never relinquishing control. Atlanta had five players in double figures, including Howard, Jones, Gray, Griner, & Coffey, as many of their starters were benched to preserve them for the playoffs once the game was out of reach for the Sun.

Although Connecticut showed flashes of resistance as the Sun scored 30 points in the third quarter, but only scoring 28 points in the entire first half was too much to overcome. Marina Mabrey, Aneesah Morrow, & Saniya Rivers all scored double figures to conclude their season. With the win, Atlanta will either be the 2nd or 3rd seed for the playoffs depending on the outcome of the Aces & Sparks game today.

Recap: Day 8

Yesterday was the second to worst overall win rate as only 28% of Fast Break participants earned a win. Atlanta won by a comfortable margin even though they pulled their starters relatively early. Brionna Jones, for example, only played 16 minutes out of 40 and as a result was limited to 2 rebounds & 1 assist. With her performance in her limited playing time, she earned the Fast Break Dud of the Day.

On the other hand, Allisha Gray only played 20 minutes, but was able to accumulate 2 rebounds & 5 assists. As she was the highest scoring player today based on the objectives needed, she earned the Fast Break Star of the Day.

Today’s Matchups & Playoff Implications:

New York Liberty (26-17) @ Chicago Sky (10-33) | 8:00PM ET | 12:00AM UTC

At Wintrust Arena, the New York Liberty face the Chicago Sky with a commanding 78.3% win probability. New York, already locked into the 5th seed, will use this matchup to fine-tune rotations and build momentum heading into the postseason. Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones continue to lead the charge, while Chicago—eliminated from playoff contention—leans on Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese to close the season with grit. With the Liberty’s depth and playoff urgency, they’re projected to control the tempo and secure a decisive win.

Phoenix Mercury (27-16) @ Dallas Wings (9-34) | 8:00PM ET | 12:00AM UTC

At College Park Center, the Phoenix Mercury take on the Dallas Wings with a 62.9% win probability. Phoenix, already confirmed with the 4th seed, look to close out the season with momentum going into the playoffs where they’ll face the defending champion Liberty. Dallas, on a 12-game skid and missing key contributors, will lean on Paige Bueckers for offensive spark. With the Wings struggling to contain elite offenses and Phoenix surging, the Mercury are projected to dominate the glass and close the season strong.

Golden State Valkyries (23-20) @ Minnesota Lynx (33-10) | 8:00PM ET | 12:00AM UTC

At Target Center, the Minnesota Lynx host the Golden State Valkyries in a matchup that favors the Lynx with a 76.3% win probability. Minnesota has already clinched the league’s best record but remains focused on postseason rhythm. Kayla McBride and Courtney Williams continue to anchor the league’s top defense, while Golden State—still fighting for seeding—will rely on Temi Fagbenle and Veronica Burton to keep pace. Should Golden State pull off the upset, they’ll move up to the 6th seed pushing Indiana to 7th. With a loss, the Valkyries will fall to the 8th seed and will face the Lynx in the first round, which will secure the 6th seed for Indiana and the 7th seed for Seattle. With Minnesota’s home dominance and playoff form peaking, the Lynx are projected to close the regular season with authority.

Las Vegas Aces (29-14) @ Los Angeles Sparks (21-22) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00AM UTC

Closing out the night at Crypto.com Arena, the Las Vegas Aces visit the Los Angeles Sparks with an 83.2% win probability. A’ja Wilson continues her MVP-caliber campaign, supported by Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young, as Vegas pushes to secure the No. 2 seed. The Sparks, recently eliminated from playoff contention, will need standout performances from Dearica Hamby and Rickea Jackson to stay alive to snap the Aces’ win streak and bump them to the 3rd seed. With Vegas riding a 15-game win streak and postseason form peaking though, the Aces are projected to overpower L.A. and lock in their bracket position.
