WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 9 | Day 8

Today’s Objective(s): 25 Rebounds & 10 Free Throws Made

Overview:

We are down to the final two days of this run and with yesterday’s result, there are 49 collectors who remain perfect. For anyone with at least four (4) wins, there is still a chance to earn the mid-tier reward which requires six wins. Very achievable considering there have only been two days where the majority did not earn a win.

With yesterday’s results, Phoenix officially secured their postseason spot and continue to jockey for seeding. With Golden State’s win over Indiana, they moved from postseason bubble to 6th place with five games to go. Los Angeles are currently sitting in 9th, but they have the most games remaining as they have six games left including today. The result today against Seattle will have major implications to their playoff probability.

WNBA Score(s): August 31st

Sparks Survive Mystics Rally Behind Plum’s Fourth-Quarter Surge (LAS 81, WAS 78)

Kelsey Plum erupted for 14 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter, powering the Sparks past the Mystics to keep their postseason hopes alive. Dearica Hamby added 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Rickea Jackson chipped in 16 as Los Angeles snapped a two-game skid and moved to 18–20. Washington, led by Kiki Iriafen’s 22-point, 13-rebound double-double, clawed back from a 12–0 deficit and briefly took the lead in the fourth. But Plum’s back-to-back threes and clutch free throws sealed the win, keeping the Sparks within striking distance of the final playoff spot.

Valkyries Clamp Down Fever to Sweep Season Series (GSV 75, IND 63)

Golden State tightened its grip on a playoff spot with a huge win over Indiana, completing a 3–0 season sweep. The Valkyries held the Fever to just 31 second-half points and dominated the glass, extending their 12-point halftime lead into a double-digit win. Iliana Rupert led the way in scoring as she poured on 21 points while Veronica Burton chipped in 13 assists. Indiana, coming off a dramatic win in Los Angeles, couldn’t find rhythm offensively and fell to 21–19, now trailing Golden State in the standings with just a handful of games left.

Recap: Day 7

Day 7 was only the second day this run where less than 50% of Fast Break participants earned a win as only 40% walked away unscathed. Veronica Burton was utilized in 45% of lineups and had the highest volume of assists as she delivered 13, which accounted for 87% of the day’s objective. Kelsey Plum, on the other hand, was the 5th most utilized player, but had a more balanced contribution with 7 assists and 3 three pointers. As three pointers were the determining factor between a win and a loss, Kelsey is your Fast Break Star of the Day.

Julie Allemand was the most utilized player as 72% had her in their lineups, but she had only 3 assists and sank no three pointers. With her poor performance, she earned the Fast Break Dud of the Day award.

Today’s Matchups:

Atlanta Dream (25-14) @ Connecticut Sun (10-29) | 12:00PM ET | 4:00PM UTC

At Mohegan Sun Arena, the Atlanta Dream face the Connecticut Sun in a matchup that tilts heavily toward the visitors with an 81.7% win probability. Allisha Gray and Brionna Jones continue to anchor Atlanta’s playoff-bound offense, while Connecticut leans on veteran Tina Charles to keep things competitive. With the Dream chasing a top-three seed and the Sun struggling to generate consistent scoring, Atlanta is projected to control tempo and extend its late-season surge.

Dallas Wings (9-31) @ Minnesota Lynx (31-8) | 8:00PM ET | 12:00AM UTC

Later at Target Center, the Minnesota Lynx host the Dallas Wings in a lopsided contest with a 90% win probability favoring the Lynx. Napheesa Collier, Kayla McBride, and Courtney Williams lead a Minnesota squad that ranks first in defensive rating and second in net efficiency. Dallas has some notable injuries as Arike Ogunbowale and Haley Jones are ruled out whereas Paige Bueckers is questionable. With the Wings on a seven-game skid and Minnesota undefeated at home since July, the Lynx are projected to dominate.

Los Angeles Sparks (18-20) @ Seattle Sparks (22-19) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00AM UTC

Closing out the night at Climate Pledge Arena, the Seattle Storm host the Los Angeles Sparks with a 68.7% win probability. Seattle’s quartet of All-Stars—Nneka Ogwumike, Skylar Diggins, Gabby Williams, and Brittney Sykes—has powered a two-game win streak and tightened their grip on a playoff spot. The Sparks, led by Kelsey Plum and Rickea Jackson, won their previous game, but will need a near-perfect outing to stay in the hunt. With Seattle’s defensive edge and home-court momentum, the Storm are projected to close out the holiday slate with a win.
