WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 9 | Day 5

Today’s Objective(s): 7 Three Pointers Made & 15 Three Point Attempts

Overview:

We have officially reached the midway point of this run with five days to go (including today). With each passing day, the playoff picture progresses and there is a clear divide between seeds 2-5 and 6-8. Although Las Vegas has secured their playoff spot, their seeding is far from clear. All teams have between four to eight games remaining and each one has playoff implications.

Las Vegas has a one game lead over Phoenix for the second seed, but a couple of losses could drop them all the way to 5th. New York had the #2 seed for most of the season, but are currently on the outside looking in for home court advantage. Of their five remaining games, four of five are against teams pushing for a playoff spot.

Indiana & Seattle have the inside track to securing a playoff berth whereas Golden State, Los Angeles, and Washington are in a tight battle for the 8-seed. Of the three, Washington has the lowest probability as they have 5 more losses than Golden State. They would need to win all five of their remaining games to hold onto their slim playoff odds.

Connecticut, Chicago, and Dallas are officially eliminated, so they’re playing spoiler from here on out. Keep in mind players in your collection who are on a playoff team will continue to hold Fast Break value. If, for example, you want to add a Paige Bueckers rookie moment to your collection, you are better off waiting until after the regular season at this point (but ideally in the offseason).

If you have historical players in your collection, be sure to set your lineups before the 15 games begin. Don’t know who to start? Be sure to check today’s historic Fast Break run article.

WNBA Score(s): August 28th

Liberty Lock Down Mystics in Defensive Showcase (NYL 89, WAS 63)

New York tightened its grip on the No. 3 seed with a commanding 89–63 win over Washington, holding the Mystics to just 29 second-half points. Breanna Stewart led the Liberty with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while Sabrina Ionescu added 15 and orchestrated the offense with precision. The Liberty shot 50% from the field and forced 17 turnovers, suffocating Washington’s rhythm from the second quarter onward. With the win, New York improved to 23–15 and swept the season series.

Storm Stun Lynx with Road Offensive Burst (SEA 93, MIN 79)

Seattle delivered one of its most complete road performances of the season, upsetting the league-leading Lynx 93–79. The Storm outscored Minnesota 34–17 in the third quarter, flipping a halftime deficit into a double-digit lead. Skylar Diggins led Seattle with 23 points, while Nneka Ogwumike added 12 and 9 rebounds and Courtney Williams contributed 18 points and 10 assists. Minnesota, despite 20 points from Kayla McBride, couldn’t recover from the third-quarter collapse and lost by 14 points.

Mercury Hold Off Sky in Fourth-Quarter Flurry (PHO 83, CHI 79)

Phoenix extended its win streak to three with a victory over Chicago, surviving a late push led by Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. Kahleah Copper hit a clutch three with 2:28 left, and Alyssa Thomas added two key buckets in the final minutes to preserve the win. Reese finished with 15 points and 20 rebounds, while Cardoso added 14 and 5 assists. Phoenix improved to 24–14, maintaining its hold on the No. 4 seed, while Chicago dropped to 9–29.

Recap: Day 4

Day 4 turned out to be a positive day for most as 87% earned a win on the day. Ezi Magbegor was the most utilized player and contributed 7 rebounds & 5 blocks, which covered 28% of the rebounds & 125% of the needed blocks. With her performance, she earned the Fast Break Star of the Day.

Of the top five, none grossly underperformed so there were no Duds on the Day.

Today’s Matchups:

Dallas Wings (9-30) @ Atlanta Dream (24-14) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC

At Gateway Center Arena, the Atlanta Dream host the Dallas Wings in a matchup that heavily favors the home team with an 88.3% win probability. Atlanta’s Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard continue to lead a fast-paced offense that ranks among the league’s most efficient in transition. Dallas, still without Arike Ogunbowale, leans on rookie Paige Bueckers, who remains their primary scoring option. With the Wings struggling to close games and Atlanta pushing for a top-four seed, the Dream are projected to dominate both ends of the floor.

Indiana Fever (20-18) @ Los Angeles Sparks (17-19) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00AM UTC

Later tonight at Crypto.com Arena, the Los Angeles Sparks face the Indiana Fever in a tightly matched contest with playoff implications. L.A. holds a slight edge with a 54% win probability, having won the last meeting 100–91 behind Rickea Jackson’s 25-point performance. Indiana counters with Aliyah Boston, fresh off a 27-point outing, and Kelsey Mitchell, who’s averaging 23.1 points over her last ten games. With Caitlin Clark and multiple Fever guards sidelined, the Sparks’ depth and perimeter shooting give them the projected advantage in this fourth and final regular-season meeting.
