WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 8 | Day 8

Today’s Objective(s): 25 Rebounds & 10 Free Throws Made

Overview:

We are down to the final three days where things typically begin to tighten up if they haven’t already. The last three days will three games apiece, so your options aren’t super limited but of course that depends on the depth of your collection and who you’ve used to date.

Yesterday was a good day for the majority as 72% earned a win, but 17 collectors lost their perfect streak for this run which brings us to 45 left standing. So long as you have at least four wins, you still have a chance at the mid-tier reward which historically delivers a chance at a new rare WNBA moment. The last 7-win pack was selling in the marketplace for $60+ at one point but has settled around the $30 mark today.

Note that historical Fast Break is another opportunity to earn rewards, so be sure to set those lineups too. Note that the window between games has shrunk considerably, so don’t inadvertently forget to set it. Don’t know who to start? Be sure to check today’s article for Day 3 of the historic Fast Break run.

WNBA Score(s): August 21st

Sun Clamp Down Mystics in Defensive Showcase (CON 67, WAS 56)
Connecticut held Washington to just 56 points, leaning on disciplined defense and timely scoring. The Sun, earning their 8th win on the season, controlled the tempo and limited the Mystics’ perimeter looks. Washington’s offense stalled in the second half, and Connecticut capitalized with a balanced attack to secure the home victory.

Sky Shock Liberty in Brooklyn Upset (CHI 91, NYL 85)
In one of the season’s biggest statistical upsets, the Chicago Sky stunned the New York Liberty despite entering with just eight wins and a mere 11% win probability. Chicago’s offense clicked early and held firm late, handing New York its 14th loss and disrupting the Liberty’s push for a top-two seed. The Liberty, favored by double digits, couldn’t recover from defensive lapses and cold shooting stretches.

Dream Edge Lynx in Nail-Biter (ATL 75, MIN 73)
Atlanta outlasted Minnesota in a tightly contested battle that came down to final possessions. The Dream’s late-game execution and defensive stops proved decisive, handing the Lynx just their seventh loss of the season. Atlanta’s win keeps them in the hunt for a top-three playoff seed, while Minnesota missed a chance to widen its lead atop the standings.

Aces Dominate Mercury to Extend Win Streak (LAS 83, PHO 61)
Las Vegas cruised past Phoenix by a comfortable margin, extending their win streak to nine and tightening the race for a top-three seed. The Aces shot 50% from the field and held the Mercury to just 33.3%, showcasing elite two-way efficiency. Jackie Young led the charge early, and A’ja Wilson anchored the defense as Vegas improved to 23–14, overtaking Phoenix in the standings.

Recap: Day 7

Day 7 was filled with upsets as Connecticut, Chicago, and Atlanta prevailed over their counterparts. Although Connecticut won by double digits against a decent Mystics teams, Marina Mabrey was not much of a factor on the scoring front as Tina Charles led the way. Although she was the 4th most utilized player, she made no outside shots and only took two attempts. She was also the only top five player without a single make, so she is your Fast Break Dud of the Day. Both Loyd & Whitcomb only had a single make, so not a great showing out of the top five.

On the other hand, Rhyne Howard took the most attempts from outside the arc and was one of two players out of the top five who exceeded the needed threshold of 1.4 per player (Allisha Gray was the other), but she also had the most attempts which contributed to overall ranking. With her performance, she earned the Fast Break Star of the Day.

Today’s Matchups:

Minnesota Lynx (28-7) @ Indiana Fever (19-16) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC

At Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Minnesota Lynx take on the Indiana Fever in a Rivals Week spotlight game. Minnesota enters as the clear favorite with a 69.9% win probability, but they recently lost a close matchup against Atlanta yesterday. As Napheesa Collier was upgraded to questionable yesterday (but ultimately did not play), there is a chance she makes her return today. Indiana counters with Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, both capable of swinging momentum, but the Fever’s recent inconsistency makes Minnesota the projected winner in this playoff-tinged clash

Seattle Storm (18-18) @ Dallas Wings (9-27) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC

Seattle visits College Park Center to face the Dallas Wings, with the Storm holding a commanding 76% win probability. Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins continue to anchor Seattle’s balanced attack, while Dallas leans heavily on rookie Paige Bueckers, who’s fresh off a 44-point performance. With Arike Ogunbowale still sidelined and the Wings struggling to close games, Seattle is expected to control tempo and secure a key road win, but I would not rule out the streaky, scrappy Wings team.

Golden State Valkyries (18-17) @ Phoenix Mercury (21-14) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00AM UTC

In Phoenix, the Mercury host the Golden State Valkyries in their fourth meeting of the season. Phoenix won the most recent clash 98–91 behind Kahleah Copper’s 25 points, and they enter tonight with home-court advantage and a top-five rebounding unit led by Alyssa Thomas. Golden State will look to Veronica Burton, who dropped 24 in the last matchup, but injuries to Kayla Thornton and Monique Billings limit their depth. With both teams fighting for Western Conference positioning, Phoenix’s scoring edge and interior control make them the projected favorite.
