WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 7 | Day 1

Today’s Objective(s): 4 Blocks & 40 Points in the Paint

Overview:

New run means a fresh start. Compared to the previous run, this one will be one day longer (11 days), but the low and mid-tier win-based rewards remain static, which means you have a little more wiggle room if you’re pursuing the 7-win reward. The daily and run-based rewards remain static as well. There are three days where there are 10 teams in action and three days where only 2 teams are in action. Look ahead, plan accordingly, and earn some rewards.

WNBA Score(s):

Valkyries Edge Mystics in Defensive Nail-Biter (GSV 68, WAS 67)

Golden State escaped CareFirst Arena with a one-point win that came down to the final possession. The Valkyries leaned on Temi Fagbenle’s early efficiency and Veronica Burton’s floor leadership to build momentum, while Washington countered with Sonia Citron’s shot-making and Shakira Austin’s interior presence. Neither team led by more than six in the second half, and the final minute saw missed opportunities on both ends. In a game defined by defensive grit and half-court execution, Golden State’s late stop sealed the deal. For the Valkyries, it’s a road win that brings them back to .500 and steadies their playoff footing—and a reminder that margins matter in August.

Today’s Matchups:

Phoenix Mercury (16-10) vs Atlanta Dream (16-11) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC

Phoenix heads to Gateway Center Arena to face Atlanta. The Mercury enter as slight favorites, leaning on Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas to control pace and exploit Atlanta’s interior gaps. The Dream, still adjusting to Rhyne Howard’s absence, will rely on Allisha Gray and Brionna Jones to keep the offense flowing. With both teams battling for playoff seeding, Phoenix’s depth and road poise give them the projected edge.

New York Liberty (17-9) vs Connecticut Sun (4-21) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC

New York visits Connecticut in a matchup that tilts heavily toward the Liberty. Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu headline a squad looking to rebound from recent losses, while the Sun continue to lean on Tina Charles for scoring and leadership. With Connecticut struggling to close games and New York boasting superior ball movement and perimeter shooting, the Liberty are expected to cruise to a comfortable win.

Golden State Valkyries (13-13) vs Chicago Sky (7-19) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC

Golden State travels to Wintrust Arena to take on the Sky, with the Valkyries entering as thematic favorites. Temi Fagbenle and Carla Leite anchor Golden State’s balanced attack, while Chicago leans on Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso to control the glass. With the Sky on a six-game skid and the Valkyries trending upward, Golden State is projected to take control early and secure the win.

Indiana Fever (15-12) vs Dallas Wings (8-20) | 7:30PM ET | 11:30PM UTC

Dallas hosts Indiana in a rematch of their June 27 thriller, with the Fever holding a 2–0 edge in the season series. Kelsey Mitchell remains red-hot, while Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers headline Dallas’s dynamic backcourt. With Caitlin Clark still sidelined, Indiana will lean on Aari McDonald’s recent scoring surge to maintain momentum. Despite Dallas’s home-court energy, Indiana’s cohesion and offensive rhythm make them the projected favorite

Los Angeles Sparks (11-15) vs Seattle Storm (16-11) | 10:00PM ET | 2:00AM UTC

In Seattle, the Storm welcome the Sparks in a late-night West Coast clash. Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins lead a disciplined Seattle squad that ranks second in defensive rating. Los Angeles, fresh off their loss against the Aces which snapped their five-game win streak, will look to build on Cameron Brink’s return and Dearica Hamby’s interior dominance. With Seattle’s home-court edge and defensive structure, the Storm are favored to close out the night with a win.

Today’s Objective(s): Day 1

You’ll need five (5) players who will accumulate 4.0 or more blocks and 40.0 or more points in the paint, which means each player will need to average 0.8 BLK & 8.0 PITP.

These two objectives are not often correlated as these occur on opposite ends of the floor. There are some players who are capable of delivering on both objectives (Boston & Griner), but many will take a moneyball approach to utilize specialists in one objective or the other. It’s a new run, so the world is your oyster and you can include anyone in your collection. Be mindful of the days ahead where player options are limited though.

Top Player Options:

  • Little of Both: Aliyah Boston, Brittney Griner

  • Shot Blockers: Ezi Magbegor, Jonquel Jones, Brittney Griner, Aliyah Boston, Cameron Brink, Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Natasha Mack

WNBA Fast Break Grid

It's essential to consider the opponents, recent performance, and any injury updates before finalizing your Fast Break lineup. Additionally, staying up to date on the latest news and adjusting your roster accordingly will enhance your chances of earning a win today.

WNBA Key Dates:

  • September 11: Regular Season Ends

  • September 14-October 17: WNBA Playoffs

Power Rankings (Week 9):

There are 44 games in a WNBA Season, so teams have anywhere between 17-20 games remaining. This means there are plenty of opportunities to make a run and rise in the rankings. Over the past week, the Sparks have gone 3-0 and 7-3 in their last 10 as they are making a push for one of the coveted playoff spots. Between 4th & 10th, there are only 4 games separating the bunch so every game will matter, but especially the head-to-heads. Chicago, Dallas, & Connecticut are the most likely to not make the cut, but they could have a stretch similar to what we’re seeing in L.A. They’re running out of time though.
