WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 4 | Day 10

Today’s Objective(s): 15 Assists minus Turnovers

Recap & Overview:

Lynx Close Strong, Outlast Valkyries (Lynx 82, Valkyries 71)

Minnesota is back to the team that has continued to dominate all season. Napheesa Collier led the way for the Lynx as she scored 22 points and gather 6 rebounds. Golden State also had good production as Tiffany Hayes, Kayla Thornton, and Stephanie Talbot all contributed double-digit points.

Although Golden State has shown flashes of quality throughout this season, they couldn’t get over the hump against the title contenders in Minnesota.

Sparks Steal One in Indy (Sparks 89, Fever 87)

Going into this game, Los Angeles has won only five games on the year — one of them being against the Fever, where they won by 10 points on June 26th. This game was much closer as they were separated by a single point going into the 4th quarter, which would continue throughout the contest. With less than a minute remaining, the Sparks took a one point lead. The Fever would go cold at the wrong time, but they had a final look to win or tie the game with 0:03 remaining. Unfortunately, Aliyah Boston’s jump shot didn’t fall either and the Sparks escaped with a win.

For the Sparks, this was their second win against the Fever this season, which could be the jolt they need to potentially turn this season around. As we’ve seen with Dallas, a little momentum could go a long way. For the Fever, they did not showcase the same stifling defense they demonstrated the past two games and possibly underestimated their opponents. It is another example of the inconsistency that Indiana has shown this season.

Fast Break Recap: Hayes Heats Up, Cunningham Comes Up Short

Day 9 brought a return to form for many collectors, with a majority securing wins as three-pointers made and offensive rebounds took center stage. It was the kind of objective that rewarded versatility—and Tiffany Hayes delivered. The most-utilized player of the day proved why, hitting all five required threes and grabbing an offensive board to round things out. That performance earns her the title of Fast Break Star of the Day.

On the flip side, Sophie Cunningham couldn’t find her rhythm. She went 0-for-3 from deep and tallied only one offensive rebound. Among the five most-utilized players, she was the only one who failed to contribute to both categories, sealing her spot as the Fast Break Dud of the Day.

Three Staggered Games Today

Today’s schedule includes three games with interesting storylines.

  • New York gained another notch in the win column in their last game when they lost the previous two. Seattle won their last game in exciting fashion and look to continue their stride against one of the best teams in the league.

  • Las Vegas lost by almost 30 points to the Fever in their previous game. The best remedy for a poor outing is a matchup against the worst team in the league. They’re off to Connecticut to get back to .500.

  • Minnesota is playing the back end of a back-to-back and welcomes Chicago to town. The Sky have won two out of their previous three (albeit both wins coming against the Sparks) and will use this game as a barometer of their potential for this season. A win will give them confidence whereas a loss could be deflating.
