WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 4 | Day 8

Today’s Objective(s): 30 Field Goals Made & 10 Free Throws Made

Recap & Overview:

Indiana Lifts the Commissioner’s Cup, Sends a Message

All eyes were on the single-game spotlight—and Indiana delivered. After trailing 20–12 at the end of the first, the Fever clamped down defensively and outscored Minnesota 20–7 in the second. From that point forward, the tone shifted. The Fever dominated the second half, shocking the Lynx on their home floor and securing the Commissioner’s Cup and the prize money that comes with it.

Additionally and from all of us here at Tome Collective—we’re wishing Red Panda a smooth and speedy recovery from her severe wrist injury she sustained during the halftime show.

Fast Break Recap: Tight Margins, Tough Outcomes

Scoring was at a premium, and only 24% of collectors pulled off a win. The main culprit? Kayla McBride, rostered in over half of lineups, posted just 6 points, dragging down the vast majority of entries. For that, she’s your Fast Break Dud of the Day.

On the flip side, Natasha Howard led all players with 16 points, which isn’t much for a game-high. But her performance earned her Fast Break Star of the Day. When total scoring is low, every bucket matters—and Howard was likely included in every winner’s lineup.

Five Matchups Loaded with Storylines

Today’s schedule offers a bit of everything—redemption arcs, contender tests, and rookie showcases.

  • Indiana returns home to host the Aces, riding high off their Cup victory. With confidence swelling and the crowd behind them, the Fever will look to take down another W titan. But Vegas is heating up, so expect a slugfest.

  • New York can’t afford a slip—not against an L.A. team that’s struggled all season. The Liberty need this win to stay in the upper tier. Anything less would be a setback.

  • Seattle vs. Atlanta is the marquee matchup of the night, with both squads building solid playoff résumés. This one might come down to the final possession, and could carry major seeding weight by season’s end.

  • Phoenix tries to keep their win streak alive, but Dallas is surging, thanks to the continued brilliance of rookie Paige Bueckers. If the Wings pull this off, they won’t just be “trending up”—they’ll be in the thick of the playoff picture.

  • Lastly, Minnesota welcomes Washington in a bounce-back opportunity. With rookies Iriafen and Citron continuing to impress, the Mystics are no easy out. But don’t expect Napheesa Collier and the Lynx to let one loss snowball.

Plenty of options, plenty of pressure. Let’s zero in on which players can get you that all-important win and put you back in rhythm for this run. With that said, let’s dive into today’s projections.

Ugh we spoke too soon with Kayla McBride stinking up the Commissioner’s Cup game. And Napheesa didn’t have as great a game as she typically does. So, we lost. And it wasn’t that close. Now it means we’ll need to win all of the remaining four days. Day 10 looks the most dicey.
