WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 4 | Day 7

Today’s Objective(s): 60 Points Scored

Recap & Overview:

Power Rankings and Recency Bias

Recency bias often shapes power rankings, even though postseason performance outweighs regular-season standings in the long run. Still, with the playoffs weeks away, recent outcomes carry weight—especially those from the five-game slate on June 29th, which heavily influenced this week’s Power Rankings (see full list at the end of the article).

Marquee Matchup: Dream Outrun the Liberty

The spotlight game featured New York visiting Atlanta. The Dream came out swinging, grabbing a 10-point lead early and holding a double-digit cushion until the final 90 seconds. While the 90–81 final suggests a close finish, Atlanta controlled the game from wire to wire.

Las Vegas Makes a Splash with Smith Trade

In a major move, the Aces acquired NaLyssa Smith from Dallas in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick. Smith didn’t suit up for this game, but her arrival could be a turning point for a team that’s been searching for identity.

Vegas narrowly defeated Phoenix in a battle that saw multiple lead changes. With 1:23 left, Aaliyah Nye’s free throw put the Aces ahead for good. Phoenix had a final chance to tie, but Sami Whitcomb’s three rimmed out, giving Las Vegas a much-needed morale boost.

Golden State Stuns Seattle

Seattle’s recent wins over top-tier opponents had them trending upward, but Golden State completely disrupted their momentum. The Valkyries crushed the Storm by 27 points, marking a big statement win so far this season. Don’t sleep on this expansion squad—they’re heating up and look to sustain this momentum going forward.

Sparks Continue Slide Against Chicago

In the clash of lower-tier squads, Chicago edged out Los Angeles 92–85. The Sparks' downward spiral continues, and if trends hold, they’ll likely finish just above Connecticut—but won’t rise much higher.

Lynx Dominate Ahead of Cup Final

Speaking of the Sun, Minnesota welcomed Connecticut with a resounding 102–63 blowout, making Connecticut look like they never should’ve boarded the flight. The Lynx hope to carry that energy into the Commissioner’s Cup Final today, where they face the Indiana Fever.

Day 6 Fast Break Results

With Day 6 objectives centering on rebounds and points in the paint, Brionna Jones stood out from the field. Used in 78% of lineups, she delivered 16 points in the paint and 6 rebounds—accounting for nearly 50% of the paint points and 20% of the rebound threshold. Her well-rounded stat line earned her the Fast Break Star of the Day crown. Honorable mention goes to both A’ja Wilson (12 PITP & 18 REB) and Angel Reese (20 PITP & 16 REB).

Commissioner’s Cup Final Preview

Tonight’s lone game is the culmination of the Commissioner’s Cup, featuring Minnesota vs. Indiana. The Lynx are favored, but don’t count out the Fever—especially if Caitlin Clark returns from her recent absence. This game not only wraps up the Cup but also sets the tone heading into the second half of the season.

Day 6 turned out to be a win, so that’s three wins this run so far. We’ll need to win four of the remaining five to earn the mid-tier pack. With Collier, Mitchell, & McBride in the lineup, we’re feeling good about our chances. Check back in our next article to see where we land.
