WNBA Fast Break Classic | Run 1 | Day 8

Today’s Objective(s): 75 Points Scored & 10 Offensive Rebounds

Recap & Overview:

Indiana Fever Bounce Back with Gritty Win Over Atlanta Dream

Basketball is buzzing in Indiana, with both professional teams playing at a high level these days. The Fever met the new-look Atlanta Dream for the second time this season, seeking revenge for their loss just a few days prior.

Atlanta jumped out to an early nine-point lead in the first quarter, but Indiana responded, leading to multiple ties and lead changes throughout the game. Neither team could extend their lead beyond single digits, keeping the contest highly competitive. At the end of both the half and third quarter, the margin sat at just three points.

With two and a half minutes remaining, Atlanta held a four-point advantage, but the Fever staged a dramatic rally, closing the game on a 10-1 run to secure the victory on the road.

Liberty Cruise, Sky Still Searching for Answers

Meanwhile, the Chicago Sky faced off against the New York Liberty, each with different objectives—Chicago hoping to notch their first win, while New York aimed to solidify their status as defending champions.

Chicago kept it competitive in the first quarter, trailing by just five points, but then the wheels fell off. They struggled offensively, failing to score for the first four minutes of the second quarter and only scoring 10 points in the frame, allowing New York to extend their lead significantly.

With two minutes remaining before halftime, the Liberty’s lead ballooned past 20 points, and from there, it was smooth sailing. The Sky, despite their playoff aspirations, now appear to have significant work to do after facing off against two playoff-caliber opponents.

Fast Break Recap: A Brutal Two-Day Stretch

Yesterday’s Fast Break objectives required 25 assists and 2 steals, producing yet another challenging day for collectors. On Day 6, only nine collectors secured a win, and on Day 7, that number dropped to just four—a brutal stretch for those trying to stay afloat.

Natasha Cloud, utilized in 82% of lineups, delivered when it mattered as she secured eight assists, accounting for 32% of the required total, earning her the Fast Break Star of the Day.

On the other end, Jonquel Jones appeared in 57% of lineups and recorded only one assist and zero steals, earning her the Fast Break Dud of the Day. Low assist totals were a common theme, with only three players exceeding the 5.0 assist threshold required to stay on pace for a win. If you didn’t have Cloud, Clark, Ionescu, AND Hull in your lineup—plus another contributor with at least two assists—you had no shot at victory.

Looking Ahead: A’ja Wilson’s Impact & Today’s Matchups

Today should bring better results, but it won’t be a cakewalk. If you don’t have A’ja Wilson in your lineup, you may face an uphill battle as she’s expected to be a top contender for Fast Break Star of the Day.

With the WNBA’s 10-minute quarters, scoring isn’t as abundant as it is in the NBA (considering there are eight less minutes per game), and the same applies to other stat categories. That means high-caliber, stat-heavy players are essential for securing wins. Given the format, expect fewer than 50% of participants to walk away with a victory.

Tonight’s Slate: Connecticut Seeks First Win, Key Matchups Unfold

Tonight’s action includes four games, with the Connecticut Sun looking to break through against an undefeated 3-0 Minnesota Lynx team—an imposing challenge for a team still searching for its identity.

Meanwhile, the remaining matchups tip off simultaneously at 10:00 PM ET | 2:00 AM UTC:

  • Washington Mystics vs. Las Vegas Aces: A true test of whether Washington can prove themselves as playoff contenders or confirm their preseason status as bottom dwellers.

  • Golden State Valkyrie vs. Los Angeles Sparks: A pivotal matchup as the expansion Valkyrie aim to build momentum.

  • Phoenix Mercury vs. Seattle Storm: A showdown that could shake up the early standings.

With high stakes on the table, tonight should bring thrilling matchups across the league.

Today’s Objective(s):

WNBA Fast Break Day 8 requires five (5) players who will score 75.0 or more points and gather 10.0 or more offensive rebounds, which means each player will need to average 15.0 PTS & 2.0 OREB. There’s no Angel Reese today, so your offensive rebounds will need to come from a different source. There are a handful of players who have the ability to fulfill both objectives, but the tail end of the run likely means your options are more limited than they were a few days ago.

  • Little of Both: Napheesa Collier, A'ja Wilson

  • Scorers: Napheesa Collier, A'ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, Dearica Hamby, Satou Sabally

  • Offensive Glass Crashers: A'ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier, Tina Charles, Alanna Smith, Temi Fagbenle

  • Top Five (5) Players in Classic Lineups: A. Thomas (53%), A. Wilson (49%), T. Charles (31%), N. Collier (30%), J. Loyd (28%)

Upcoming Fast Break Objectives:

  • Tomorrow: 25 Field Goals Made & 8 Three Pointers Made (5.0 FGM & 1.6 3PM)

  • Objectives Frequency (after today):

    • 2x: BLK

    • 1x: FGM, PITP, 3PM, REB

Considerations:

  • Five (5) teams have the most games remaining this run (3)

  • Indiana has the fewest games remaining this run (1)

  • Indiana’s last game of this run is on Day 9

  • There are no games scheduled on May 26th

  • Day 9 only has two (2) games scheduled

  • Day 8, 10 & 11 have at least 4 games scheduled (Day 11 has 5 games)

Tome Collective’s WNBA Fast Break Line-Up (Commons Only Challenge):

Many Fast Break participants do not have an extensive collection of rare or legendary moments, so they are limited to single use commons. Even with a limited lineup, participants have found a way to reach the maximum rewards. Follow along as the Tome Collective account participates in Fast Break without using any player more than once - in both our success and failures.

Build-out in process, but is going slower than expected due to data irregularities. It’ll be ready by at least the next run at this rate. Here’s our lineup today though. We fell short yesterday again (as did the majority of Fast Breakers) and today’s deficit will likely be offensive rebounds unless we see some big performances from A’ja and Napheesa.
