Luka Drops 44, Kawhi Wins at the Buzzer: Emirates Cup Opens with Fireworks on Halloween Night

NBA Recap: October 31, 2025

The 2025 Emirates NBA Cup tipped off October 31 with a full slate of group-stage matchups and a handful of standout performances that set the tone for the tournament. Luka Doncic lit up Memphis for 44 points in a statement win for the Lakers, showcasing his full offensive arsenal and reminding everyone why LA is a Cup favorite.

Kawhi Leonard stole the show late, hitting a game-winning jumper at the buzzer to lift the Clippers past the Suns. He finished with 31 points and 8 rebounds, while Devin Booker countered with 33 in a losing effort. Jaylen Brown poured in 32 for Boston as the Celtics held off a furious Sixers rally, and Josh Giddey posted a near triple-double—32 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists—to lead the Bulls past the Knicks 135–125.

The biggest upset of the night came in Portland, where the Trail Blazers stunned the Nuggets 109–107 behind 23 points from Deni Avdija and a balanced team effort. Denver now faces a tough road in West Group C, with matchups against Houston, Golden State, and San Antonio still ahead.

Toronto also pulled off a surprise win over Cleveland in East Group B, shaking up early bracket predictions. With custom courts, bold gradients, and Cup energy in full swing, the Halloween slate delivered drama, dominance, and a few early shakeups.

With Philadelphia’s loss, only three undefeated teams remain: Oklahoma City, San Antonio, and (surprisingly) Chicago.

NBA Fast Break Results: Day 11

We were back to our winning ways yesterday as 57% of Fast Breakers earned a win. Between points in the paint and blocks, the latter was the one that was the make or break objective. Zubac was the player with the highest utilization (62%) and delivered 10 points in the paint and 3 blocks, which earned him the Fast Break Stud of the Day award.

Walker Kesslier, however, was the second most utilized player (56%), yet could only muster four points in the paint to go with his donut in the blocks column even though he’s averaging 1.8 on the year, which ranks 10th overall. Of course he picked the day where collectors needed him to accumulate some blocks, but he did not. With his lackluster performance, he earned the Fast Break Dud of the Day.

  • Denver, Los Angeles Clippers, & Portland have no games remaining this run

  • The Emirates NBA Cup group stage is live

Statistical Approach:

Top players in assists & steals according to Rotowire & NBA.com, which is available in the table(s) below. Overall rank is based on daily projections, last 10 (when available), and season averages, which is stack ranked amongst peers for each objective. When there is a single objective, the three data points are still used to stack rank the players vs. ranking solely on projections. For tome+ members, all active player stats are available in the provided data file. Omission of certain players would be based on injuries at the time of data pull.

Witty’s Fast Break Challenge:

In NBA Fast Break, how often you can use a player depends on the value of their moments—measured by average sale price. That system can put newer and/or smaller collectors at a disadvantage, limiting their ability to compete. This segment is designed to level the playing field, giving resourceful collectors a shot at rewards and proving that smart strategy can still win, even without a stacked collection.
