NBA Fast Break Classic | Run 8 | Day 9
Lakers Light Up Washington, Orlando Outpaces Toronto, Detroit Wins a Shootout in the Bay
NBA Recap: January 30, 2026
The Lakers opened with the night’s loudest statement, dropping 142 to Washington’s 111. Luka, Ayton, and LeBron scored 85 of the Lakers’ points and the Wizards could not recover from a 14-point first quarter and 29-point first half deficit.
Orlando followed with a 130–120 win over Toronto, a high‑tempo matchup where the Magic’s shot‑making and transition game kept the Raptors chasing. All five starters on both teams scored in double digits including Desmond Bane’s 32 on 73% accuracy and Brandon Ingram’s 35 on 57% from the field, but the former led his team to a big win on home court.
Boston was without Jaylen Brown, but they avoided the trap game and handed Sacramento its 38th loss on the season that is quickly becoming a lost cause. The Kings had the lowest scoring output on the day as they fell 93-112 in front of a raucous Celtics crowd behind Payton Pritchard’s 29 points.
New York delivered the night’s largest margin of victory as they took care of the Trail Blazers at Madison Square Garden 127-97. Karl-Anthony Towns was a man on a mission on the glass as he gathered 20 rebounds to go with his 14 points. Anunoby, Hart, and Brunson all chipped in on the scoring front as each crested 20 points apiece.
New Orleans protected home court with a 114–106 win over Memphis, which was only their 13th on the season. The Grizzlies held a slim lead coming out of the half, only to be outscored by twenty points in the third quarter, which proved to be the difference. Phoenix kept rolling with a big 126–113 win over Cleveland, even though they were without Booker, who is their primary scoring option. Dillon Brooks filled the void and led the way on the scoring front, but he was helped by six other Suns players who scored in double digits.
Denver welcomed back their MVP from a prolonged injury and he delivered in a big way in only 24 minutes of floor time as he scored 31 points, gathered 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. His contributions led to a win against a competitive Clippers team. Utah was not as fortunate as they took a 99–109 loss at the hands of Brooklyn on their home court and their fifth straight. There will be no reprieve in they’ll head off on a five-game road trip.
Lastly, Detroit got back on track as they closed the slate with a 131–124 win over Golden State, a shootout that turned into one of the Pistons’ most impressive offensive performances of the season. The Warriors kept pace early, but Detroit’s scoring depth and late‑game poise carried them across the finish line.
Fast Break Recap: Day 8
Yesterday follows a trend we typically see toward the end of a run. Classic saw only 46% earn a win compared to 57% in Pro and 82% in Historic.
Of the top five, only Steph Curry had more than the minimum required as he went 4 of 10 from outside, which earned him the Fast Break Stud of the Day. On the other hand, Trey Murphy had an awful day from outside as he put up a donut out of seven attempts. His futile attempt from three point land earned him the Fast Break Dud of the Day award.
