NBA Fast Break Classic | Run 8 | Day 7
Cavs Roll, Bulls Stumble, Orlando Outguns Miami
NBA Recap: January 28, 2026
Chicago and Indiana opened the night with one of the slate’s tighter finishes, but the Pacers stole a win on the road as they outscored the Bulls by 12 points in the fourth quarter.
Cleveland followed with one of the night’s most decisive results, dismantling the Lakers 129–99. The Cavs controlled every phase — pace, physicality, shot‑making — and turned the second half into a showcase including 42 points in the 3rd quarter. Doncic chipped in 29 points in limited minutes as he sustained a short-term injury, but it wasn’t enough to close the 30 point gap.
New York delivered a statement win on the road, beating Toronto 119–92 behind a defensive clampdown that set the tone early. The Knicks dictated tempo, controlled the glass, and held the Raptors to one of their coldest shooting nights of the month as they only made 38% of their attempts.
Orlando and Miami produced the night’s most entertaining shootout, with the Magic winning 133–124 in a game where both offenses ran hot. Orlando’s forty point 3rd quarter was the difference and matched Miami’s 41 point second quarter. Atlanta kept its momentum with a 117–106 win over Boston, a performance built on balance and control. The Hawks jumped out to a 20-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back, which delivered a painful loss at home.
Charlotte followed with a 112–97 win over Memphis, a steady outing where the Hornets’ defense set the tone and their offense found rhythm in the middle quarters. Memphis made small pushes, but Charlotte’s control never wavered. Minnesota logged one of the night’s cleanest road wins, beating Dallas 118–105 behind pace, physicality, and a fourth quarter that broke the game open. The Wolves’ balance carried the night, and Dallas never found a counter.
Golden State delivered the biggest offensive eruption of the slate, dropping 140 on Utah in a 140–124 win that turned into a track meet. The Warriors pushed pace relentlessly, shot the lights out, and turned the second half into a blur. Utah kept up early, but Golden State’s rhythm never dipped.
San Antonio closed the night with a 111–99 win over Houston, a composed performance where the Spurs controlled the middle quarters and leaned on defensive discipline to keep the Rockets at arm’s length. Wemby scored 28, grabbed 16 rebounds, and accumulated 5 blocks along the way.
Fast Break Recap: Day 6
It was a brutal day for Fast Break lineups and none of the three iterations crested 30% for win rate. Pro had the worst day as no lineups achieved the assist & steals goal, but Classic wasn’t too far ahead as only 17% earned a win. Historic even had a rough day as only 29% walked away happy.
In Classic, Jalen Brunson was the most utilized player (72%) and delivered a back-breaking 13 points on the day. With his performance, he earned the Fast Break Dud of the Day. On the other end of the spectrum, Luka Doncic continued his steady play as he scored 29 points, which was enough to earn him the Fast Break Stud of the Day award.
