NBA Fast Break Classic | Run 8 | Day 2
Cavs Hold Off Sacramento, Boston Escapes 2OT, Indiana Stuns OKC
NBA Recap: January 23, 2026
Houston opened with a 111–104 win over Detroit, a composed road performance led by Kevin Durant’s 32 points and Jabari Smith Jr.’s double-double. A big win for the Rockets against the Eastern Conference leaders. Atlanta followed with a 110–103 win over Phoenix, a game defined by the Hawks’ defensive pressure and timely shot‑making. Jalen Johnson was an assist shy of another triple-double, but he scored 23 points and gathered 18 rebounds in a big win for the Hawks.
Boston and Brooklyn delivered one of the night’s most entertaining shootouts, with the Celtics escaping 130–126 in double overtime. Boston’s offense hummed from the jump, but the Nets kept it close throughout. The Celtics’ late‑game poise carried them across the finish line and escaped an embarrassing loss.
Cleveland protected home court with a 123–118 win over Sacramento, a back‑and‑forth matchup where the Cavs’ physicality and half‑court execution proved decisive. Sacramento made multiple pushes, but Cleveland’s closing stretch — built on stops and steady scoring — sealed it. New Orleans and Memphis produced the night’s highest‑scoring duel, with the Pelicans winning 133–127 behind a relentless offensive rhythm and optional defense. Memphis kept pace for most of the night, but New Orleans’ shot‑making in the final minutes created just enough separation.
Indiana delivered one of the upset of the new year, beating Oklahoma City 117–114 in a tight, composed road win. The Pacers controlled tempo, hit timely threes, and closed with the kind of discipline that travels. Although this may not turn around Indiana’s season, there’s solace in knowing they helped him preserving Golden State’s win record.
Denver edged Milwaukee 102–100 in one of the night’s closest finishes. The Nuggets survived a frantic final quarter as the Buckets trimmed a double-digit lead and almost stole one at home. Giannis scored 22 points, but 14 of them were from the foul line. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to bring home a winner.
Toronto wrapped the slate with a 110–98 win over Portland, a steady performance where the Raptors dictated pace, controlled the glass, and never let the Blazers find rhythm. Toronto’s balance carried the night, and the lead held from the middle quarters onward.

Giannis, on the other hand, had an abysmal 4 of 8 from the field, which earned him the not-so-coveted Fast Break Dud of the Day.
